BELGIUM GP THREAD

PROTIP:

>Eau Rogue literally means "red water"

>the name comes from the red iron deposits left on the banks of the river that runs under the circuit

>this river is under turn 2, which is the left turn kink before the big hill

>thus the official name of turn 2 is "Eau Rouge"

>the right turn on big hill doesn't have a name, it is officially called "Turn 3"

>turn 4, the left turn at the top of the hill is called "Raidillion"

>Only tards call the right turn on the big hill Eau Rogue

But it's still officially called Abbey.

l'Ancienne Douane is now officially Turn 3

Well it's not my fault that they got distracted during their renaming process because of Hitler turning up.

Also if they are legally allowed to still call Rindt and Tamburello by their names after what happened to them then l'Ancienne Douane is perfectly acceptable.

Just shorten it to Dewayne and pretend it is one of Hamiltons kids.

Kimi should be on the podium for this race. The SF15-T is not a bad car and he almost got it last year in the horrid 14-T.

He could even win it if the Mercedes can't pull away in the twisty bits and Ferrari can shadow them on the straights.

Williams should be in good shape too. Force India, Lotus, Sauber, it's an opportunity for them all really.

Honda are bringing an Mk3 engine so it would be interesting to see how they get on.

The FIA has imposed further restrictions on pit-to-driver communications and signalling for the 2016 Formula 1 season.

Motorsport's world governing body has decided upon stricter enforcement of article 20.1 of the sporting regulations that states "the driver shall drive the car alone and unaided".

It is part of the FIA's stance to ensure all drivers receive as little assistance as possible from the pitwall in future during grands prix in light of the technological advances that have been made over the years.

The following is a list of the permitted messages for 2016, with anything else regarded as a breach of article 20.1:

1. Indication of a critical problem with the car, e.g. puncture warning or damage.*

2. Indication of a problem with a competitor's car.*

3. Instruction to enter the pitlane in order to fix or retire the car.*

4. Marshalling information (yellow flag, red flag, race start aborted or other similar instructions or information from race control).*

5. Wet track, oil or debris in certain corners.*

6. Instructions to swap position with other drivers.*

* indicates these are the only messages that may be passed to the driver whilst he is in the car and on the track, from the time the car leaves the garage for the first time after the pit lane is open on the day of the race until the start of the race.

7. Acknowledgement that a driver message has been heard.

8. Lap or sector time detail.

9. Lap time detail of a competitor.

10. Gaps to a competitor during a practice session or race.

11. "Push hard", "push now", "you will be racing xx" or similar.

12. Helping with warning of traffic during a practice session or race.

13. Giving the gaps between cars in qualifying so as to better position the car for a clear lap.

14. Tyre choice at the next pitstop.

15. Number of laps a competitor has done on a set of tyres during a race.

16. Tyre specification of a competitor.

17. Information concerning a competitor's likely race strategy.

18. Safety car window.

19. Driving breaches by team driver or competitor, e.g. missing chicanes, running off track, time penalty will be applied etc.

20. Notification that DRS is enabled or disabled.

21. Dealing with a DRS system failure.

22. Change of front wing position at the next pitstop.

23. Oil transfer.

24. When to enter the pits.

25. Reminders to check for white lines, bollards, weighbridge lights when entering or leaving the pits.

26. Reminders about track limits.

27. Passing on messages from race control.

28. Information concerning damage to the car.

29. Number of laps remaining.

30. Test sequence information during practice sessions, e.g. aero-mapping.

31. Weather information.

From this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix the FIA has imposed new regulations regarding clutch starts, with a further clampdown due to come into force from 2016.

At present a car is allowed to pull away from the grid via the use of two clutches, and while two will still be allowed in the car for 2016, only one can be used for a start itself, ahead of a standardised clutch being introduced in 2017.

9ee062 No.18484

>>18483

Maybe if the FIA wants the driver to drive unaided they should take out some of the complications/gimmicks that make heavy radio communication necessary, namely the cheese tires and hybrid powertrains.

The effect of changes to the start procedure remain to be seen but imo the best case scenario right now is all the cars get away and there are no serious accidents. Hopefully we don't look back wistfully on the current clutch system; that article is wrong and there's only one physical clutch so I don't see the point of standardizing it.

Looking at the different wing philosophies the teams are following, the Renault teams obviously need to run an anorexic rear wing to not get mugged in sector 1 and 3.

But what is surprising is that Mercedes also feel the need to run a specialized low drag wing, so they are worried about Ferrari and probably Williams too. They didn't need to do this last year, was such the level of their confidence on power alone.

I think it's more of a confirmation that Renault are definitely going to be buying Lotus and coming back as a works team. So unless they, like you said, bring in an outside engine manufacturer, they would be a customer team regardless. Might as well be a customer of the best engine, I guess.

Seems like Renault wants to put more focus on their works team and RB are mad that they wouldn't be the main focus anymore

I understand banning Mercedes to stop them for getting ahead too much, but Honda, Renault and to a certain extent Ferrari should be able to do some testing to understand their engine better. Honestly, process of diminishing returns defeats the point of that. The more you refine any one part of the car, the more expensive it is per unit improvement. It's basically not possible to make a car that is substantially faster than the others unless there's development limitations (like the restrictive formula and token system) or a massive design rethink.

The really wacky part is that in this era of banned testing, teams have to spend more time in the wind tunnel instead of doing straight line and other tests at the base or test track. It costs more to not test than it does to test.

Ferrari botched s2 for faster sector 1 and 3. Vettel and Raikkonen should have a fairly fun task of overtaking a lot of cars. I think 3rd might be on the cards specially if it rains, but on the dry, it depends how quickly they can get past Williams and Force India.

Ricciardo is the true wildcard here, he can make some magic happen if he can get a good start. His podium depends on clearing the Williams as quickly as possible.

M8 you aren't seriously implying that it's Valtteri's fault. They set up the chassis with far too much downforce, which is odd considering they hardly have any

ha! I was just working on that last night. I came to the same conclusion thinking about curry steam condensing on my windows. Also I found a stubout under the floor so I can put in a gas range and you can't use gas range with a ductless unless you like carbon monoxide.

I'm running it up through the ceiling, the attic, and out a roof vent. The way that old part of the house was built it's been a job and a half. Plus there's the old blown-in rock wool up there that likes to choke the air with dust and get down my buttcrack
