This is sad, he deserves a better end to his career. I can see not wanting to join another team and have a Villeneuve-like slide down the midfield but in reality the McHonda is worse than midfield at the moment. A race under changeable conditions is his best bet of netting a podium, but last year in Japan he did everything right to make it to 3rd with a Merc engine and it still wasn't enough to keep the Red Bulls behind. We all know the car would break down if he got in a good position like that again.

Kobayashi is a Toyota guy so that's probably not going to happen. It'll probably be some sort of intense behind the scenes battle as to whether K-Mag or Vandoorne get the seat alongside Alonso and the loser gets assigned as reserve.
