b978ab No.617

Welcome to Thrasja island, a small cluster of tropical islands (consisting of two major islands, and small dots of land, all of which is easily accessable) far from any other land, with a climate perfect for life. The forests on Thrasja are lush and tall, akin to the rainforests of Earth. There is a large lake near the top of the large island, between two peaks. Three large rivers go down the mountain, holding fresh water that feeds into the lake from an underground well. smaller creeks are common around the big rivers.

Meet the inhabitants of these islands below:

The Oco are primarily herbivorous, eating bark, leaves, fruit, tubers, and other vegetation, but are known to feed on dead animals and anything it can catch. They scale the trees of the island, using their large front limbs like ice picks. They are adept swimmers as well, being descendant from octopus-like creatures, as evident from their eight limbs and hard beak. Their sturdy exoskeleton keeps them mostly safe from falls and predation. Their long "tail" gives them balance while climbing, and a rudder while swimming. They are active at any time of day or night. Females will lay their soft-shelled eggs by the hundreds by the sea, or in rivers or lakes, wherever there is water. If any eggs find themselves out of water, they will not develop and "die" until water becomes available to them, and then the eggs will continue to develop. Oco are primarily solitary, but do not mind the company of other members of their species. Oco are mild-mannered and are generally only aggressive when hungry or looking for a mate.

Laz are plain lizard-like animals. They are capable of eating everything the Oco do (they are capable climbers and swimmers as well), but their main prey is the Hof. Laz must be active during the day, while the sun can warm their bodies, as they are cold blooded. At night, Laz are inclined to dig underground the beach, where the sand/soil is still warm from the sun's rays. They lay their clutch of 3-5 hard-shelled eggs in the hot sand. Laz are extremely aggressive and territorial.

Hof are small hoofed mammals, and are very similar to small rodents of Earth. They primarily eat vegetation and seeds, and produce many young quickly, as many as 8 young per pregnancy. Hof have keen senses, but have especially keen smell, which allows them to find the ripest fruit and keep out of the way of predators. They also produce milk on patches of their underside, letting their young lap it up. Hof make their homes in nooks and crannies, which can be under roots, inside a tree, or in small underground tunnels that the Hof or Laz dig. They are mostly active at night, when Laz are not a problem. Hof are somewhat solidary, but as there are so many of them across the islands, bumping into another of their kind is not uncommon or unwelcome. There is plenty of food and mates for everyone, so there is no need to be aggressive.

The trip I'm using is for events I will do in the future.

The Hof split into the Hob. Its hind legs lengthen allowing it to hop around. This helps avoid attacks from the Laz.

So glad you finally put this game together. I thought you might have given up.

Some Hob have gained a speckled dark bornw and white pelt, which better camouflages them on the forest floor where they live.

nah, I just had to rework my idea since Ag kinda made the thread I wanted to make, which is fine because that thread is great too. Instead of making another marshy-area, I just went with this to give the board some more variety, since we haven't really had a tropical land-area yet.

Lazlo become larger and bulkier, so as to become a better hunter. Their head changes shape as well, which makes room for muscles to increase its bite strength. Its sail develops more, and it gets strange stripe patterns on its tail.

The Hompf get even bigger than before, now larger than Laz. Their large guts let them digest lots of vegetable matter.

They also develop tusks along with their over sized incisors, which they use to root up tubers and fallen roots, and also for defense. Their sheer size and aggressiveness when threatened makes them practically invulnerable. However, a drop-attack from a hungry Oco can be fatal.

Their tails also shorten, as they rely more on their plump, sturdy legs for balance.

Some Oco found diving off trees and landing with their beak on other animals is an efficient way to acquire a meal. These Oco split into Ocop. This behavior caused their beaks to grow sharper and stronger, and their tails to grow more appendages to stabilize them during the dive.

Oco split into Broco. They are better adapted to life on land as their color pattern helps them hide in the ground better. They have also begun digging holes to lay their eggs, once the hole is dug they place their eggs in a mucous substance which keeps them hydrated until they hatch. They are highly territorial and will attempt to kill or drive away any being that comes within 2ft of their nest, including other Broco. Both parents guard the nest but the female must also make a weekly trip to eat and drink to refill the mucous substance that keeps their eggs hydrated, if they don't make it back in time the eggs die and the male eats them.

The hob gain a better posture and more stable legs, which makes it easier to hop around. Their tail thickens as well, which they use for balance and to rest on occasionally, when they're reaching for taller plants they can't reach.

Speaking of reaching, they have gained a semi-opposable thumb, which they use to grasp branches and pull them into mouth-range.

They have also become slightly reddish, similar to the color of the trees that surround them.

>>627

Laz that were too slow to hunt ended up eating more vegetation than their more agile brethren. Thus, the Lazie were born.

Lazie have a larger gut, better for digesting plant matter. They become darker in color, which helps them stay hidden in the vegetation. Lazie are also nearly the size of Hompf, and since both are fairly aggressive, confrontations can become physical, although Hompf often win out, due to their size and height advantage, as well as Lazie not wanting to waste energy, being endothermic.

Lazie have also gained a dewlap and a crest made of loose skin, which help it cool off in the heat of the day.

Event Time!

A strange current has brought in two new creatures, The Sealt and the Noalmn.

The Sealt are fully-aquatic relatives of the Aeyaltower >>638

They grow very tall and tend to clump together quite densely. They have strong roots that hold them to the rocky seabeds of the shallow sea.

Noalmn are quite large (compared to the local fauna) oceanic relatives of the Nulum >>676

Noalmn will feed on Sealt, but are primarily carnivorous. They are poorly adapted for breaking open Oco-type's hard shells, and go after easier prey like the oco egg-eating Lazlo and other prey items that happen to be taking a dip.

there are also smaller, unseen (and uneditable) Hof-sized fish that are now an available food source. (I may make the fish editable if you guys want to go with the next event)

b978ab No.690

File: 1442361920203.png (4.35 KB, 282x239, 282:239, lazie water.png)

>>659

A new type of Lazie split from the original Lazie.

These new Lazie are more adapted to an aquatic lifestyle than their relatives. They have gained a more blue-colored hue to better hide themselves underwater. They feed on the Sealt, being sure to hide within so as not to be spotted by a Noalmn.

These Lazie have webbed fingers and toes, and their dewlap have become smaller, while their skin-crest has become more rigid and fin-like, which it uses to help it turn. It also has a stronger tail, which it uses while swimming.

When it's not in the shallow sea, Lazie generally retreat to the mainland, but more commonly the smaller islands, which have better access to the shallow sea and has less threats. These Lazie like to bask in the sun on the rocky shores of these smaller islands.

>>662

The Lazlag split from these egg-eating Lazlo.

Lazlag have sails and crests that help them better for swimming. Their limbs are stronger and better for swimming, but they can still walk on land. Their tails also get "fins", which give them more swimming power.

b2f64a No.692

File: 1442366252967.png (2.47 KB, 250x92, 125:46, Vishisbuggerstheyare.png)

>>689

The Noalma are Noalmn who have dimorphism in their back fins, sharp teeth, and a long, green tongue.

It is a lazy predator, nestling itself inside the Sealt, leaving it's tongue waving. When a creature swims by, it gently pokes it with it's tongue. The prey will begin to eat the tongue as the Noalma slowly begins realing it's tongue back inside it's mouth before it quickly closes it's mouth around it's prey.

They will eat anything that swims into it's mouth. They are highly territorial of the patches, and the males are for their mating grounds. When fighting among one another, they will often simply snap repeatedly and swim toward each other, until one takes a bite or one is scared off.

>>659

The Lazie become more and more leaf like, allowing them to camouflage better.

Along with this new look, leads to them being cool off easier, but this also means that they need to be in the sun more. to heat up, leading to more encounters with the Hompf.

For this reason, they grow a horn, to help with battles. The males also use this to battle for mates if needed, but mostly stay calm.

In addition to their horns, they also stay in packs. These packs keep would-be predators away from their mud pools

Many also stay in the mud while heating back up, leading to them starting to gain a brown colouration in their extremities.

>>617

Some Oco become more land bound, and move to cliffs inland. These become known as the Toco.

The Toco have longer legs, which helps with scurrying around the ground.

They also evolved pincers; however, they are not used for combat, and instead climbing. They use these new climbing appendages to clamber up the cliff faces, and put their eggs in pockets in the cliff.

They tend to be burrows, and are guarded by sticks they find on the ground.

Lyzie spend most of their life in water, only leaving to briefly avoid predators and to lay their eggs. They now eat fish as well as plants, but are shifting more towards fish. They no longer have fingers, but instead fins.

They also are smarter than any other kind of Laz-types, about as smart as the average Hob-type (which are about as smart as mice).

The Hobranch are the aboreal shoot off of the Hobo.

Hobranch have taken to the trees, with their long legs and arms and now front limbs that are farther out to the side rather than in front of them as they were before. Their four-fingered hands (hob had three fingers but I guess it wasn't obvious) and opposable thumb give them good grip, and they rarely fall when climbing.

Their faces shorten and their incisors become larger, better to eat the bark and hard fruits of the treetops. They are active at dusk and dawn, rather than at night like previous hof-types.

Well, here's hoping this place isn't dead!

Nice to meet you all, hope we can get some good evolving done! As per tradition, I'm evolving something in my first post.

The Oco's claws enlargen, allowing their burrows to be excavated faster. To aid this digging process, their tail fins grow too, allowing them to curl under their belly and shovel sand and dirt backwards, clearing the space for more excavation.

If you don't mind me asking, I am a noob at editing. Is Gimp a suitable program? I attempted to mimic the colouring style of the previous poster (the speckled, non-uniform dotting, which I do not know the term for) and I imagine I'm just flat out doing-it-wrong. What tool is used to accomplish that, or is it done manually, dot by dot, like I attempted?

Cheers, all!
