You don't get it ?

Don't worry oni-chan will help you

Okay, just how well does the encryption alone hide traffic? Would it be better for me to set up a vpn tunnel and make it double encrypted?

Also, does the encryption prevent the propagation of viruses through the shared network traffic?

a16f7f No.155

>>153

Encrypted traffic is like sending a letter using cryptography, they know that it's a letter, they know from where and to where(only in the clearnet, hence why we're using I2P) but they can't read it. Encryption is pretty much like that. Let's say you access the https(encrypted) version of 8chan. Your ISP will know you are accessing 8chan, but they don't know what you are doing in there.

VPN would help for extra autism, but make sure it's trustworthy.

8f3252 No.166

>>155

How easily is i2ps encryption broken?

a16f7f No.169

>>166

I've heard it's better than TOR so I would say it's really hard to break. I'm pretty much /tech/ retarded though, asking in the /tech/ sticky would be better but it's fucked up ATM. Try asking on the /tech/ thread >>>/tech/444721

a31c11 No.172

So if and when we jump over to eye two pea for sharing stuff, where do I find it?

I recently got onto the bandwagon so I'm still new as fug to this. Surely there's more to the network than just the listed services in the router.

How do I explore this shit?

9dbb50 No.180

This might be a stupid question, but should I switch to linux before using I2P?

I also want to able to play Custom Maid 3D 2 and Artificial Academy 2. All I need to do that on linux is WINE, right?

8f3252 No.181

>>180

also how big is wine's impact on performance?

e17a7c No.182

>>180

>This might be a stupid question, but should I switch to linux before using I2P?

Yes. Windows 10 is a confirmed botnet, and Microsoft has been backporting the spyware to Windows 7 and 8. Linux Mint is a good beginner distribution.

>I also want to able to play Custom Maid 3D 2 and Artificial Academy 2. All I need to do that on linux is WINE, right?

Wine's come a long way the past couple of years, so probably. You'll likely have to do some fiddling around to get it working though. Link related.

http://pastebin.com/EQD0Xz24

>also how big is wine's impact on performance?

WINE Is Not an Emulator. It's a compatibility layer, so the impact is little to none. Some even run faster.

I wanna help archive music, but I have no idea how to get going with I2P. Is there an infographic for retards like me?

5ebd07 No.205

>>201

This.

I can contribute some music but I need to know how.

0f306b No.206

>>185

>'upgrading' to win10

Fucking

Why

0f306b No.208

>>201

Interested in this as well.

I've been starting to hoard some music myself and might as well share it again. If uploading through i2p isn't ridiculously slow.

e17a7c No.209

>>201

The documentation and information organization for i2p is honestly pretty shit. Here's a quick and easy guide to get you started. First you need to install and run i2p. Then you're going to want to get a separate browser, say Icecat. (There's other ways, but this is the easiest.)

Now follow these steps.

https://geti2p.net/en/about/browser-config#firefox

You can then access the console from this address.

http://127.0.0.1:7657/home

You now have i2p access. Note that it can take a while for the network to warm up, but as long as you have ~10 active connections you should be fine.

Here's the link to nntp chan

http://g7c54d4b7yva4ktpbaabqeu2yx6axalh4gevb44afpbwm23xuuya.b32.i2p/

As for torrenting, /tech/ has a whole thread on this here.

https://8ch.net/tech/res/435621.html

5ebd07 No.211

>>209

So once I'm connected can I just dump my files somewhere? How does this work exactly?

How are they being organized?

e17a7c No.213

>>211

You could make a torrent for them and put it on postman (the main tracker). There really isn't any organization right now, though in irc, they mentioned someone is working on getting a website up. I've got an idea myself that I'll be setting up within the week.

ddcad0 No.216

>>209

Thanks. I use W7 on my shitty laptop, so I'll use some windows browser. I heard some decent things about Midori.

e17a7c No.217

>>211

Just in case you're not entirely sure what i2p is, it's basically a separate internet. Anything you can do on the normal internet, you can do in i2p. It's just that i2p is relatively new so there aren't a lot of sites yet. i2p is just the infrastructure, people need to migrate and start building. (i2p even comes with a guide on hosting your own site.) It'll be a lot of work, but worth it.

5ebd07 No.218

>>209

Why a separate browser?

a16f7f No.222

>>213

>There really isn't any organization right now, though in irc, they mentioned someone is working on getting a website up

Nice. Tell those faggots to make a thread about it here though, there are people who don't go on the IRC and don't know what the fuck's going on in there.

e17a7c No.224

>>216

Try using 'Pale Moon' then. It's what I use as my daily, but it's primary focus is Windows. (Though you really should look into linux.)

>>218

Using the same browser is more difficult and has potential security issues. You could also do router configuration, but again, that's more difficult.

>>222

The site's just 'Hello World!' right now, though they've also been working on an irc. They've already got a thread up here.

>>>/220/

a16f7f No.227

>>224

I meant a thread for the site, even if it's nothing right now it could be useful considering the ammount of /tech/ fags we have here.

f9c2b3 No.230

>>201

I'll make a thread to discuss archiving music, I have so much that I don't even know where to begin.

ddcad0 No.231

Once Ableton's Live or a comparative DAW makes an appearance, I will be going full GNU/Linux. As it is, I'm stuck on Winblows.

2fade1 No.246

I am looking at eepsites and somewhat often (despite getting the address ending in .i2p and the base32 string of characters) receive an error and am not able to load the page. The error is "

Unsupported encryption options". What do I do to fix this?

2fade1 No.248

>>246

More specifically, it says "The website was not reachable, because it uses encryption options that are not supported by your I2P or Java version."

a54f11 No.251

I'm an individual who does not understand /tech/ stuff in the slightest, but I would desperately like to have files for the impending cyberpunk dystopia.

Could explain simply how to get i2p running correctly and if I should switch OS from Win 8 to something else. If the latter question is a yes, what OS and how would I go about installing it?

edece9 No.271

Hello, I want to get into this whole thing, but I'm completely lost. I'm not really knowledgable about computers, but I am very computer literate at least.

I have windows 7, but I removed and did not download the spyware updates that /tech/ talked about a while back. Updates are disabled.

I know I need to go to the i2p download site.

I need to know how I get started. What do I download from the I2p website, do I need anything else from any other sites, and lastly, do I need to do any router/firewall configuration?

My router is a linksys ea3500 router and my modem is a motorala surfboard modem.

edece9 No.272

>>271

Almost forgot, my browser is Pale Moon.

I also have mozilla for school website access and IE for facebook.

I don't use either browser for anything else, are there any security concerns about them I should know? Would their existence somehow affect my security?

Thank you for your time.

32bdaf No.281

I wouldn't mind knowing what would be absolutely needed. A 2nd browser(palemoon for this) But Iheard some ad-ons didn't work with Pale but the stuff I found for setup was shit.

Will it need a proxy before hand or just the i2p and that is it? I'd use linux but that will come later.

550ec6 No.284

I have a few questions.

In what way is everything archived and archived content would be distributed?

Are those torrents that you can find on i2p version of 8chan?

Are you doing all this with the plan of influx of i2p users in future?

What about biggest trouble of relentless cp spam if that occurs?

37bd7d No.323

I don't trust my /tech/ skills enough to archive any content of my own, but I'd still like to help by making suggestions and requests as to what gets archived

Is there some sort of system in place to do that?

a16f7f No.326

>>284

>In what way is everything archived and archived content would be distributed?

Archived on our HDs and shared via IPFS with I2P for anonymity.

>>323

32bdaf No.361

I am in need of a firefox fork that quickjava will work on. I tried pale moon and it said it wasn't compatible? if so, which version? I'd use Waterfox but I already use that, so I need a 2nd viable browser for wangblows until I can afford ome new hd's for loonix and backups.

Also should just get java version 1.6 or get the latest, which would be optimal?

Any help would be appreciated.

2b2dc7 No.368

I have two HDs, one with windows 7 and the other one I'll use for linux. If I fully encrypt one HD is there any way I can access certain files from it with windows 7?

Also, is IPFS compatible with I2P? I couldn't find anything, but if it is then we could already share files through it.

How bad of a time will I have with 50kBps upload on I2P if I ever manage to understand and get it running?

93864b No.489

>>482

I would allow the router a good 20 to 30 minutes to find peers. If it doesn't work after that point, come back.

>>487

I've been told that you shouldn't really be using up that much unless you're connected as a peer for extended periods of time, but don't quote me on that. Something about that how trusted you are as a peer is correlated to your uptime.

Any ideas?

Just finished skimming through the list of ALL anime ever made, good God… this is ridiculous, makes me think of a bunch of fat weebs scurrying to save their precious animus, wouldn't it be better to save the more important shit like music and vidya or are we supposed to actually GO OUT to stores and BUY music and vidya like uncivilized barbarians while weebs get to read their animus? 21545f No.610

We are currently making the stockpile, which we'll share with IPFS over I2Pd once it's available.

There are anons already uploading their shit on the respective threads though.

how do i help tho

21545f No.630

I think It's pretty clear we need SOMEONE with experience to explain some of the finer details.

I'd not like to be left behind when I've spent 16 years hanging around with. I may not have the same level of tech savvyness with things I only recently heard of.

99a812 No.700

I tried this shit out and tested downloading the Dark Knight Rises that had plenty of seeders, vut I only got abysmal speeds. Like 56k modem stuff.

What the fuck happened? Is this normal?

b6ccff No.701

>>699

Oh I did figure it out. It was simply because I did not wait long enough and I tinkerd with settings I should not have. Its all butter now. I'm even set up as a floodnetwork so I can help out the network. I would do a small video if some one really wants it but I am on windoze.

32bdaf No.702

I hate firefox… nyway, which version do usefor this? dislike having to go through 8 tons of shit for something simple.

93864b No.707

Torrenting through i2p is pretty slow, but you can increase your bandswidth limits in i2psnark

343dcb No.712

>>701

I'm on windows too, and am having a hell of a time. Would be helpful if you could point out some of nuances - I tried leaving mine on all day several times, thinking a bunch of traffic would be routing through my browser….nope. Like 6mb in 24hrs or something. I bumped my bandwidth limits up, but didn't see much of an effect…

cf36e1 No.713

>>712

I'm pretty sure other people have to bump their limits too, since download traffic consists of one or more instances of upload traffic.

I bumped to 256k down and 240 up and seen a pretty good spike in tunnels linked to me (I think it was around 400 before a power outage killed my server).
