If it was blue, not red, it was to hold the diffuser up.
One of the Porsche's broke the diffuser mounts, and used a rachet strap on either side to hold it up.
One of them eventually snapped, forcing them to pit to remove it.
The other one eventually ripped off a huge chunk of diffuser, and and threw it off to the wall on the oval before they made it back to the pits.

You just can't say no can you Claire.
The moment they close that door and your own your own with Horner, Wolff and Arrivabene you just can't tell them to stop.
We all know it, It's simple, you want it.
All those days spent on your back in the dormitories at St Mary's. What the other girls did to you. What the teachers did to you. It changes your mind, your inhibitions, your pleasures. It changes you.
Of course you didn't like. You didn't think you were like the other girls. You weren't going to make a living lying down. You're a Williams. You've got a reputation to uphold and a father to impress.
So you hid that side of you when you went to Uni. You focused yourself to try and impress your dad. You didn't get a boyfriend. You didn't go to the parties.
And it worked because Frank gave you the job…..What a silly man.
He made you press officer and you had to deal with all those slimy journalists looking for a story. They knew how to find your weak spots. That side of you that you buried away back in Uni? That side came streaming out the moment they invited you to a little after race drink.
You tried to be clever, you tried to play it cool and be like the big boys but it didn't matter. In the end you'd tell them the race strategy if they promised to treat you rough. Secrecy didn't matter, you needed that itch scratching. It's dumb luck they never found out what Nico got up to with that Jap fangirl in 06.
You had to suffer 8 years of that. Trying to make sure your dad never found out. But unfortunately for you he could easily see through all that shit. And when he realised it, he decided he would take a bit of the pie for himself. Even your own dad was reducing you to a no good fuck bunny.
Around that time you met Andrew. A fucking idiot of a man. No one figured out how he got through life. Couldn't even tie his own shoelace let alone be an engineer. Wore Velco for christ sake. Clearly you thought you could take advantage of this. A man who was too stupid to boss you around. A man you could dominate.
But even fucking Andrew had your measure. The moment you get off the phone with Frank about you becoming team principal, Andrew asks you for a promotion.
You tell him how many times you have had to cover his ass.
You tell how much of an embarrassment he is.
You try to tell him how you could fire him and end the relationship right there and then.
But you don't get to tell him that. Because Andrew grabs you round the neck and forces you over the kitchen counter.
He tells you he has had enough of your shit.
He tells you that you are going to give him that promotion.
He tells you that you will make him race engineer.
He then rips those clean crisp panties you have under that blue skirt and starts to tease you. Just like Mr Humphrey did back in year 5. You're wanting to struggle but Claire you are melting like chocolate. You're wanting to scream but all you can do is moan. The moment his fingers stop you are more than ready to say anything to make him start again. To make him reduce you to a quivering mess.
You give him that promotion and at that moment you go to the bottom rung of the proverbial ladder with your butt up in the air for any man to take. They ask for anything and you will give it to them with a little extra on the side.
Of course Andrew's new found attitude doesn't translate into skill. Being Pastor's race engineer and not knowing Spanish is a problem but he doesn't care. He knows he just has to man handle you and you will do anything he says.
So the next year you make him Massa's race engineer. To your horror Andrew manages to do even worse. A pole in Austria becomes 4th place.
So what do you do? You promote him to senior fucking performance engineer. The less said about 2015 the better.
So now we are back in the meeting room with Toto, Christian and Maurizio. You've got scuff marks on your knees, the mascara you put on specially is running, the lingerie you bought yourself for your birthday is in tatters and you stink of raw sex. They've just decided that they are going to need another strategy group meeting in a months time just to iron out the little details a bit more. They thank you for a being a good little girl and leave you to clean yourself up.
You make yourself a mental note not to wear any panties that day.

Just give me this and I'll be there for you. Whatever you fucking need, whenever you fucking need it. You need to me suck a guy off? I'll be on my fucking knees.
Please you've just got to give me forgiveness. If the family finds out. I mean if they find out I'm sitting here at 7am writing fucking smut in my underwear I'll be fucking done for.
You don't want me to go. You like me. I make the place nice. Okay sure I do some weird shit but I'm always there for you.
Be reasonable with me. It was only one story. There was only a tiny amount of sexual violence in it. Hardly anything really. It didn't hurt anybody did it? No.
You can't put me behind bars for that. I understand that this isn't how you wanted this new PC of mine to be used. Okay. And I accept that but it's so easy to get trapped into writing this shit.
I mean for fucks sake I'm doing it right now going over the top with this sorry ass apology. I'm trying to impress you and make you fucking laugh so that when I put my head on my pillow, I can sleep with the idea that I might have made someone smile. Even if it is a dirty, ungrateful, Mexican bastard like yourself.
I don't even know how I fucking got to this level. I was a fucking good kid. I had a girlfriend in primary school. We played with each other. She touched my dick, I touched hers.
I went to a good grammar school and it all went to fucking shit. my A-levels went to hell. I failed 3 times to do my oral exam for french. And then I get out and wind up stacking boxes for my dads company with only F1 to comfort me at the weekend.
You guys are like a second family to me. You can't throw me out like this. I CAN CHANGE.

With testing and the new season just a hop, skip and a jump away, who is that one driver you want to do well?
For me, with my favorite team being a certain red one, I really want Kimi to have a few good races, I doubt he could hold down a consistent season given last year but I hope sincerely that he can pull it together.
His curtains are slowly drawing down so I really hope he can get a few wins and produce a Kimi special at Spa too.

I'm rooting for Grosjean and the FreedomWagon-01… because someone has to. It would be nice to see Gimi get it together but I don't see what more it would take. Arguably he was walking into Alonso's team in 2014, but he was outperformed just as heavily by Vettel last year and the car was a drastic improvement. Generally it will be interesting to see how the more senior drivers (Button, Alonso, Gimi) do given that their cars are all expected to make a step forwards.

Haas would be a very interesting car with it basically being an SF-15T EVO. That car is podium material on paper, Grosjean can legitimately challenge with it. It will be also interesting to see just how much Williams have developed their own car. With RedBull again expecting not to have a top line engine again, it helps Grosjean pick off more points. Honda should be better, but I don't really expect them to challenge anything more than the midfield for the first half at least.

>My dear fans, I am writing to you with respect. As everyone knows in recent days have been a number of rumors about my immediate future in Formula One. It's been 23 years in the most exciting sports I started at a very young age, with the help of my family, we grew up and went to form as a professional, I met the taste of triumph, the one that always leaves you with more and more desire to fight. A few years become teen I went in search of my dreams to unknown lands, without the warmth of my people, of my roots, my Venezuela. At that time, I became man and realized that there were many things that could me away from my goal, yet always succeeded. The World Karting, Formula Renault 2000, Formula 3000, Word Series and GP2 championship unforgettable. I got used to winning, we received over 200 trophies, of all sizes, shapes, shine, finally, my whole lifetime of achievement in an incredibly wonderful and great pride for my own space. Arrived as expected, sleep, so he justified all my means, Formula One, a category that gave me even the most anticipated of my victories, this Grand Prix of Spain in 2012. All this thanks to the continued support of my family, of international fans and especially my great country, that it was heard with our glorious anthem and traveled the world, because I carry my flag not only in my car but in my soul and so to the very top of the podium.
>Today most humbly inform you that no I will be present at the starting grid for the 2016 F1 season,
>thanks for all your messages of support, passion and concern for my future. I feel very honored with the support of all of you and proud of my professional performance. I confirm my feelings of gratitude to God, my family, my sponsors, my friends, my fans and all who have helped realize this great dream of being able to represent Venezuela to the pinnacle of motorsport. Their their MacHonda fantasies are certainly perplexing. There is no evidence that they can be front runners any time soon specially given their troubles last season. The coming rule changes gives them a chance in the future but this year, there won't be any miracles for them. They can hope to challenge RedBull and Williams but Ferrari and Mercedes are just that step ahead with their engines and Honda is playing catchup like Renault.

After watching so many 2013 races I can definitely go either way on the 'new' formula. It's a balancing act between one driver being a little bit above the rest and teammates in a race of their own. Back in 2014 I put up with it in the hope that the gap would be closed down but it's clear with the token system that isn't the case.

There hasn't been a good race on merit in this formula. Embarrassing fuckups (canada 2014, monaco 2015), and serendipitous turns of events (belgium 2015) have made some races vaguely entertaining. None of the entertainment value has been as a result of legitimate mettle testing of man and machine.
This season and last have been a blur to myself and everyone I've spoken to, it just seems like races are interruptions in the far more interesting (but even then subpar) in season drama.
That's a very bad thing for a sport when WWE type storylines are far more entertaining than the actual events.
>>33934
>I can definitely go either way on the 'new' formula.
How? The v8 era being mediocre (but undeniably a better trackside experience if only for the noise alone) doesn't at all justify the bastardized mess that is today's f1.

I wouldn't call Belgium 2015 that serendipitous but yeah the seasons has been a blur broken up by moments that I can just about remember. But that feeling is going back a long way further than the current formula.
>undeniably a better trackside experience if only for the noise alone
Honestly I think it depended on the race you went to and I wouldn't really say the V8's were better. I mean I don't even recall the sound from my first GP which was 2013 Spa.
It could have been anything. I don't even remember getting any kind of sensation of 'wow that was loud. I could feel it come through the ground' and I was on the Kemmel straight.
I remember the safety car because it reverberated through the trees while we were in the middle of the circuit on the first day.
We heard it come out and we just stopped and listened to it do a lap while we were surrounded by trees and couldn't see it. That was cool.
And the only good parts of Spa was quali and seeing Seb's face while he was getting booed.

Considering that sauber is using an updated chassis from last year (which itself was a reworked chassis from the previous year) you might even be right.
It is funny how Williams only gained standing in the wcc by being a low drag/long wheelbase chassis with a long geared Mercedes engine, and then was shocked when their advantage evaporated the next year.

It actually makes no sense from an engineering standpoint the way they have it. Usually one has smaller diameter wheels at the rear, but a larger tire in order to have more sidewall, and thus more ability to flex for out of corner grip.

General Motors is often derided as "Government Motors" in the U.S. on account of them taking government money and for some time being owned by the feds (some deep irony now that they're intending to build a bunch of cars for the us market in china, money well spend feds). Development was never really limited though, only deployment. That's why the token system was so fucking stupid.
The FIA came to the naive conclusion that if you limited them to 5 of each component per year, that they would only have to make 5, and would save money.
Meanwhile back in reality, they were probably making 5 different versions every week as part of ongoing R&D, that would only ever see the track 50 iterations later when they had some loophole tokens to use, or 1000 iterations later when the next homologation date came under the original rules.

I should have been clearer. yeah. you're right that they would test 800 different variants of each part deployed and thus spend a lot more.

More than likely.
He was a pretty vocal critic of the IRL, especially after the IRL screwed him out of his 2002 Indy 500 win.
His most famous IRL hate quote would have to be:

>Whilst one immediately thinks of Jules Bianchi, Justin Wilson and Henry Surtees, the incident at Imola which claimed Ayrton Senna's life in 1994 is also being cited, the Brazilian killed when a suspension arm pierced his helmet.
it's really a stretch to invoke muh dead Senna in favor of partially enclosing the cockpit, especially given that iirc the suspension arm went through the unprotected area. maybe there is hope that continued testing will prove it's impractical. someone I know from work who doesn't even follow f1 saw this in the news somewhere and I sperged out saying the drivers are expecting workplace safety instead of a sport but I think that truly is the real problem here.
I'll concede that the opposing voices (mine included) about not neutering the sport in favor of safety are using the same arguments Jackie Stewart had to go up against in his time but there's a big difference from half a dozen drivers dying in a year to the Bianchi accident - which we all know had nothing to do with the car's safety structure and all to do with tractor cunt and Newton's 2nd law.

thank fucking god someone sees.
Also, jackie stewart is frequently misinterpreted. For one, he seems faintly critical of the muh safety of this era, and for two, most of his complaints regarded having circuit standards up to the rules that already existed at that time (armco properly installed, enough marshalls, ambulances on location)

I finished watching the 89 Aussie GP last night. The most surprising thing was Nakajima performance by far, who was able to pick up 4th place as well as the fastest lap I believe. He probably would've had a good chance at grabbing a podium had backmarkers not held him up the whole time. Im suprised the Lotus 101 performed so well; since I've heard criticisms that the chasis was altogether too nervous and unstable. Maybe Nakajima had some hidden talent? Unlikely, but one can dream.
Funny that plebbitors hail Senna as the wet weather god, yet he of all people was one of the first to completely trash his car; wiping out martin brundel.

It's a real "every dog has his day" moment when Nakajima narrowly misses out on a podium.
When lotus lost Honda engines for 1989 and went to Judd, everyone expected them to drop Nakajima. Who knows why? He was quite poor that season with that race being the major exception. He was incredibly well liked within the team and was apparently a pretty good test driver, but when your other driver is nelson piquet, do you need another technical driver?

>Hi Gary, another great article, thanks for your insight. I appreciate this is a partial ‘thread hijack’, but am not sure otherwise how to ask you. I wondered if you could shed any light on what the possible complications would be from a brain injury, that would cause a cardiac arrest 12 months on from the initial recovery? I refer of course to Maria. I was surprised a heat attack could be caused so long after the original incident. Thanks as always. Phil.
>
>Astonishingly (to me), you are the first person to have asked this question. My slant? I’m convinced that Maria took her own life. A devastating consequence of what was a very severe injury, from numerous points of view. This is totally compatible with the content of the contemporaneous press releases.
>Had Maria been hospitalised just prior to her death, one could have postulated an infection of some sort. Remember that her injury involved the upper nasal passages, some of the sinuses, and was a very complex wound, creating the possibility of entry points from the outside to the intracranial area, one of the most tightly defended parts of the body. But there is no evidence that she fell ill before passing away.
>Let’s also keep in mind that Maria’s injury involved the frontal lobes, the part of the brain that is involved with inhibition of impulses, calculation of consequences, judgement of appropriateness, etc. Let’s also remember that depression is common after severe injury of all sorts.

No clue, but I do think a stroke a year later is a bit bizarre, especially when she was so well recovered. Except for the eye, you almost cant tell what happened to her from pictures. Did she get cosmetic surgery?

it's more impressive that the surgical team managed to reconstruct her orbit from that mess without going full terminator. that said there was probably a good deal of titanium in there.
it's not unheard of to die suddenly after traumatic injuries. last year somebody in my community was kill when a blood clot from her broken leg (slipping on ice) circulated to her brain. but yeah a year makes you wonder.
