>Federal bureaucrats intend to mandate automated braking in all new cars – if the car companies don’t install these systems in every car they sell on their own initiative.

>These systems – which use radar proximity sensors to detect the presence of an object in the car’s path and apply the brakes automatically if the driver doesn’t – are already in about a third of 2016 model year cars, but not yet force-fed to the public by government edict.

>GM, Ford, Toyota, VW, Mercedes, BMW and Volvo have already committed – on their own – to making automated braking standard equipment in all their models within the next few years.

>"We need more competitive racing," he said. "I would keep qualifying as it is. The guy who is quickest would still have his number of poles recorded for history.

>"But then he could start, say, 10th based on his pole and where he stands in the championship. We are looking at exactly how we could do it.

>"The guy who is third fastest in qualifying would start, say seventh or eighth. That is better than totally reversed grids because all you get with them is the man at the back getting past the slower guys at the start of the race. This way makes it competitive between guys of similar speed. It won't be easy to get past people.

according to wikipedia at least it's still used

>When first used, overtaking was frequent as cars could follow closely through the last two corners and slipstream down the long straight. As aerodynamic balance became more critical, this overtaking method drastically decreased as the cars were unable to follow each other through the fast final corner due to turbulence created by the leading car.[4] The 2007 season saw the first of the two final sweepers replaced with a slow chicane in an effort to improve overtaking. However, the redesign has not yet shown any effect.[4]

>The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya also plays host to many other racing series, including MotoGP. The chicane which was put in the penultimate turn for Formula 1 does not play a part in the track layout for Moto GP, and there are at least five points on the track (turns 1, 2, 4, 10, 14) where riders are known to overtake. As in Formula 1, turn one is arguably the most popular place for overtaking. The circuit is not known to produce copious amounts of overtaking, despite the long straights.

"Formula one is too unpredictable for me to do that, but what I've seen so far, the aero detailing on the car looks fantastic." indycar is "competitive" and it's still shitty racing. If this season were competitive in the sense that two constructors had a chance at the title, it would still be domination over the rest of the field.

What made f1 great is the dynamism, that a car and driver could get better or worse over the season and that the rules allowed all these variables in play.

It's not that I or anyone else is aiming to be stubborn for the sake of it, it's just that it would be better to be gridlocked, and then ultimately achieve something than it is to take that relativistic attitude and be like reddit or trackforum and convince ourselves that things arent bad.

Hideo Sato, the maximum leader of the motorsport division of the Japanese brand, and Yasuhisa Arai, the man who led the return of the Japanese brand to F1 - with terrible results - will be removed from their positions at the end of the day, but They have been informed of this decision internally.

They won't run the body (other than the floor) at max width anyway, too shit for CdA aero.

But how do they decide the order of the cars on the track? Because I can clearly see some drivers cheating the rules and doing some clever "nearly blocking" manoeuvres if they're in front of other cars.

Sure there are rules about that, but I would be surprised if anyone didn't try it.

Probably going to be experimented at some race, then dropped right afterwards because of how stupid it is. If the issue is that half the qualifying sessions are boring because no one's driving, then maybe they should stop penalizing the drivers actually driving in quali by having them carry over their tires.

ad768f No.36205

>You would have to fill assuming you were going to run for the whole session.

What about the midfield though?

You'd get a huge advantage by fueling the car for 30 minutes of running instead of an hour.

And as a result, you won't get knocked out after 30 minutes, and run out of fuel.

It really is mindbogglingly incompetent that they want to fuck with one of the few things in F1 that actually works well.

1.5 min between each elimination, Q1 is 15 min and there are 22 cars. So that gives us (15/1.5)-1=9 drivers out, 13 left. Then Q2 is 3 min longer so that's an extra two cars out (13-11) for… 2 left in Q3?

So it looks like we've gone from a multi-way shootout to 12 minutes of two cars (which will probably be Mercedes) sitting in their garages after setting a banker lap since there aren't enough tires.

Another problem with this new format is that it doesn't account for laps that take longer than 90s. So this would be fine for Canada, Interlagos, etc. which have short laps and the driver can theoretically respond/get another lap in. But if it's Spa and raining (extreme but realistic example) the laps take 2 minutes and cars are going to knocked out after getting one flying lap down (out lap + timed lap could be almost 5 minutes if they're on track the instant the session begins).
