Same as the constant bitching about track limits.

>Go watch old races, they abused them all the time, and no one cared

8c604b No.6839

>>6838

I actually suspect that's because if you abused them in the past, you likely collided with a wall, whereas now (since track limits are often painted lines) you can actually get an advantage because of the increased run off area that has been added bc muh safety

591033 No.6840

>>6839

That modern bitching was nothing but a way to make Vettel a pantomime villain.

At about 2:10:

>Worth pointing out that Sebastian Vettel is on the freshest tyres here after he pitted on lap 34

>Worth pointing to that he was all 4 tyres off the track again in this race

It was like 2 fucking inches out of stavelot and literally everyone else did it.

How did I know it would be Croft saying that.

>Legard now does the football league show highlights

He fucks up highlights as well. Or maybe I just find his voice so annoying.

Thank god he is too high billing to do league 2 games so I don't have to hear him commentate my team.

Apparently Alonso's brake problem today was caused by a visor tear-off getting into the brake duct.

It reminded me of this much funnier incident.

>oooh oooh oooh aaaaoow

the syphillitic flooded bomb crater of NBC commentary

591033 No.10487

>>10481

I noticed the same.

It's a lot like the shit-tier commentary we have in local Aust series.

It reminds me of some advice I heard once about making a YouTube video (not that I make them), in that if you first word is "Um", you've failed as a video maker.

And if you're reaction to an incident as a motorsport commentator is to "ohhh" or "ahhh", instead of actually communicating what's happening with words, then you've failed as a commentator.

dat HANS device

60d0e7 No.11183

>>11179

And yet, despite this advancement, we've fucked up the entire sport bc of senna feels

0fc02f No.11192

>>11183

F1 didn't invent the HANS device (it was invented much earlier than Senna's death) and it only got mandatory in 2003.

Before that the FIA were trying out some airbag project instead.

116612 No.11197

>>11192

Where did he say that F1 invented HANS?

also, what the fuck? Airbags in a racing car? An open wheeler no less?

They should just turn it into bumper cars then, so people can make retard moves like verstappen at Monaco, or takagi's crash with Luca badoer, without any risk and it'll be even more of a shitshow.

0fc02f No.11200

>>11197

It just sounded a bit like he was implying. Blame my 2am autism.

I just re-checked and in fact it was Mercedes Benz themselves who started developing an airbag system for F1 cars.

They joined a meeting between Charlie Whiting and Hubbard Downing Inc (the company who made HANS) and started a partnership to make a HANS device small enough to fit in an F1 car.

They got an old crash tested HANS device from Hubbard and tested it against their air bag and it proved to be as good and so they abandoned the air bag in 1998.

116612 No.11201

>>11200

I would say predictably so. Pretensioners work just about as well as airbags with vastly lower cost, difficulty of installation, and some methods are reusable. Of course the gubmint knows best.

Found the research paper and got a preview

They were properly serious about this as an option

116612 No.11204

>>11203

At least Hans protects you from your head going sideways, this does nothing for that.

0fc02f No.11206

>>11204

An F1 HANS system doesn't stop side to side movement but instead they just have the polystyrene insert around their neck.

They didn't bother trying to make side to side support as they knew they could redesign an F1 cockpit and put in the polystyrene padding to minimise it and so focused on forward motion.

I imagine they would have done similar here but still it is mad.

116612 No.11209

>>11206

Grr. The super high sidepods and toilet seat-esque inserts make low profile cars impossible and it looks like crap… What a shame.

Vettel really does have excellent throttle control.

Watch the throttle %, and listen to the engine.

By the time you can hear the revs quickly increase when it wheelspins, he's already backed off.

>his throttle control is why he raped Webber in the blown diffuser car

I'll point out that Merhi is the idiot who slowed down to a crawl, not the idiot who didn't notice a slow moving car.

0fc02f No.16733

>>16732

It's actually quite easy to hit a slowing car like that through a combo of misjudging how slow it is going/fast you are going & mentally focusing further up the road than what it is immediately in front of you.

4f41b4 No.16734

>>16732

yes, why would you even slow down like that on the finish line, if you want to let someone get past you you could've done that over the whole last lap

d7cece No.16789

>>16732

>>16730

>>16731

>>16733

>>16734

Here's the thing, if you watch Nicholas Latifi, he was racing for 5th place and didn't want to lose his position. He can't block the other driver or push him off as per rules, so he ends up crashing into Merhi. He had to pay attention to Tom Dillmann as well who he was racing. This just shows Merhi was being a fucking moron and he doesn't deserve the Manor seat.

Especially since he pulled that "dindunuffin" shit later.
