Hey guys, figured I'd throw this up here. Here's a few "Discussion Questions".

Ferrari or Mercedes?

Another win for Ferrari, or will Mercedes not drop their spaghetti? I think we could consider Ferrari a serious contender once again. China's "distinct Tilke style" is configured with plenty of long straights which may favor Ferrari's focus on straight line speed. The only difference is Tire Management. Malaysia displayed extremely high track temperatures of up to 60 degrees Celsius. Chances are China will not provide the same advantage for Ferrari, as track temperatures are at least expected to be lower. I personally wouldn't get too suprised if we see Hamilton or Rosberg passing the finish line first.

Raikkonen for a podium? A win?

As may be noticed by now, I'm somewhat of a Raikkonen fan, so these past couple of races (for me) have been a bit disheartening, given the bad luck he's been experiencing. However, if everything goes well this weekend, I think Raikkonen can seriously contend for at least a podium, given that his race pace compares somewhat favorably to Vettel.

Williams down the tubes? Potential challenge from Lotus?

I think its obvious by now that Williams are revealing their true colors : "Wontiums." The have a severe loss in race pace compared to both Ferrari and Mercedes. Whilst this speaks poorly for themselves, I think that Lotus, a team which has gained the most pace (around 5 seconds) since last year, can seriously go for a challenge if the stars aligned. The only limitation is their drivers. Maldonado we have not seen much from this year, whereas Grosjean seriously underperformed last race, failing to pass the much slower car of Nico Hulkenberg. What do you guys think?

Mclaren to gain more pace?

I don't like Ron Dennis, and I don't like all the Mclaren bias in the UK, but it seems that they've been gaining some pace. At one point, Alonso claimed he was in 8th, challenging the Red bulls (given the fact he was on faster/newer tires than his Renault-powered counterparts.) I, like many others, will be watching Project4 racing to see if they've hatched any extra horsepower in their car this race.

I open this discussion up to you guys!

Claims are that mercedes engines were running detuned (which could explain some pace loss) and that they will be back to full power in china.

Well there was the other time in 2009 after Melbourne

>7.15pm: The crew had a team meeting. Button, Brawn and their engineers analysed the victory. Jessica, meanwhile, was waiting in a white mini dress with a glass of champagne

>8pm: Finally the meeting was done. “Where is my girlfriend?” Button asked his team. According to the team, his eyes were "only for Jessica."
>The model ran to him and he picked her up grinning and carried her off to the team office - apparently for a saucy romp.
>He shut the door, only to quickly open it again to throw out an employee.
>8.10pm: Button and Jessica reappeared ten minutes later, grinning from ear to ear.
>Button told curious press and fans: “It got a bit steamy in there!”
>Jessica told BILD: “He was so excited!”

Also Branson tried to chat her up at Melbourne and Jenson nearly got into a fist fight with him. This was just after Virgin had signed a sponsorship deal with brawn so it was nearly a major issue.

In terms F1 non-PG stories I guess Kamui is the most recent one but it's really sad.
After getting dumped by Sauber he suffered some form of depression racing in GT and cheated on his fiance, Yu Abiru, with Japanese pornstar Tina Yuzuki (Stage name Rio) and some other women
Yu Abiru left him and married a kickboxer.

Or at least this is what I can get out of google translate and the many Japanese articles I find.

373df1 No.2225

>>2224
this is fascinating. The Kamui story is a bummer. Idk how he has such an eclectic cast of friends and acquaintances. I think Kamui can get back into F1 if he really performs well in super formula. He's still young enough.

Oh shit, that reminds me of how severely Heikki Kovalainen let me down 2 years ago. He had this chance after a year of not getting paid (or nearly so) to fix the huge set up issues with the Caterham, and in what was then the second fastest car on the grid, failed to score points twice.

Kamui has a deal with Toyota as a test and development driver for their LMP1 car.
I can easily see Kamui being a guy who just wants to race as fast as he can. As far as I'm aware super formula is still faster than IndyCar and is still the fastest single seater series outside of F1.
Going from F1 to GT racing must have just been soul crushing. Especially after getting a podium at your home grand prix and only just being a few points behind your teammate who went to one the biggest name in F1.
In terms of who he hangs around with, People are easily attracted to speed and formula 1.

Lotus were just idiots for those last two races. If they were really worried about their championship position and didn't trust Davide Valsecchi (he had driven the car and that is what you employ him for) to do it then they should have got someone better than Heikki. Schumi surely must have been available.

>>2227
It's slightly more socially acceptable and is more of an accepted career path.
IIRC a lot J-pop stars do it and not because they are particularly failing and want to try and cash in on their career but it's just what you do.

I know that Lotus actually did call up Schumacher, and he declined. I don't know how Heikki fucked up so badly, I really don't. I don't think Valsecchi was so fucking amazing (esp in feeder series) that he would have done that much better, but I also thought Heikki could have gotten a podium.

Super Formula is vastly underrated as a series. The cars are nearly as fast as F1 (see vid) and it is more technical than GP2 or Formula Renault. They post tons of content online in english for free. I hate spec series, but this is seriously better than indycar. For whatever reason, it's not taken seriously as a feeder series.

If some up and coming driver goes over to compete that doesn't make the series look better.
It has to be someone being plucked out of the series and proving they are competitive on the big stage that will make people pay attention.

Look at the top Japanese drivers currently:
>Kamui - Never done Super Formula before this year
>Sato - First race was in 2012
>Nakajima - First race was in 2011

None of them did superformula during their junior career.

Someone will eventually take a gamble on some Japanese talent from the series and it will work and after the 550+ GPs Japan will finally have a winner in F1.

Hoping Raikkonen can get a clean weekend. His pace in Malaysia was hugely impressive, and even he is confident Ferrari can put a strong show in China. Kimi doesn't say much so his confidence fills me with hope. I'll go for a cheeky 2nd for Ferrari here. Mercedes should be very strong here, with almost Australia like conditions but with more smog, but I think they can get at least one of the Mercs on pace or the stops.

Jenson was saying McLaren gonna struggle with the cooler temps. I was a bit perplexed with that as the colder air means denser air so it should in theory be better for aero as there is more air mass to work with and the engine can stay cooler.
>McLaren-Honda
>Working in theoretically better conditions.

I hope Williams can stay closer to the Red machines this time, that monster sector 1 and 3 should help them negate the deficit they have in the aero sector 2.

Bernie says he wants 3 races in the US because it's an underserved F1 market. There have been ~9 locations that have hosted it in the past

USGP: Watkins Glen
USGPWest: Long Beach

What should the 3rd one be? Detroit has had it in the past and is in the midwest which doesnt have a race, and it's the motor city. Austin has it now, but it's kind of tilke and has no history. Road America makes sense, Sebring makes sense, Dallas makes sense. There are plenty of other places, but can you think of another one that serves the center of the country.

339fe6 No.2367

You can't.

All of the tracks we've mentioned would need at the very least their infrastructure revamping i.e pull down every building in sight and rebuild it.
None of them host any international series so can't really cater to the amount of people who go to them.
Watkins Glen has started to become inappropriate for NASCAR and they are updating it on safety grounds.

This is an old list but it shows the FIA graded circuits:
http://www.fpak.pt/sites/default/files/competicoes/todas/_homologacoes/2259-circuitos_licenciados_fia_2013.pdf

Grade 1 is okay for an F1 race. Grade 1T is okay for an F1 test.
After that the grades drop quickly down series size.

I'm a pretty big opponent of the FIA track standards, what they did to the track in mexico this year was criminal.

There are provisions against cambered or banked corners in those rules, yet indianapolis was allowed until recently. The axe of not enough run off was nearly swung at even todays gimped spa.

The rules are not consistently applied. If we cant get those rules repealed, cant we get the same treatment that the noncomplying-but-we-paid-bernie-a-lot-of-money tracks?

m8 Peraltada was never in a million years going to be used in it's original form.
You can't put enough run off in (runoff for a banked corner will lead to flipping anyway) as there is a major road behind the corner.
You can't bring the corner in as the baseball stadium and pits are there.
If you used the corner it would be a completely blind turn in. In the old days you could see the inside, now with the baseball stadium and the inner wall it's blind. If someone had spun out or broke down and was on the inside line you wouldn't know until you hit them.

When CART/ChampCar raced at Mexico it ran through the baseball stadium.
A series which ran on ovals was unwilling to use that corner on safety grounds. F1 was never going to use it.

Old tracks which are still on the calendar get away with breaking the rules on circuit design (Monaco does not adhere to any rules at all) because they are historic.
The FIA know they can't just remove Eau Rouge even if it doesn't comply with circuit regulations and would never be allowed on a new track.

>>2371
It's actually quite a remote circuit with the only roads to it being narrow.
Also it's very close to Monaco (if it was on the calendar they would be the closest two tracks) and scheduling it so that you maximise ticket sales would be a pain. It would have to be the last european round.
Also Bernie isn't going to be willing to put any form of money into hosting a race. He wants other people to do it for him.

Problem is, it ended with a LOT of spaghetti. Legitimately that goodnight kiss probably could've filled the Arecibo radio telescope to the brim with piping hot spaghetti. Which I mean I guess isn't that much of a big deal considering she still said it was the best date she's ever been on. She's a few years older than I am and an incredibly laid back artist type. It's only on the oval which CART use for the Rio 200.

Only turn 1 & 4 were banked so you got some proper speed through turn 2 and down the back straight to turn 3 which was also flat out.
Because it was used by turn 3 for the road circuit as well it had kerbing on the inside as well.
So you tried to cut it to gain a bit of time. Eventually you would fuck it up, the rear end would spin out at top speed and on the outside is a solid concrete wall next to the track.

out of the three Beijing street circuits the Formula E one was the best.

The A1 GP one (in red) was actually impossible with the hairpin being too tight for the cars to take (built on a dual carriageway). During the practise session they got mid corner and stopped to do a three point turn.
They redesigned it over night and shortened the straight massively and used the pit entry as run off to allow the corner to be wide enough.

The bottom one was used for SuperLeague Formula and had one of the worst chicanes ever.

I…I also like Monaco. a lot. in terms of spectacle/scenery/history, it's impossible for me to miss. The images of these VEE 6 BEASTZ tearing round the narrow ass casino streets is unparalleled in 2015. Passing is completely extinct there, but I still can't stop watching.

It's also the beginning of the holiest day in motorsports for me:

6:30am- Monaco
11am- Indy 500
5:30pm- Coca Cola 600

I can barely comprehend the hype. Favorite day of the year, hands down.
