>Button will have to serve a 10 seconds stop and go penalty within the first 3 laps

>Alonso will have a drive-through penalty

Before the end of the season Button will start 2 laps behind everyone else and still have to serve a 30 minute stop and go penalty.

F1: Circuit 'alternation' could save Italian GP ?

http://paddocktalk.com/news/html/story-281843.html

>Imola has emerged in the running to return to formula one.

>Currently, the future of the Italian grand prix at historic Monza is under a cloud, as F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone demands a higher annual race fee.

>And now, another Italian circuit - the former long-time San Marino grand prix venue Imola - has suddenly emerged in the running to return to the calendar.

>It follows a meeting at Ecclestone's London office on Monday between the 84-year-old Briton and Daniele Manca, who is the mayor of the town of Imola.

>The specialist Italian publications Autosprint and Omnicorse each published separate photographs of the meeting, which was also attended by other Italian officials.

>"We wanted to show to Ecclestone the will of the town of Imola to get back to formula one," mayor Manca said, "but above all to do our part to keep a grand prix in Italy."

>The last grand prix held at Imola was in 2006.

>Manca admitted one idea is an "alternation between different (Italian) national circuits", with the Ferrari-linked media insider Leo Turrini speculating that F1 could switch between Monza, Imola and Ferrari-owned Mugello.

>Manca continued: "Ecclestone told us that he never wanted to lose Imola, and that it was in fact Enzo Ferrari who asked him first to organise a race at our circuit."

>He said the current discussions are about the 2017 season, which would coincide with the end of Monza's existing contract.

>Rob La Salle, the correspondent for Speed Week, wondered: "Is this just a question of him (Ecclestone) putting pressure on Monza?"

I'm not a fan of losing Monza, but Mugello would be very nice. Imola has been fucked with too much because of senna feels. Although, in the past imola and monza held races in the same year.

>“It’s a good idea but we don’t have any such kind of plan,” said Arai. “I concentrate on McLaren-Honda, one team, that’s it.”

Imola replaced Monza once for Italian GP as Monza was undergoing refurbishment so it isn't a new suggestion.

I don't think Mugello or Imola will give particularly good racing but then again Monza can be a bit of a borefest.

The more important thing is that there is an Italian GP on the calendar.

It isn't like the German GP where the fans don't care anymore because of Schumi, the Italian GP will always have the Tifosi and should always be on the grid.

6b1784 No.14791

>>14790

Yeah I know imola subbed for Monza in 1980, but we've pretty much always had a san Marino gp as well.

Germans have never really been super into open wheel racing. I've heard it said that before schumi, only Hans Joachim stuck really drew crowds.

As for mugello not being likely to make great racing, nothing is going to make good racing with these cars under these rules. May as well pick nice tracks.

1f228a No.14792

>>14791

The problem is that Monza and Imola can't really afford a yearly contract.

Mugello being owned by Ferrari means that is less of an issue but Bernie can get more money out of all 3 through a 3 way contract deal so he will prefer that.

That or Bernie is just doing his classic tactic of teasing offers to other circuits so the original circuit pays up the cash. It worked perfectly with Silverstone and Donington.

Mood for immediate change growing in F1

>The mood for immediate change in the increasingly-alarmed F1 paddock is growing.

>Summing up the burgeoning crisis, McLaren team boss Eric Boullier told Spain's Marca: "Drivers are not happy, the public is noticing and they (the audience) are leaving F1."

>Front and centre of the argument is Red Bull, who spent the entire weekend at the 'Red Bull Ring' insisting that the sport is spiralling towards the abyss.

>"Bernie Ecclestone needs to get together with Jean Todt and do something," boss Christian Horner is quoted by the German news agency DPA.

>"And as fast as possible. Formula one is running out of time."

>F1 has, however, already acknowledged collectively that it has a problem and is discussing what drastic changes should be introduced for 2017.

>"We have recognised the problem," Ferrari's Maurizio Arrivabene told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, "but another thing is certain: We must not waste any more time."

>Indeed, there is now a push to speed up the process and introduce radical changes not for 2017, but in 2016.

>"The change in the cars should come as soon as possible," agreed Dr Helmut Marko. "If everyone wants it, already in 2016."

>Ecclestone, the F1 supremo, is on board.

>"We cannot wait and see," the 84-year-old told Salzburger Nachrichten newspaper, arguing that the complexity of the 'power units' is the biggest problem.

>"We need something simpler."

>Until now, F1 has baulked at simply scrapping the quiet and expensive turbo V6s, as it was said Mercedes would quit the sport in protest.

>"If they (manufacturers) want to go, they will go," Ecclestone insisted.

>He said that also applies to Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz, who is once again threatening to quit.

>"He is in a position where he doesn't have to ask anyone," Ecclestone admitted.

>"He is frustrated and that is understandable, because if he was in a position to do something about it, he would."

>Honda is also grappling with the current rules, while Renault's problems are well known.

>But Ecclestone said: "I am confident that no one is going to leave formula one."

>Red Bull's Horner, however, thinks the current governance structure of the sport is clearly not working.

>"Perhaps," he said, "we need an independent expert, and someone who is not involved in the championship. I don't know, but someone like Ross Brawn, who understands the business and the complexity.

>"I don't think formula one can allow manufacturers of the likes of Renault and Honda to be in this situation. Honda's new president came to the race today and I do not think he was happy with what he saw," added Horner.

Going back to wider non-grooved tires and 2 meters wide is a huge improvement. Now it looks like they're ready to ditch the current engine formula, which is awesome. Now if we could go to a 3 liter formula (which Bernie and Jenson Button have already alluded to) or an unrestricted turbo formula without the hybrid system, that would be excellent.

As has been said before, if manufacturers quit f1 (which is not likely to happen) and the formula is with engines that car cost effective to develop (3 liters), customer engine suppliers like Judd, AER, Gibson Technology, Cosworth, and Illmor will fill the gap because that is how free markets work.

fde9e8 No.14828

Agreed, though they should also do away with the minimum weight and probably should give a 2 or 4 bar boost limit to the turbo engines so they aren't exploding every 5 seconds, and to give the naturally aspirated engines a fair shot.

Another thing I would like to see would be some semi-pros to fill out the field if we don't get many constructors to fill a 26 car grid. >On June 6th, after the Moscow ePrix I suffered a faint as a result of dehydration and extreme exhaustion during the race.

>As a consequence of this faint I had some medical tests done, with successful results, and at the moment my license is temporarily suspended until the FIA makes sure that I'm fully able to carry on with my sporting career.

>My health is safe and I'm in shape, and I'm absolutely convinced I can compete this weekend, but for security reasons we need to delve into medical research. For this reason, together with Virgin Racing, the FIA and the doctors we've decided not to take part in the London ePrix this weekend.

>It's a shame because it will be the last ePrix of the season and I wanted to race in front of our fans, but we must be respectful with the FIA's procedures.

>I want to wish all the luck to my team Virgin Racing in the last ePrix of the 2014/15 Formula E season.

It is a bit weird passing from such a small race so I imagine the FIA are curious more than anything. If it was a concussion it would make more sense as they are serious and should not be played off.

In the end Jaime is being replaced by Fabio Leimer.

Merhi admits still looking for sponsor

http://paddocktalk.com/news/html/story-282546.html

>As the mid-point of the 2015 season approaches, Roberto Merhi has clung onto his Manor seat so far.

>The rookie Spaniard's place has been under a cloud all year, as the former Marussia team left the back door open for a driver who can bring more funding.

>But it emerges that Merhi, 24, will retain his seat for the forthcoming British grand prix, even though he has not given up the search for a sponsor.

>"We're seeing if we can bring a sponsor," he confirmed to the Spanish daily Marca, "but the results are coming now and that is what helps me."

>Merhi said Manor will finally add some new parts to the outdated 2015 package at Silverstone, while he is feeling happier with his own performance.

>"The team is happy with the times and the consistency," he revealed.

>"It is true that it took me time to adapt to the car and the Pirelli tyres, but everything has changed now."

>It was said that Merhi's place was in doubt due to the recent signing as reserve driver of 2013 GP2 champion Fabio Leimer.

>But the Swiss is in fact headed to London this weekend for the Formula E race, after Virgin regular and former F1 driver Jaime Alguersuari had his licence suspended by the FIA following a recent fainting spell.

If he doesn't have sponsorship, how was he paying to drive fp1s for caterham last year?

f8ebc4 No.14922

I think it's because the Bianchi incident is still too close. It will take one or two years without major crashes before people stop going on and on about safety.

And it talks to more people. If you're having a rant about how DRS killed overtaking, you'll have it with a couple of people at most. If you're having a rant on safety everyone, including your grand mother, has a take on the subject.

People underestimate the toughness of modern day cars. Upon seeing the Raikkonen/Alonso crash, some people legitimately wondered whether or not the drivers were hurt. By F1 standards, it was a small crash. I would be surprised if the safety cells were even damaged by that shunt. Sure Alonso tried to park like japanese people do, by stacking cars, but it was a small bump.

And it's easier to give suggestions like closed cockpit rather than forcing drivers to slow down in yellow flag zones.

1f228a No.14934

>>14933

Yeah they do get some VIPs like Gordon Ramsey, Chris Evans or Carol Vorderman. They used to have one of the drivers do it on occasion.

Essentially how it works is for race 1 they have a quali session, in race 2 they start in the position they finished in race 1 and in race 3 someone draws a ball out of a bag and that determines how much of the top 10 is reversed. So if ball 7 was drawn 7th would be on pole, 6th in 2nd, 5th in 3rd and so on.

They changed it recently so drivers don't pick the balls out after a driver picked his own number out so he was on pole after seeing the ball with his number on it.

>8th - 21Kg

>9th - 15Kg

1f228a No.14938

>>14937

Well originally for the last race they just reversed the top 10 to get pole but then that meant some drivers would slow down to try and get 10th in the 2nd race.

That is both not proper racing or safe because some drivers would basically just park on the start line waiting for 9th to come round and other cars would need to take evasive action so as to not slam into them.

So they decided that this draw would somehow solve that issue instead of doing the smart thing and not reversing the grid and having it based fastest lap or some shit.

The thing is all these spec motorsports try to toss up the grid, but have to rely on asinine, artificial, and stupid methods to do so.

I just read the super 2000 regulations and I'm amazed anyone watches this shit. What the fuck happened to group A?

I, like many others on this board just about cannot watch spec motorsport. Nevermind that it makes for races decided entirely by random occurrences and pit stop errors, people want to see imbalance. Motorsport fans want to see cars with different pluses and minuses, drivers with different forte's trying to maximize the effectiveness of their package. I want to see a car with higher cornering speeds duke it out with the car that's faster on the straights. Things like that. F1 used to offer that, group c world sportscar did, CART did, and plenty of other motorsports, but now everything is an overregulated fuckmess, a random shitshow, or processional. Those are not even necessarily mutually exclusive.

Why is all motorsport spec? Its not even that expensive in most cases to buy last years customer chassis, plus multiple parts providers brings the cost down.

>Fans might accept a common gearbox as a cost-saving measure, or a single brake disc supplier. Should proposals extend as far as regulating a spec F1 chassis with teams differentiated only by the bodywork and power unit, however, there would be public condemnation of the sport forgetting its origins, of tweaking its DNA like a Monsanto crop designed to produce sterile seeds.

>The spec chassis concept is not so far-fetched, and has been discussed before as a potential cost-saving measure that would have the added benefit of being an income stream for the team lucky enough to be chosen to develop and sell the base part to their rivals.

>It might make good business sense, it might assist in prolonging the sport’s survival but it hardly takes into account F1’s need to remain entertaining to those who seek out the sport for its technological prowess.

Are these people fucking retarded? Highly regulated formulas cost MORE money as teams are required to spend into diminishing returns in the few fields (like aero) that they can change. It makes racing more processional and performance more expensive. Anyone who has a fucking concept of economies can tell you that.

The organisers just sit back a bit.

I imagine there are people just who don't like that and would much rather have control over everything they could.

That isn't a very good explanation but I see it like any government where they just want control over their citizens.

A government banning something because a citizen might hurt themselves is similar to the FIA banning something because a team might bankrupt themselves.

Max Mosley and the FIA's micro management is not limited to motorsport. They authored the EURONCAP rules for what safety standards new cars must meet (the us has a similar retarded system). This is why all the cars have tiny windows, huge pillars, high hoods, enormous wheels and other terrible issues. Visibility and weight of modern cars are terrible for the same reasons.
