Who are we ?

We are the EternalArchive.

We are a small group of anons that tries to archive as much media, information and data as possible before the bomb called "TPP" hits the internet.

Once this happens we are planning to move our movement to the i2p network where we want to create a new community and share the files we saved.

What is this board for ?

This board was created after multiple /tech/ and /a/ threads startet to create a movement dedicated to archiving and everything that goes with it.

This board was created to be a central for technical talk, organization and shitposting.

I made a channel in the i2p IRC, we should migrate there.

>HOW DO I IRC WITH i2p????

Start your IRC client (e.g. Chatzilla, Pidgin, XChat) and connect to the server at 127.0.0.1 port 6668. You do not need to configure a proxy in your IRC client; I2P provides you with a local IRC tunnel (configured in your IRC client as an IRC server or remote host). Your local I2P IRC tunnel on localhost:6668 will direct you to one of two IRC servers hosted on I2P by Postman and Badger, but neither you nor they know where the other is, and your mom, ISP or government is unable to intercept your conversation!

Then you just join #EternalArchive

It's not that it will make it illegal, it will make it non-legal.

Basically, the GPL will be non-applicable and companies will be able to leech off open source, contributing nothing in return by making their derivatives closed source.

It is currently unknown if this applies to all software or just between countries.

Personally I'm downloading software that's likely to get nuked by the TPP for causing 'profit loss'. Emulators like pcsxr, and tools like libdvdcss.

DEFDIST (Defense Distributed) is a nonprofit digital publisher and 3D Printing R&D firm that has developed some of the world's first and most popular 3D Printable gun components. In May 2013, the US State Department ordered DEFDIST to remove their DEFCAD files, which were blueprints for 3D printable gun parts. Regardless of their blatant attempt to censor these files, mirrors of these files became available at The Pirate Bay and were impossible for the US government to shut down. The rest is history … the 3D printing projects and tests expanded, and went way beyond mere firearm parts to a full-blown war trove.

Examples of this are Taimanin Asagi, the Rance series and the BISHOP titles.

I was wondering what anons though: should we divide the teams by era, like with anime/manga? Or should we do so by studio (i.e. Lilith, Lune, Key, etc.)?

Ok anons, we've got a board with willing anons and a whole load of archived shit.

Now we begin to share through i2p.

In order to reduce load on i2p network and make it more feasible to torrent, I suggest we select a compression software to use across all our torrents.

It would suck balls if we had to fumble between multiple compression softwares in order to torrent properly so let's just select ONE, popularize it, and stick with it.

To give you guys a glimpse of what extreme compression software is capable of, some fags managed to compress 395GB into 667MB.

Source: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/archive/index.php?t-242212.html

Ok, here's some resources to get us started comparing some compressors:

http://www.maximumcompression.com/data/summary_mf.php

http://www.squeezechart.com/index.html - Use the excel spreadsheet

http://compressionratings.com/ratings.html

What I've found interesting so far:

MCM 0.83 - Scored highest free (as in freedom) compressor in squeeze chart tests

www.libbsc.com with www.github.com/vaibhav-y/bsc-gui - Very fast compression with NVIDIA GPU acceleration, nice compression rates, has easy to use GUI.

What we're looking for:

* Must be free (as in freedom)

* Very good compression rate

* GUI

* Good decoding times (generally decoding times are always shorter than encoding)

* Result must be bitwise identical

* Shell integration? (optional, just ricing)

I though that the

>- Must be fully free, not partially free

might confuse some anons, with some proprietary programs being free* and all.

778935 No.652

Using one all purpose program to compress everything is a shit idea. It will make migration to another much harder if the necessity arises. And more importantly, the compression rates of images and audio in OP's pic are subpar to actual, proper codecs.

What we need is to decide on the codecs we will use. If packing multiple files into one is needed the good old zip will do just fine, the overhead is negligible. Same goes for encryption - just wrap the whole thing into a encrypted container.

The volume of data also maters, not just compression rates, an uncompressed text of a book is about the same size as a jpeg scan of its cover, which is as big as two seconds of high quality audio.

We hold irl filesharing meetups

so i thought we could do some organising in this thread if thats okay with you guys? As i said im not the best when it comes to hardcore programming/tech shit so i thought i could help contribute in a more physical way. Anyone else on board with this? TPP scares the shit out of me, but with irl meetups we'd be almost untouchable as long as we stay hidden

The Story: with TPP and other recent events, the loss of much material is at stake. The fall of megaupload, as well as other hosting services, just gives this precedent.

What do? We will assemble various teams to archive all the shit possible, from every corner possible, and preserve it for future use.

We must essentially find and save everything we can. Each team will be tasked with a specific era dating back to the 1970s - preferably subbed, and in high quality (i.e. BDrips, for instance) but if there's no other alternative, what is around will suffice.

>Team 0079: 70s anime - original Gundam, the Mazinger series, Ginguiser, Aim for the Ace, are just the famous examples of what was around that era.

>Team 0083. your task is to find all the anime that you can find, from 1980 to 1985. Macross, VOTOMS, Urusei Yatsura, Dougram and Ideon are only the tip of the iceberg.

>Team 0087: your task is to dig out every anime from 1986 to 1989. Good examples are Bubblegum Crisis, Gundam ZZ, and Gall Force, to name a few.

>Team 0093: your task is to hoard all the anime from the early 90s era, which would cover 1990-1995. Some few examples would be Tekkaman Blade, Victory Gundam, Sailor Moon, and Cyber Formula.

>Team 0096: your tast is to cover what's left of the 90s. You saw a lot of this shit on Toonami, so it shouldn't be hard to find any of these.

>Team 00: you will hunt down every early 2000s (i.e. 2000-2005) anime you can find. Unlike the previous eras, these should not only be easier to find, but also the most numerous.

>Team OOO: as above, these should be the easiest and most plentiful.

In addition, I was thinking that there should be a team devoted to anything pre-70s. Since much of the material from the 60s and prior isn't exactly available (masters are lost, etc.), then there probably won't be much to work with to begin with.

Forgive me if my question is stupid. In one of the stickies there is a pastebin of "archived anime."

How do we "update" the list? I, as many anons do, already have a bunch of series on hand that aren't listed in the pastebin. Suppose I have series X that isn't listed, would I have to physically upload it to the postmans eep page for it to be considered archived? Is simply having it backed up on a hoarding hard drive considered sufficient?

Secondly, suppose I "archive" a new series. Is there a way to update the pastebin myself? Do I IRC/post/message someone with the series info so they update the list?

Yes that helps, thank you.

Any word on how/where we communicate our inventories to to prevent a gross duplication of effort? I understand redundancy is a good thing to a large extent but without a better way to track what's handled and what's not we're not getting far

I completely forgot about those, thanks for remembering anon.

>that would be like preaching to the choir.

It wouldn't help them as much as it would help us but there might be some anons still downloading torrents or people who know their shit there. Might be good telling them about it.
