6c8114 No.806

In the stretch of land between the great desert and the mountains lies an ancient land. Flesh stretches like a canvas across an alien landscape. There are no plants, or species of animals. The plains are their own species. Individual body parts form from the land – some are free moving, most are rooted in place. The free-moving creatures are called fleshlings – they are short-lived and have no impulses or instincts, they just jut around looking for other fleshlings to dine upon. The air here is heavy and wet and the weather is always warm. Patches of fur flow like grass in the humid wind. Occasionally pools of algae appear giving the landscape a vibrant green hue. Tumorous mounds grow the size of large hills and spikes of bone stand like naked trees.

This is the new home of the Syxiar Hominad, Xigz, Halon, and Hobo. (Some will also remain in their original biomes as well)

There are large pools of water-like fluid so the Syxiar Hominads can remain in their water-dwelling form.

There are 2 creatures that form other than the fleshlings:

Symbionts - slow moving and often root to anything they can get ahold of; they prefer mobile creatures. When attached they feed off the creature, but do no kill it. In exchange, they provide amazing eyesight to the mostly blind fleshlings. (yes, they can attach to the Hobos, Xigz, Syxiar, and Halon.)

Hum’yl – voracious bipeds. They drag their long mouths across the landscape gobbling up any fleshling unfortunate enough to get in its path. When they are ready to breed they attach their maw to the landscape and feed off it. The Hum’yl always bear 2 children that burst from the body of the “mother” when gestation is complete.

The halon, familiar with self-awareness. is instantly terrified of it's new surroundings- everything looks diseased or rotten.

It appears most Halon appeared with what they were carrying at the time, and in small groups that are each parts of a tribe.

A weeks time back home passed by before they came to terms and began working.

Some cut long slices in the flesh, and sewed what seeds they had.

Of hundreds of seeds, one group- the largest- managed to get it to grow. It was unhealthy looking, but it was starting to establish it's tubers.

When word spread, this group grew in numbers, until it swole into the thousands.

Everyone else died, or became nomads.

The group began ripping up bones, building lean-tos so they could get away from the ground at night, which they were deadly afraid of.

Some noticed that the fire brought with them spread to the buildings- and burnt quite well.

It was that these bones were filled with phosphorous and coated in carbon.

They immediately began cooking flesh of the planet and flesh of the creatures here.

Their first contact with the Hobo was bloodshed- the hobo, foolish, decided it was best to approach the Halon.

The Halon didn't yet grasp that other creatures could share their sentience.

The halon burned and stabbed at the approaching Hobo.

Few from that group survived, and it returned back to tell of the evil things that hold burning sticks.

Their first meeting with the Xigz was different.

The Xigz shot first. There was less of a massacre this time, and they both backed away, watching each other.

Perhaps these other creatures were smarter than the usual parasite.

The Halon's tail became shorter to preserve energy, as they don't need such a long tail.

This is beautiful! I love it. I'm also glad you decided to bring some plants along - I thought about including it, but you beat me to the punch.

This is hell.

That is what the Hobo that first arrived would have surely thought, if they had developed a concept of hell yet, let alone culture. This grotesque land is a far cry from their tropical paradise.

The first scattered few were in shock. They were not prepared for their sudden enlightenment, yet in a way they were. Their opposable thumbs gave them the ability to craft tools, their upright posture leaving their hands free for such activities.

Their herbivorous nature left them with seeds stuck to their fur when they suddenly arrived, though they did not know what to do with them. After a few generations of silently and cautiously observing the apparently dangerous Halon, Hobbon begin to explore agriculture. Before, they would scrounge up what they could, often bands of Hobbon stealing from Halon farms. Once they began growing their own food, larger settlements developed and Hobbon grouped larger and larger.

From watching the Halon, the Hobbon know to grow seeds from both the Halon's and their own homeland, though the Hobbon do not remember their home anymore. They build large huts of bone shards, and burn the phosphorus shards for warmth as well. They wear clothes of the "fleshscape" (skin-land, as they call in their primitive language, which is mostly based on body language and simple gestures rather than sound), and paint their faces with blood for apparently religious reasons.

Physically, Hobbon have become camouflaged to hide in the fleshscape. Their eyes are bigger, as well as their brains. They are well adapted to moving long distances, and can rest on their tails as a third tail. They have excellent night vision as well as limited color vision, and can only perceive reds, browns, yellows, and oranges.

1. eventually the xigz start to gain confidence about exploring the outside and find the entire landscape is made out of flesh. this is good for them but as they soon find their young cannot survive in the ground and so watch the hobo and halon to use their farming techniques for their young, elevating them off the ground so they are not swallowed by the land.

2. after their first few batches of eggs hatch they realize that they are running low on food for their young, having only a limited supply. they use some of the nests to grow yeab sprouts but they come up a sickly color.

3. realizing they all cannot live inside of the bone towers some rudimentary housing is built out of bones, yeab sprouts, and fur-grass.

4. now that they have the ability for some sort of future it allows them to think. they start to cover themselves in paints made from the landscape and each type means a different job.

I - made from bones; denotes scouts

II - made from land-flesh; denotes builders

III - made from yeab leaves; denotes farmers

IV - made from blood; denotes warriors and cooks

V - made from algae and xigz wings; denotes the elders

(i hope this wasn't too extreme for a single post.)

Can we make maps of the planet?

The halon have secretly been observing the Hobo for generations.

They see them shrink away when they catch sight.

They know they are terrified of the Halon.

But they also know that the Hobo has some intelligence.

A group of halon, 50 strong, walked towards the Hobo camp.

Upon sight, many of the Hobo fled, while many stood forward, feigning a large stature.

The Halon, holding burning bones, put them on the ground, and backed away slowly.

That's one group, hopefully reasoned with.

There was still another to deal with, however.

The same group approached a city of Xigz, bustling with activity.

The Xigz, just recently beginning to pass stories around, remember little of the Halon.

The halon remembered the Xigz, and know that they aren't that bad.

Half of the Halon dropped their bones and backed away, while the rest picked some nuts from the trees, and then ran away.

_______

Hala, the leader of the group of Halon sat atop his personal lean-to, watching the activity of the Halon. Some were teaching the young ones, some sewing seeds and nuts, some ripping up plants, or ripping down trees. Everything was perfect for now. He knew not yet how the Hobo or Xigz feel of them, but if they both see the Halon well, everything here will be as perfect as it can be, for now.

He drew out a long cheeter, as an expeditionary force arrived from the North-East, where a large pit in the ground expels sticky fluid and small sharp rocks coated in wax.

The force has brought back some of these stones, wax and fluid. He ordered that the stones be used at once, either in fire, or at the end of tools.

The Halon got to work.

there actually was a thread already about making a map for the planet. this was the final result.

(though a map for how close all the guys in this thread wouldn't be a bad idea possibly.)

I know about that map, I helped make it.

This place is a new planet, so I meant for this planet.

oh! whoops. my bad. i didn't even realize this was a separate planet. a map for it would probably be good. would that be an entire new thread or would it just get added in parts here along with the other posts?

Actually, a direct quote from the beginning quote of this game disproves that this is on a seperate planet

1. the arrival of a force of hobo at the largest city of xigz caused quite a bit of alarm, most of the populace retreating to their homes. with all but the elders hidden they are the only ones who see the hobo leave their bones and take nuts.

curiously they move over to the items and realize they are made of the materials of the land. they had never thought to use them for anything other than housing before so they create various tools. 1- tool hilt, 2- knife, 3- chisel/hoe, 4- saw, 5- hammer.

2. now with all these additional items they find they are having trouble carrying back them and other things. the xigz elders work and create pouches/slings made from land-leather and rope woven from yeab leaves, the same used for tools.

3. hearing the wind rushing through their large bone spire homes gives the xigz joy. they wonder if they can perhaps capture the sound and use it whenever they want. it doesn't take very long for them to develop drums(1), harps(2), and horns(3).

for now everything is good but the elders warn things may not always be this way, calling back to the story of their arrival, the oldest story they know. they say all the xigz should honor the souls of the departed and the spirits of the past for they are helping them, starting a monthly holiday to revere them.

Hobbon that stray too far out into the unclaimed territory that is not protected against dangers may meet certain doom to hungry Hum'yl, or become overwhelmed by Symbionts desperate for a host. Those not drained dry by Symbionts, however, are gifted with almost supernatural vision. The Symbiont gives complete control of its body to the Hobbon host, and due to having eyes similar to their mammalian ones, these Hobbon adapt fairly well.

Unfortunately, as with any foreign object in an organism's body, Hobbon's natural defenses try to reject the new "organ", resulting in missing patches of fur, as well as miscolored areas, due to stress.

These Hobbon are usually shunned and seem as monsters, and due to them being fairly rare as Hobbon do not stray off on their own too often, more are only produced when a Symbiont attaches to a fresh Symbiont. However, if a Hobbon with a Symbiont attached were to breed with another Hobbon, the offspring would be more susceptible to a Symbiont attaching to it, as the original Symbiont leaves traces of DNA in its host that pass down through breeding.

>What stops us from expanding past this biome?

I'm assuming there must be something stopping us, but knowing exactly what could allow us to have the creatures try to escape only to be stopped. But by what? Aether?

Nothing is stopping you from venturing past the wastes. Though it would be hard for many of the creatures to survive the trek in the desert. I would say there is a nice 100 mile border between the forsaken plains and the mountains or populated area of the desert.

When two symbiote-host Hobbon mate, the offspring comes out with enough Symbiont DNA to extract some of their qualities naturally.

They are born with the Symbiont vision, skin color, and patterning, as well as with their claws resembling the elongated nature of the Symbiont appendage.

Due to the partial hairless issue of their parents, Sym-Hobbon are completely bald, with lighter colored soft skin in their more vulnerable areas.

With their high Symbiont DNA, the Symbiont see them as one of their own and refuse to attach to them, and because their appearance closer relates to the Hobbon than their three-eyed parents, they are begrudgingly accepted into Hobbon societies, however treated poorly.

(after my joke post, I felt the need to make a serious one to redeem my place in this topic :P)

Unknowingly thankful that it cannot see its surroundings, a branch of Syxiar breaks off to roam the lands of the forsaken plains.

Their gait is much shorter and bulkier and they are known as the Syxiar Walkers. They roam in packs using their new ears to listen for any coming predators. They feed on the fleshy landscape.

To be fair, I forgot to mention that the fleshlings have unstable genetics. They are born of the land and die soon after. They come in all forms, but each one is different. The Hum'yl and the Symbiont are the only creatures that regularly appear in similar form.

Having said this, If a symbiont were to bond with a fleshling it could stablize its genetics and evolve over time. So basically - yes.

With the Xigz and Syxiar being difficult prey, the Hum'yl adapt. Some form long legs that allow them to jump higher and prey solely on these two. These are known as the Hum'yl Hoppers.

A new behavior has been witnessed from the Symbiont. Any time a cluster of them are getting close to death, with no other beings to leech off of, they form cells by attaching to one another.

While in this state, the Symbiont Cell uses their combined appendages much like a mouth with multiple tongues and actually starts feeding off of patches of fur, moss, and hair around the landscape.

a "4-cell" like this has two eyes on each side of their body, and rolls around like a wheel. Larger cells are possible, but require more energy for sustenance, making them very rare to survive.

In the liquid in the flesh plains seems to be some sort of naturally recreated pools of amniotic-like fluids, filled with nutrients such as blood, flesh, and other bodily morsels.

The Syxiar in this biome have found large, osseous structures that, using new tools made of stone and these same bones, have mad houses for themselves. They often make these tribes around "cuts" in the flesh which secret the nutrient rich blood, which the Syixar will happily absorb.

They have also managed to create liquid sacs for themselves by using the bones to scrape off large portions of skin, which are almost transparent. These are often used as convenience as to use as a food source.

These Syixiar, as they cannot communicate sonically, have evolved a written language, with 18 base characters. This helps the tribes of Syxiar to better understand what happens around them, and coordinate efforts.
