FUCK YEAH

>WILLIAMS CONFIRMS SUSIE WOLFF TO RETIRE FROM MOTORSPORT

>Williams can confirm that following four successful years with the team, Susie Wolff will retire from competitive motorsport at the end of the 2015 season.

>Since being appointed as Development Driver in April 2012, Susie has worked closely with the team over the years before being promoted to Official Test Driver in 2015. Her role has seen her play a big part in the development of the FW35, FW36 and FW37 through extensive simulator work alongside getting behind the wheel for straight line aerodynamic tests and during numerous test days.

>This culminated in her driving the FW36 during FP1 at the 2014 British and German Grands Prix, becoming the first female driver to drive in a Grand Prix weekend for two decades.

>Speaking on her recent news Susie said: “I’d like to thank Williams for the opportunity they have given me over the last few years which has allowed me to achieve my dream of driving a Formula 1 car. It has been great to work with everyone at the team, both at Grove and trackside, and I’d like to thank everyone who has been part of my journey at Williams. I am now closing this chapter but looking forward to new challenges in the future.”

>Claire Williams, Deputy Team Principal commented: “It has been a pleasure to work with Susie over the years and see her develop as a driver within the team. Her feedback and knowledge of the car has been an important part our recent development and we will be sorry to see her go. We want to thank her for all her efforts and wish her the very best for her future endeavours. We will of course be supporting both Susie and Felipe at the Race of Champions, and hope Susie has a great weekend to mark the last time we see her race.”

how would this save money? they would just be running a zillion expensive prototype parts in FP1

I have more than the disposable income to do this.

The current computer is shit and doesn't met my gaming/work/WAG requirements.

But every single time I finish choosing out parts and I figure out where I'd get everything from I freeze.

I umm and ahh, I ignore it and ultimately it gets to the end of the day.

I close the link and I tell myself I'll buy it all tomorrow.

I never do.

I should be happy that I'm not a trigger happy on the purse strings when it comes to purchases for myself but it makes me feel terrible.

But really do it, perfect time, the new gen of intel has come out, the current gen of Nvidia cars is amazing(fuck ATI seriously a friend bought one of those and the fans fell of… FELL OFF), ram is cheaper than never(DDR3 at least but why buy DDR3 when DDR4 is out and almost as cheap), SSDs are cheap too.

I had a million problems with them and they didn't perform up to the level of intel or nvidia.

I wish Mexibro but it would be a work related purchase so I could try and convince myself to splurge a bit. Still I would get to that point and just be like ehhhhhhhhhhhhh…welll…

It's bad because I'll think about spending money on other people long, long before myself even when it is pretty obvious it needs to happen or I'm clearing just being silly.

I mean for fuck sake I've had ideas of spending money on you. I don't know what but I've had the though go through my head that if you seriously asked and it wasn't ridiculous I would not immediately say no.

Like buying you a pizza or something.

I had a dream the other night where I was at the Williams hospitality and I got Emilia, Valtteri, Massa, Susie, Claire & Gemma Fisher to all sign a Williams baseball cap. And I got Emilia to write "To Mexibro" on the brim. And when I got home I put it in a custom wooden box and wrote you a nice little note.

I then got you to tell me somehow where you lived (without telling you what it was) and it was such a nice dream because at the end of it, you posted a thank you post and you were so happy, that it was like you were a 6 year old who had been told that every present under the tree was his.

AMD won't go bankrupt, they have the console market to themselves. Pretty sure they can live until at least the end of this console gen just by banking the profits of their APUs.

For a desktop AMD GPUs are not necessarily a bad choice. But if you want a decent laptop, which is slowly becoming the norm given how fast and efficient modern components are, AMD sucks. Performance wise they are behind what Nvidia does and their GPU switching tech is worse than cancer. Not that Optimus is perfect, far from that, but at least it works.

>Less well known is that Hellmund, whose late father was a member of the organising team when Mexico returned to the F1 calendar in the 80s, was also instrumental in the revival of the track and race for 2015 and beyond.

>"Mexico was always part of the plan when I cut the deal with Bernie for Austin", he told the Austin American Statesman newspaper.

>And now the American F1 broadcaster NBC reports that Hellmund is working on a new project, possibly tying in with Ecclestone's claim last week that he might add a second US race to the calendar "California way".

>Not only that, it emerges that, joining John Booth and Graeme Lowdon in the exodus from Manor is Bob Bell, who has been working as a consultant.

>That could tie in with the Guardian's claim that it is Hellmund who is looking to buy into the British backmarker.

>>28134

I assume that was a typo because the circuit was shortened in 1989.

The last F1 race held on the long circuit was in 1980 and they were going to host in 1981 but complaints and protest from the drivers (including Jody Schekter) about safety concerns and the quality of the circuit meant they moved to Jacarepaguá. Also Nelson Piquet was from Rio and had just won 3 races and finished 2nd in the championship so for Brazil and F1 it made more financial sense to go to Jacarepaguá in Rio as more fans would turn up.

A lot of the concerns were about the track surface and the amount of bumps which to be fair in a ground effect car is a much bigger problem.

Once F1 left the only races held on the circuit were the sports car races. Then in 1989 they paid $15 million to update and shorten the circuit to try and bring F1 back. That timed really well for Brazil and F1 with the rise of Senna who was of course from Sao Paulo. Just as with Piquet it made financial sense to piggy back off the success of a local driver.

There were a number of proposals all of which used the old turn 1 and 2

Oh and it was also shortened so it would meet the FIA new restrictions on track length

b26ff0 No.28137

>>28135

I lifted "1979" from the wiki page, it must have been a typo.

The fia restrictions on track length are arbitrary and stupid. They were instituted for massive tracks like the nurburgring where access to medical facilities would be difficult, but clearly a long circuit with modern facilities and access roads does not have that problem. The initial track safety complaints that the gpda had (for most circuits) centered around improperly installed armco, poor marshalling, medical facilities, and poor track surface. None of those complaints (many of which still surface even with the shortened tracks (Brazil was recently in the spotlight for having to be resurfaced)) are incompatible with a long circuit.

Though for the purpose of racing it could be argued a circuit being shorter and therefore having more laps is better.

A good overtaking spot on a shorter lap would allow drivers more opportunities for overtakes. I'd say that is part of the reason why Canada and Interlagos have produced more interesting racing over some of their longer circuit counterparts though other factors are obviously influential given you have Spa at 7km which is good and the A1/Red Bull ring which is 4km and hasn't produced the best.

Given that Spa was shortened not too long before the Interlagos revamp I'm going to have a guess that the circuit length thing is about 7km as that is what I can find in the current FIA books (though it is only a recommendation). Which meant they only really had get rid of 1 km.

Personally I wouldn't have done what the proposals suggested (cut out curve de sol and install chicane) and instead would have got rid of the two hairpin style corners. That seems like the more obvious thing to do.

It must be said that a shorter circuit will always be cheaper to run than a longer one. Less land to buy or lease (or however it works), less barriers to buy/repair/maintain, less marshals to hire, less track to maintain, less world beating drainage to build…etc

One of the main reasons Hockenheimring was shrunk was that and given the money situation in Brazil especially during the late 80's/early 90's I can imagine trying to get rid of as much overhead as possible was vital.

0b863a No.28142

That happened already though. F1 used circuit layout #6 for the last 4 races. and if they went back there they would probably just stick with it.

Circuit #15 (The long one) still exists but I don't think anything has raced on it for quite awhile.

If they were to go to the Argies they would either do a street circuit or race at Río Hondo which has an FIM grade 1 and is probably not far off an FIA grade 1. It would be utter shit but it is what they would.

Though Tilke also has to contend with Bernie and his desire for a product to sell.

I don't personally believe that the fact that all of his circuits fall around 5.5Km in length and a 1:35.000 lap is solely down to just a lack on inspiration or constriction of the rulebook.

Bernie will prefer a reliable 1.5 hour long event to sell to TV networks. He will prefer it to be that long so as to better attract sponsors. He will prefer a 1:35.000 lap time as it is long enough to display sponsors but short enough to just drop into the sport section of the news as a nice highlight.

I'm sure I could come up with more but I think Bernie has a lot more input to track design then we know. He has control of the TV broadcasts/angles and he will certainly want some control of the circuit design.

Silverstone's history isn't even that amazing either.

It's just a heap of runways in a paddock, that never even held a motor race until 1947.

The funny thing is manufacturers didn't always have leasing programs or financing. If you wanted to buy a car you bought it outright. This is a perfectly viable model too, especially because you don't get the loss of prestige associated with poor people/shitheads driving your cars.
