~HerrHinkler
Welcome to the Archive
Who are we ?
We are the EternalArchive.
We are a small group of anons that tries to archive as much media, information and data as possible before the bomb called "TPP" hits the internet.
Once this happens we are planning to move our movement to the i2p network where we want to create a new community and share the files we saved.
What is this board for ?
This board was created after multiple /tech/ and /a/ threads startet to create a movement dedicated to archiving and everything that goes with it.
This board was created to be a central for technical talk, organization and shitposting.

Anime Archiving Coordination
The Story: with TPP and other recent events, the loss of much material is at stake. The fall of megaupload, as well as other hosting services, just gives this precedent.
What do? We will assemble various teams to archive all the shit possible, from every corner possible, and preserve it for future use.
We must essentially find and save everything we can. Each team will be tasked with a specific era dating back to the 1970s - preferably subbed, and in high quality (i.e. BDrips, for instance) but if there's no other alternative, what is around will suffice.
>Team 0079: 70s anime - original Gundam, the Mazinger series, Ginguiser, Aim for the Ace, are just the famous examples of what was around that era.
>Team 0083. your task is to find all the anime that you can find, from 1980 to 1985. Macross, VOTOMS, Urusei Yatsura, Dougram and Ideon are only the tip of the iceberg.
>Team 0087: your task is to dig out every anime from 1986 to 1989. Good examples are Bubblegum Crisis, Gundam ZZ, and Gall Force, to name a few.
>Team 0093: your task is to hoard all the anime from the early 90s era, which would cover 1990-1995. Some few examples would be Tekkaman Blade, Victory Gundam, Sailor Moon, and Cyber Formula.
>Team 0096: your tast is to cover what's left of the 90s. You saw a lot of this shit on Toonami, so it shouldn't be hard to find any of these.
>Team 00: you will hunt down every early 2000s (i.e. 2000-2005) anime you can find. Unlike the previous eras, these should not only be easier to find, but also the most numerous.
>Team OOO: as above, these should be the easiest and most plentiful.
In addition, I was thinking that there should be a team devoted to anything pre-70s. Since much of the material from the 60s and prior isn't exactly available (masters are lost, etc.), then there probably won't be much to work with to begin with.
Rasslin.
I'm gonna download as much as I can from the WWE Network, specifically the older stuff, pre Attitude, maybe to before Attitude went completely retarded.
Given that I live in the sticks, and my connection isn't the greatest, I download at ~1200 to ~1800 kbps. Not high, I know, but the stuff was transferred from old low quality film stock, so it's about as good as you're gonna get any ways.
Would there be any interest for this in /eternalarchive/?
Researcher Shares Millions of Science Papers Free Online to Spread Knowledge
A researcher in Russia has made more than 48 million journal articles - almost every single peer-reviewed paper every published - freely available online. And she's now refusing to shut the site down, despite a court injunction and a lawsuit from Elsevier, one of the world's biggest publishers.
For those of you who aren't already using it, the site in question is Sci-Hub, and it's sort of like a Pirate Bay of the science world. It was established in 2011 by neuroscientist Alexandra Elbakyan, who was frustrated that she couldn't afford to access the articles needed for her research, and it's since gone viral, with hundreds of thousands of papers being downloaded daily. But at the end of last year, the site was ordered to be taken down by a New York district court - a ruling that Elbakyan has decided to fight, triggering a debate over who really owns science.
"Payment of $32 is just insane when you need to skim or read tens or hundreds of these papers to do research. I obtained these papers by pirating them," Elbakyan told Torrent Freak last year. "Everyone should have access to knowledge regardless of their income or affiliation. And that’s absolutely legal."
journal subscriptions have become so expensive that leading universities such as Harvard and Cornell have admitted they can no longer afford them. Researchers have also taken a stand - with 15,000 scientists vowing to boycott publisher Elsevier in part for its excessive paywall fees.
"They feel pressured to do this," Elbakyan wrote in an open letter to the New York judge last year. "If a researcher wants to be recognised, make a career - he or she needs to have publications in such journals."
The site works in two stages. First of all when you search for a paper, Sci-Hub tries to immediately download it from fellow pirate database LibGen. If that doesn't work, Sci-Hub is able to bypass journal paywalls thanks to a range of access keys that have been donated by anonymous academics (thank you, science spies).
This means that Sci-Hub can instantly access any paper published by the big guys, including JSTOR, Springer, Sage, and Elsevier, and deliver it to you for free within seconds. The site then automatically sends a copy of that paper to LibGen, to help share the love.
Last year, a New York court delivered an injunction against Sci-Hub, making its domain unavailable (something Elbakyan dodged by switching to a new location), and the site is also being sued by Elsevier for "irreparable harm" - a case that experts are predicting will win Elsevier around $750 to $150,000 for each pirated article. Even at the lowest estimations, that would quickly add up to millions in damages.
But Elbakyan is not only standing her ground, she's come out swinging, claiming that it's Elsevier that have the illegal business model.
"I think Elsevier’s business model is itself illegal," she told Torrent Freak, referring to article 27 of the UN Declaration of Human Rights, which states that "everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits".
She also explains that the academic publishing situation is different to the music or film industry, where pirating is ripping off creators. "All papers on their website are written by researchers, and researchers do not receive money from what Elsevier collects. That is very different from the music or movie industry, where creators receive money from each copy sold," she said.
Elbakyan hopes that the lawsuit will set a precedent, and make it very clear to the scientific world either way who owns their ideas.
"If Elsevier manages to shut down our projects or force them into the darknet, that will demonstrate an important idea: that the public does not have the right to knowledge," she said. "We have to win over Elsevier and other publishers and show that what these commercial companies are doing is fundamentally wrong."
To be fair, Elbakyan is somewhat protected by the fact that she's in Russia and doesn't have any US assets, so even if Elsevier wins their lawsuit, it's going to be pretty hard for them to get the money.

FBI-DHS LEAKED EMPLOYEE DIRECTORY (Part 1) yessssss!!!!!!!
Data Compression Software ITT
Ok anons, we've got a board with willing anons and a whole load of archived shit.
Now we begin to share through i2p.
In order to reduce load on i2p network and make it more feasible to torrent, I suggest we select a compression software to use across all our torrents.
It would suck balls if we had to fumble between multiple compression softwares in order to torrent properly so let's just select ONE, popularize it, and stick with it.
To give you guys a glimpse of what extreme compression software is capable of, some fags managed to compress 395GB into 667MB.
Source: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/archive/index.php?t-242212.html
Ok, here's some resources to get us started comparing some compressors:
http://www.maximumcompression.com/data/summary_mf.php
http://www.squeezechart.com/index.html - Use the excel spreadsheet
http://compressionratings.com/ratings.html
What I've found interesting so far:
MCM 0.83 - Scored highest free (as in freedom) compressor in squeeze chart tests
www.libbsc.com with www.github.com/vaibhav-y/bsc-gui - Very fast compression with NVIDIA GPU acceleration, nice compression rates, has easy to use GUI.
What we're looking for:
* Must be free (as in freedom)
* Very good compression rate
* GUI
* Good decoding times (generally decoding times are always shorter than encoding)
* Result must be bitwise identical
* Shell integration? (optional, just ricing)
To me it seems libbsc fits all these roles (except shell integration), plus it has NVIDIA GPU acceleration (no other compressor does), sorry AMD fags, maybe give in like a good goy next time?
No PAQ8 or WinRK fags, that shit is slower than practical
Data compression thread GO!
i2p TextBoard
>Why we need TextBoard?
If TPP will hit us hard, I think alternative/backup chan would be must.
>Why TextBoard?
Well, you don't want to see CP, and it's easier to watch over it.
So, yeah. We talked in irc for a while about making i2p textboard script. Simple as fuck, simple design (not eyecancer).
Who has some ideas, what programming language should we use (not PHP) and database of course.
One of the ideas was using Python with Flask microframework. But I want to hear other suggestions.
Hentai Archiving
This thread is dedicated to the archival of VNs, eroge, nukige and the like.
Examples of this are Taimanin Asagi, the Rance series and the BISHOP titles.
Some links to essential material:
Taimanin Asagi and Rance

And to start off with classics, here is the Sogna collections, rescued from the (dead again) Sogna Digital Museum:

Other games

I was wondering what anons though: should we divide the teams by era, like with anime/manga? Or should we do so by studio (i.e. Lilith, Lune, Key, etc.)?
IPFS
>What is IPFS?
It's basically BitTorrent on steroids.
>why would one use it
* Distributed, decentralized filesharing (for now - ipfs is merely the communication protocol, and additional applications can exist on top of it).
* You can have a mutable address (i.e. always points to the latest version of a site), or a static address (points to a specific file). Yes, you can host sites over IPFS.
* Peers are found fast for new downloads since the entire content is basically one huge torrent.
* Already very fast, fast enough to stream 720p videos in realtime. Uploading and publishing are also very fast.
localhost:5001/webui gives you a web interface to upload files by drag'n'drop and explore the files you are seeding ("pinned files").
The command line functions are as follows:
>how to upload a single file
$ ipfs add ./$file
Access it at localhost:8080/ipfs/$outputted-hash
>how to upload a dir
$ ipfs add -r ./$dir
Access it at localhost:8080/ipfs/$last-outputted-hash
>how to make the thing mutable
$ ipfs name publish ./$file-or-dir-hash
Access it at localhost:8080/ipns/$output-hash-aka-peerid (it's ipNs not ipFs)
To update, publish another hash and it will be available at the same IPNS address.
To give an easier name to an ipns or ipfs site, add a TXT record to your DNS with value "dnslink=/ipfs/hash" (or ipns if it's an ipns hash).
You might want to use ipfs add -w <hash> for single files, it wraps the file in a directory which allows you to link through the directory with a readable filename for the file proper.
For publishing, the -t option, which defaults to 24h, decides how long the ipns name remains valid. You might want to use -t 99999h systematically.
>gateways (how to access IPFS if you don't have it installed)
gateway.ipfs.io or gateway.glop.me
>talk about ipfs by the dev
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUVmypx9HGI
Note that IPFS does not do anonymity by default, but it is designed to be compatible with tor, i2p, or any other technology that can provide anonymity. This has the advantage of significantly lowering the attack surface since you already have a large volume of people in i2p and tor that make 51% attacks hardly possible. i2p and tor are also highly audited as opposed to a new anonymity solution.
All communications with ipfs are encrypted, however.
here's the ipfs site of some anon on /tech/, it contains links and more information:

OPERATING SYSTEM BACKUPS! ANYONE INTERESTED?
I have decided to start a short thread and share some of the Operating System backups I have backed up over the last year. If anyone wants to add some more links, please feel free to do so! The more operating systems we backup and share with each other, the better off we are when the TPP hits the fan!

I2Pd
https://github.com/PurpleI2P/i2pd
Have any of you heard of I2Pd? It's an I2P implementation that was written in C++, not Java. Many here seem to distrust Java because it requires you to download the JRE, which is only available as a proprietary binary for those still on windows; in addition, it has a myriad of security issues. It doesn't come with a built-in torrent client, but it seems interesting and very helpful to people who don't trust Java.
Can We Talk Back-Ups?
Hoarding is good and all, but it only takes one hard drive failure for it to all be in vain.
Right now I have 4 terabytes worth of data spread out among multiple hard drives. What would be the best method to back this up? The only decent means of back-ups that I've found are either cloud storage or external hard drives. Building a (multi-terabyte) server seems really expensive, and paying other providers online is much, much more expensive (most providers cap out at like 250gb of storage for hundreds of dollars a year, fuck that). I've found some 3-5 terabyte external drives on Amazon for a good price (fuck they'll probably be even cheaper once black friday/cyber monday rolls around), but I want to know what you guys think.
BBS
Have anyone else here thought about reviving BBSing? You see, this method of communication would work great on low-bandwidth networks, like meshnets. There's BBS-software that is still developed, pic related is from the official BBS of x/84. Big files, like the ones y'all are archiving, could be transmitted through sneakernet, or we could revive the concept of copyparties.
RPG and Tabletop Archiving
Repostan from /v/ & /tg/
Additional idea from a fa/tg/uy.
Consider grabbing some PDFs of various RPG systems. Since all you need is other people and some dice, most of these can be played entirely online.
Getting together with some people on Google Hangouts to play MAID RPG or even just some D&D isn't a bad way to ride out the TPPocalypse

Irc2P IRC Network
I made a channel in the i2p IRC, we should migrate there.
>HOW DO I IRC WITH i2p????
Start your IRC client (e.g. Chatzilla, Pidgin, XChat) and connect to the server at 127.0.0.1 port 6668. You do not need to configure a proxy in your IRC client; I2P provides you with a local IRC tunnel (configured in your IRC client as an IRC server or remote host). Your local I2P IRC tunnel on localhost:6668 will direct you to one of two IRC servers hosted on I2P by Postman and Badger, but neither you nor they know where the other is, and your mom, ISP or government is unable to intercept your conversation!
Then you just join #EternalArchive
PD: The old irc operator can get op if he wants
Music Thread
A bunch of anons were talking about how they wanted to begin archiving music. I guess we can discuss that here.
>What format should it be?
FLAC or 320 MP3 I assume. FLAC is preferred.
>What can I do to help?
Find a best of/top 100/etc and download those albums.
Post ITT the ones that you have so we don't get too many duplicates.
>Where can I upload it?
http://tracker2.postman.i2p and/or http://diftracker.i2p
The first is preferred, and then you can post the link to the torrents ITT if you wish, so we can get a few seeders.
In a little bit I'll create a community pastebin type thing where we can all add the albums that we've downloaded and uploaded.
Pic related is part of my music library, most of it is in FLAC or 320, so I'll start going through that and making torrents.
Of course, any other ideas post them ITT.
Torrents Central
I am looking for any torrent of anything!
I recently had a problem with my storage container and suffice to say I need all the torrents I can get to make up for it.
I2P torrents are welcome if only in the spirit of a torrent thread, though I won't be downloading them any time soon. I would appreciate if the bulk were in clearnet torrents.
The picture is only semi-related.
MANDATORY INFO FOR ALL ARCHIVERS: SECURE STORAGE AND SHELF-LIFE
SECURE STORAGE AND SHELF-LIFE: https://archive.is/vgIQy
Let me introduce myself briefly before I present this key information. I am a professional archiver and a librarian. I have archived mass amounts of data/media for over 8+ years now. I have dealt with and overcome a vast amount of problems in my past, including: computer crashes, witnessing data degradation of certain storage platforms including (VHS/Betamax/floppies/cassettes/CDs/DVDs/flashdrives/HHD/etc.), malicious hacking attacks against my network(s), to even simply misplacing my storage from time to time.
There are two things every archiver must know about, because this is key for long-term storage, the defense and integrity of your storage. SECURE STORAGE AND SHELF-LIFE.
The good news is external (offline) storage platforms have become more robust over the years, the bad news is even CDs & DVDs will inevitably face natural data degradation at some point in the future. Although widely debated, the average DVD-R (4.7GB) has a shelf-life of up to 25 years max. After 25 years, natural data degradation will begin to occur to the point the DVD-R will become unreadable and useless. CDs also fall into similar expectancy. Mind you, this is if you take proper care of the optical discs such as simply leaving them in binders and rarely using them. Data degradation is also natural due to aging, not just physical neglect.
Optical discs tend to be more robust than most magnetic mediums of storage, and so are flashdrives, but even flashdrives WILL NOT last forever! Flashdrive shelf-life can vary depending on the manufactures making the EPROM hardware.
Now you may ask: how do we deal with these inevitable problems with long-term storage? There currently are several ways to mitigate these threats! Here are my recommendations:
(1) For every computer you have, you should have a physical bootable ISO backup of the operating system. I recommend having two computers, one with online access and one air-gap (offline).
(2) After you get done downloading an archive of media online, you should make a physical backup of it: be it a flashdrive, a DVD-rom, a CD-rom, or on an external harddrive and after that media or data is backed up, air-gap it (disconnect it) from the online computer system.
(3) Place all physical backups into a Faraday Cage. Make sure DVDs and CDs are protected inside binders BEFORE placing them into a Faraday Cage. Make sure you put your flashdrives or external harddrives in a bag or a cigar box BEFORE placing them into a Faraday Cage. A Farady Cage will protect the storage mediums from two threats: one, collecting dust and two, (God-forbid) if there was an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack from a foreign enemy.
Faraday Cages must be isolated from the storage on the inside. You cannot have an effective Faraday Cage if the storage mediums are physically touching the inner rims, as during an EMP it acts as a conductive barrier. Any electronic touching that conductive barrier would be fried.
Here is an online video tutorial of DIY Faraday caging:

download mp4 » http://www3.zippyshare.com/v/1mXAmXtR/file.html
(4) Last, but not least, you must consider stocking up on BLANK store mediums (unused and keep in the case). Flashdrives, external harddrives and optical discs! Why? One example: Once you rip a DVD, you will have around 20 to 25 years before natural data degradation occurs, so you will have to remember to re-backup those old DVD and to do that you will need a good storage of blanks.
Flashdrives and even external harddrives are the same, and you should be ready to re-backup any old storage before data degradation occurs. Remember that you will only have to do this a few times in your lifetime so its not a big deal.
Here is a new technology that you might want to look into, fellow archivers: http://www.mdisc.com/
These discs are built to last for a long, long time! However they are not cheap.
Game Guides
I was downloading ROM archives when I realized that there are a lot of games that are either difficult to finish (Castlevania 2) or have multiple possible endings (Chrono Trigger) that are much better when you have a game guide for them. You're not going to know everything about every game you come across, and sometimes it's useful to consult a guide.
So the first step here would be figuring out the best way to go about archiving guides from places like GameFAQs. I tried a standard archive, but the robots.txt told me to fuck off, so if there's any possible batch download solution, that would be preferable to having to download it all by hand

Cyberpunk rebellion meetups
Hi so im from /b/ and pretty much a retard when it comes to tech but i know my way around a tor like network if it comes to it. After recently hearing about TPP and this movement of yours I spent some time lurking in the sticky on /b/ where one anon came up with a fairly valid idea
We hold irl filesharing meetups
so i thought we could do some organising in this thread if thats okay with you guys? As i said im not the best when it comes to hardcore programming/tech shit so i thought i could help contribute in a more physical way. Anyone else on board with this? TPP scares the shit out of me, but with irl meetups we'd be almost untouchable as long as we stay hidden
Best Practices
I posted this in the Anime thread, but figured I'd make a thread just for this.
Let's talk about quality.
A lot of people are probably going to be downloading poor quality stuff. If you're downloading TV shows try to find WEB.DL torrents because they don't have logos/watermarks in the video (you know, the Fox or A&E logo in the bottom right corner). If you're downloading Anime choose good quality fansub groups, try to find fansubs that include both English and Japanese subtitles. If the anime has been dubbed try to find a Dual Audio version. If vp9 or h265 is available go for that, it has almost half the file size for the same quality as vp8/h264. If all you're about to download Xvid don't. Try to look for vp8/h264. If the files are .mp4 try to find .mkv instead. If you're downloading music try to find FLAC files. You can always convert them to mp3, ogg, or vorbis later. If you download things via torrent then include the .torrent file or the magnet link in a textfile in the root directory of the Download so people can verify the files themselves if they're unsure. If people rename files we should come up with a way to preserve the original filenames in a text file or something so if someone has a corrupt file they can search for it online and fix the corrupt file.
We should also have everyone create checksums of their files so we can make sure they aren't corrupt.
What happens when the people responsible for archiving TV show X or Movie Y is never heard from again or their hard drive dies and they weren't keeping proper backups or if they have defective memory or a defective hard drive and are uploading things with defective frames or corrupt subtitles or whatever?
How do we deal with malicious files? There's surely doing to be some autist uploading infected PDFs or a PNG that exploits the libpng bug.
When people archive dank memes how do make sure people have the original, not some that was uploaded to 9gag or has a memegenerator watermark or god forbid a thumbnail? What happens when people convert lossless pngs into jpgs and the image has artifacts? What do you guys think about converting everything into webp (much better compression than png, jpg, gif and lossless)? If we have someone good with bash maybe we can get someone to write a script that does a reverse image search of all their images and downloads the highest quality, watermark free version?
A lot of things may disappear and we may only have one chance, lets do this right.
Anyways, everyone give suggestions, then we can make a comprehensive guide on how to find the best quality files, how to organize them, how to automatically hash files for data integrity, all that stuff.
MEGA
What about password protected compressed archives stored on mega. Access and download through tor/vps/vpn and then all we have to do is keep a secure database of links to hoarded content shared amongst ourselves?
I'm guessing this is a terrible idea but I don't have an explicit reason. Inform me.
Tools
There are some things that are not available as torrents or on p2p networks. For these cases, I am providing some tools you guys can grab as soon everything is ready for transfer into i2p.
HTTrack
Originally a website archiver like archive.is . This tool is also useful for scraping forums Forum threads for warez or storing things in that have been scattered into file links as neat list.
Calibre
Only of interest if you enter the world of Kindleboook pirating. With this tool, you can turn every ebook format imaginable into epub files.
Kindle DRM Removal
Shouldn't be necessary and maybe doesn't work anymore. This program removes the DRM from mobi files and such makes it possible to convert them into epub.

Sharing Methods
Hey faggots, I was in the middle of hoarding shit when I noticed we haven't yet reached a consensus about how we should share shit so let's discuss it.
I propose IPFS(better than the default I2P client) over I2Pd(>java) since it sounds like the best idea up until now.
What do you fags think?
GNUnet
GNUnet is a fully decentralised p2p framework for a number of applications, the most commonly used one (probably) is filesharing
More info:
>Why use GNUnet?
>no seeding requirement
>no account needed
>no trusted 3rd parties needed
>no way to trace any traffic back to you, unless you set anonymity to 0
>even just searching for content can be done via GNUnet's anonymous protocol
>anyone can publish anything
>no way for publishers to know who's downloading
>no way for downloaders to know who's publishing (except via optional namespaces)
>Sounds cool, where do I start?
