So to kick things off (and for my first post in a couple of months, still lurk, love you all) my family had drinkies with the Italian consul this evening and some very interesting things were said involving Alfa and an F1 operation.

Just thought you might like this extra level of credence to the rumors going around, since it has been reported as "rumored" or "suggested" in the media in the last week.

>welp, thanks 2015, the niggers won, it's over friends.

It's alright Han will save it all in the sequel.

To give my truly honest opinion:

Like I said it was 'alright' but I wouldn't say anything more. A lot of fan service in what is basically a HD remake of A New Hope. I mean for fuck sake they had a trench run on the new SUPER DEATH STAR.

Plus points is that the aerial battles looked fucking cool and the music was good. Whoever plays the pilot who is basically just the new Wedge is also great. The 'New Order' imagery looks cool as well.

Downsides: Humour was quite a bit forced and started to get into prequel territory. Over use of old lines and at certain points I couldn't help going "Dear god what the hell is /pol/ going to say about this".

If you liked how Spectre was with regard to the bond franchise then I think you will like this.

Actually you know what thinking about it, no, I'm going to spoil some more. There is some stupid parts of the story:
It starts out with the "New order" landing on Jakku (totally not Tatooine) to find the map to show where luke is. A guy hides it in the ball droid(never heard that one before) before getting captured. Black guy as a stormtrooper shows up and from just one of his fellow troopers dying and smearing blood on his helmet it manages to break his 22 years of stormtrooper developmental programming. This is a guy who was raised from birth to be a stormtrooper and never had a name (He is called finn because of his tag:FN-2187). He then can't kill a group of people when order to kill. Later on we find out he was actually a sanitation guy. Which begs the fucking question:WHY THE FUCK WAS HE PART OF THE GROUP RETRIEVING THE MOST VITAL FUCKING INTEL IN THE GALAXY?

Ignoring that, the owner of the droid (Who is Poe the 'best fighter in the resistance') gets tortured to find the hidden map (Again totally original) in the new super star destroyer. He has to get transferred from his cell block and out of sheer coincidence it is the black guy in charge of transferring him. Black guy ask him to help escape and they steal a tie together. WHEN THE FUCK DID THE SANITATION GUY GET PUT IN CHARGE OF PRISONERS?

Long story short they get shot down back on to Jakku and through a clunky scene the girl, black guy and ball droid end up stealing the Millennium Falcon and not even 2 minutes later does Han and Chewie turn up out of fucking nowhere. I'll summarize the scene:

*Tie doing a bombing run on the town. Heroes running to find transport as shit blows up*

Girl: We can out run them if we get that quad speeder

Black guy: What about that ship? *Pointing off screen*

Girl: That is garbage

*Tie swoops past and blows up the ship they were going to*

Girl: Garbage will do fine!!

*Camera pans to Millennium Falcon as a fanfare happens*

A lot of it is like that.

Han, Chewie and black guy capture chrome plate stormtrooper so she can disable the shields on the MEGA SUPER ULTRA DEATH STAR THAT DEPLETES AN ENTIRE SUN (Why is this only a single button press that can be done from any console? Like that is a fucking major oversight)

Black guy: What are we going to do with her?

Han: Have you get a waste chute we can put her in? A "trash compactor"?

Black guy: Oh yeah it does

I swear they almost wink at the camera saying that
http://en.f1i.com/magazine/37045-my-biggest-race-roberto-moreno.html

>Andretti almost got an F1 seat in 1990

A serious what if.

0dcf0d No.31360

>>31305

yes, but brundle deserves no such respect. Also walkinshaw was not a particularly good manager by the time he was running arrows. Certainly TWR and Jaguar sport were hugely impressive, but when he ran arrows he kept doing overly ambitious shit (hiring Brian Hart to make a works engine exclusively for arrows e.g.) and then firing people and changing strategy before that strategy had matured. Hell, if they had soldiered on with Yamaha engines after Judd reworked them and Ron Tauranac reworked the chassis, that might have even been viable.

>>31358

Excellent article. Kind of interesting how before there were so few teams and such restrictive contracts there was a much more fluid drivers market. Moreno, Lehto, Salo, and de cesaris became super substitutes that could kick ass with no testing time.

Nelson Piquet saved moreno's career by vouching for him.

>Andretti almost got an F1 seat in 1990

>A serious what if.

in 1986, haas lola wanted mario andretti to sub for the detroit gp after tambay's crash. Mario wouldnt do it, and he encouraged them to seek michael. An agreement was reached but they couldn't get michael a super license in time.

They chose eddie cheever (shit driver) instead.

additionally in 1992, when Ivan Capelli was underperforming at ferrari, ferrari wanted a mid season replacement and had talks with Nelson Piquet and Michael Andretti. They advanced to a very serious level before Piquet's indy crash made that a moot point. Unclear why it didnt happen with andretti, but you have to realize that both Carl Haas and the ferrari team had such a good relationship with mario, that they would have been far more favorable and less hostile environments for michael than Mclaren was.

Ostensibly the reason they went with the retarded front drive hybrid transaxle system is to make the car's rear hollow. This was to make downforce without a wing. If the rear crash structure needs to be beefed up, it may no longer be able to be so conducive to airflow.

I think it's more over:

a) not calling off the race

b) not reacting to Sutil's crash with an S.C. or red flag

c) no medical helicopter

d) sham investigation

though I agree the ultimate responsibility lies with Jules, it sorta makes sense that the two shittiest cars in the race (Marussia and Sauber) went off. the race was going to end when conditions deteriorated beyond what was considered reasonable and racers gonna race, so it was up to race control to make that judgement call and I'd say in hindsight they put it off too long. none of the drivers made a stand by parking their car (Lauda Japan 1976 and Prost Australia 1989 come to mind), though probably only a WDC can get away with that.

the race went ahead because of bernie shekels and TV contracts, then the teams were obligated to participate then the drivers had to race etc. no race, no chance for accidents. not interrupting the 'hip battle was probably a big reason too, even though that ended up being a bit pointless when the result was just another HWL 1-2 finish.

I agree on the team formerly known as Marussia parking it since they have nothing to fight for points-wise but there's likely a lot of pressure on the top drivers not to "give up" when they're one team employee vs. the hundreds of others at the factory plus business interests. Louis can't even manage his own tire strategy in the race without handholding, I can't imagine him making a bold decision like that.

At larger displacements each marginal gain in horsepower will be larger as engine efficiency out of the box will be less. Aka small displacement will fuck up the development race.

Idk why you would legislate engine configuration and number of cylinders. Plus, It's pretty clear at this point that the hybrid side of things is adding more to cost, unreliability, and crap racing (by way of padding the power curve) that it needs to be left behind.

Your argument is entirely predicated on the idea that hybrid systems are the future and somehow make internal combustion in its pure form out moded.

Real average fuel economy in passenger cars hasn't improved with the advent of mild and strong hybrid systems. Some amount of that is due to regulation, but it's silly to say that hybrid systems have a monopoly on the future when they aren't particularly efficient.

Hybrids are literally the worst of both worlds. You have the enormous complexity of two different drivetrains, the requirement of repeated energy conversion (which is always the least efficient part), dramatic gains in weight, and huge decrease in reliability and powertrain life due to the batteries, complexity of the system, and fundamentally inferior service life of electric and electronic equipment compared to the mechanical components of a piston engine.

Not to mention that the environmental cost of manufacturing the batteries and motors (which require non ecologically friendly rare earth minerals) far exceeds the questionable benefits of the marginal to nonexistent gains in fuel economy.

Moreover in grand prix racing, where simplicity and weight loss in addition to packaging are necessitous to victory, why on earth would the ungainly disaster of hybrids even be talked about save for todt's fetish for them?

This is no different to claiming you're on the "right side" of history.

VHS beat betamax and the world is no poorer for it. There is no case to be made for forcibly legislating this unmitigated disaster of a concept on motorsport. Especially when motorsport is about escapism.

1. That was bad too, for reasons other than the fact that the v8s were heavily limited in development

2. Kers was limited to being a finite amount of boost controlled by a button and unthrottlable

To reiterate, kers was not an improvement, and certainly not the way forward, it just sucked less than what we have now, and the vast majority of people were not concerned about it as the cars still sounded alright and the racing was mediocre as opposed to terrible.

how can you say that when direct injection, camless engines, homogenous charge compression ignition, cylinder head geometry, and engine metallurgy (to name a few) are seeing huge gains. not to mention the multiplicative gains from execution of these technologies in concert with eachother.

gasoline and certainly race fuel are far more energy dense, lighter, and much more easily refilled/stored/converted than any electrical battery arrangement.

Motorsport might be about escapism to you, But you don't matter. The money does.

>And the money cares about marketing and image. And that means clean and green hybrids.

yet bernie sees more value in rolex and johnnie walker as ambassador brands than much more popular/cheaper and less exclusive sponsors. This coupled with a refusal to go free to air across the board and/or offer direct streaming means that bernie has no interest in following the pack even if it means a wider base of clientele.

and bmw is a near luxury brand that feels threatened by "the apple of cars" in tesla. of course that a company that was formerly boutique and alienated its customer base needs to copy the flavor of the week.

General motors tried to do this against the imports when they continued to downsize in the 80s– it didnt work. import buyers bought imports, and buyers of traditional american cars bought fords instead.

Can't tell if making a joke about ted-these-engines-dont-have-sparkplugs-Kravitz.

Indeed camless engines (either with fully pneumatic valves, or with electromagnetic actuation) are viable, but the current engines use a camshaft to actuate valve opening, and compressed gas to close them.

I'm with Button on the new rules not changing anything. Ted/Sky are pretending the pick-your-compound system will make it more likely that a team will go for one-stop strategies compared to the current ruleset. Like I said before, the more I think about this it's clear that the teams will actually have less choice in the new system since there are now two sets out of the twelve (thirteen with the Q3 set) that can only be used during the race.

Not going to make any bold predictions here on exactly what the teams are going to do choice-wise (unlike Sky). Just saying that any team that puts in 5/3/2 SS/S/M has to be pretty desperate for a good quali performance and then try to one-stop the race. But of course that strategy wouldn't be possible because they'd have to start the race on super softs and two-stop it with both reserved compounds like their video shows… which is going to change nothing.

d810f0 No.31690

>>31689

The problem with the "different choices/tactics" argument, is that the teams will do computer simulations and will all find the same fastest scenario.

Only retarded teams like Williams will get it wrong, and only desperate retarded teams like Sauber will do a different strat.

e05135 No.31691

>>31690

Yes. Different strategies wont be picked unless the cars are different enough that they have different strengths and weaknesses.
