Feel free to make any constructive suggestions. For the forseeable future, discussion of NASCAR, WEC/LeMans, Indycar, and other motorsport series will be allowed. It is preferable that discussion be related back to F1, but not required.

You guys excited? 3 days until practice 1 and we still have no clue whether Giedo will get to race or who the second Manor driver is.

Sauber claims that they can't give Giedo a race seat because he might die from not having a seat shaped properly for his delicate buttocks. Don't they have molds of Giedo's ass from the last time he drove the car?

We'll find out on wednesday, Sauber's arguments (that it will financially hurt the team to honor their contract with GVDG, and that it's dangerous for GVDG to race without a seat specially made for him) are pretty weak and smack of desperation. Here's a summary article

Giedo better get the seat. Monisha, who is ironically a lawyer, failed to present a strong argument against him.

Commit her to prison, the more drama, the merrier for me.

In other news, I hope the best for Ferrari. It would seem that their pace is at least competitive against the williams (wontiams). Plus Raikonnen and Vettel are both much more accomplished drivers than either Bottas or Massa.

Again, I wouldn't be suprised to see Hamilton win the race, but, at least based on practice pace (and extrapolating from the qualifying pace of last year), Rosberg is probably equipped with the potential to challenge him.

Lotus, who I've also been rooting for, seem to be somewhat more competitive than last year. Hopefully theyll be able to at least place in the 7-10 positions consistently. Considering that Maclaren is getting fucked through multiple exhaust holes, it seems ever more likely that Lotus will be able to score lower-tier points with relative ease.

Giedo has apparently reached an agreement not to race in australia.

From facebook
>"With respect to the interest of motorsport, and F1 in particular, I have decided to give up my legal rights to race this weekend at the Melbourne Grand Prix.

As I am a passionate race driver this decision has been very difficult for me.

However I also wish to respect the interest of the FIA, Sauber Motorsport, as well as Nasr and Ericsson.

My management will continue talks with Sauber early next week to find a mutually acceptable solution for the current situation that has now arisen.

I am confident such solution will be found and I will inform the media once done."

Alright guys, I've had time to think about the race yesterday and have since come to this conclusion.

It was still a shitty race.

e5455f No.1463

Wow, who wants to F1 nowadays ? There are too much money involved and too much régulations, it kills the sport.

88821d No.1464

>>1463
If there were more ways to compete (engine development, more chassis freedom, less obsessively regulated aero) teams wouldnt be encountering diminishing returns in performance for dollar spent. In large part the cost cutting measures have made very marginal cost savings, but made running a competitive team or moving up the grid far more expensive.

F1 right now has a disrespect for the way economics work on a very basic level. We should seriously look at every rule made since 1994 and start striking them down. Also the team payouts need to be more fairly distributed.

d14639 No.1465

>>1463
You're right, but the thing that scares me is that people think that "the sport" and "the show" are separate. In f1 half the sport is in the freedom to develop the cars in a limited restriction formula 1. This inherently produces good racing and consequently, a good show. FOM, the FIA, many fans, and the news commentators seem to think that adding more rules will improve things when it is the opposite. Those fake sparks looks ridiculous, drs and kers are extremely gimmicky and cheap concepts that take a lot of skill out.

16cfe8 No.1466

>>1463
If you can't pay the bills, get out of the sport. Plain and simple. Makes room for more proper, relevant companies like Toyota and potentially Audi to get into F1, where we can have more battles rather than backmarkers shitting up the grid.

d14639 No.1467

>>1466
And while you're not wrong in saying that unprofessional outfits shouldn't be in the top level of motorsport. The quest for lower speeds, overzealous safety measures, and draconian rules has disinterested manufacturers in taking the place of these backmarkers.
Michelin runs a wec program and has said several times that they don't want to make tyres that are regulated as heavily as they are, and with forced degradation.
Toyota runs a very successful wec program and will only run one effort of that level. It cost them far less to have this great pr in wec than it did for their mediocre team in f1.
Audi it seems only has a likely chance of joining f1 if Volkswagen group decides its Porsches turn to dominate wec.

3c7b21 No.2166

>>1465

I totally agree. I believe that F1 is supposed to be the entry door for people discovering the Automobile World (at least in Europe since USA have much more different and fun auto competitions) , and therefore F1 should be fun to watch, exciting and gathering supporters. But F1 is failing at this task.

Good example: Moto3, 125cc bikes for everyone, 30+ riders, 7-8 riders in the same second at the starting Grid, not a single lap without overtake…and I could go on.

>>1466
Audi making AWD F1 to promote their Quattro ? Sounds fun.

88821d No.2167

>>2166
The key thing to f1 though is not to be gimmicky. F1 has to have good racing because of open and consistent rules, not retarded shit like reverse grids, spark making titanium blocks, drs, kers, double points, etc.

88821d No.2168

>>2166
you're right in pointing out that motogp and its series are definitely something to learn from.
