The wheelbase is dictated by the Ferrari 15 unit. I think the sidepod might have been dictated by using last year's Ferrari radiator solution to open up space on the floor. I think they might bring a sculpted sidepod design later on if it doesn't eat up too much R&D time.

>>37022

I really hope the ferrari is up there. but other teams seem to inferr that they're not on the same level of Mercs yet. Im hoping that somehow Rosberg can play Ferrari's advantage against hamilton; of course, that can happen both ways.

Then again, maybe a 1986 will happen again; where Vettel can take advantage of the two mercs fighting and snab the WDC from under them.

e01b7b No.37027

I really wouldn't be suprised if the defer kimi to a 2nd driver position if it meant vettel securing a WDC.

I think Kimi is an extremely competitive driver, but only when he has a car set up to his liking; having another competitive driver might mean compromising his front-end heavy driving style (sort of like how Hamilton is fucking up Rosberg, except in that case it seems to be more motivated by keeping the car babby from whining.)

>>37027

>but only when he has a car set up to his liking

It will be interesting to see how the change to push rod suspension will help him.

>mfw Gimi actually comes good

Also, apparently another thing that really fucked his sensitive feels, was the FIA changed the regulations and made the teams go back to hydraulic steering instead of electronic.

Apparently with the electronic they could just laptop very minor changes in feel, but with hydraulic they had to play trial and error machining parts over and over, which takes fucking forever, and isn't as precise.

All Ferrari would have done is wrap it with carbon mat, then dumped resin on it.

>If you want to make a sheet of carbon fiber, you just get a piece of glass or something flat and smooth, lay a sheet of carbon mat on it, then pour resin on it and let it dry.

If a v6 was made to sound like a v10 it would be cool for about 5 minutes and then i'd just pay attention to more important things like reliability and efficiency.

e01b7b No.37250

>>37249

Im more referencing how there was promised a singificant increase, but there wasnt any.

Yes I agree; efficiency over sound. A formula shouldn't be built around the noise a car makes. Its tune shouldn't be itself crafted per se, but rather a circumstantial to the engine that was created.

Skeumorphism will do nothing but only further hinder the sport.

b58edf No.37363

Team managers met earlier this week and suggested a compromise format which would see knockout periods during the first two parts of qualifying before using the old style in a Q3 session which would feature eight cars.

However, the WMSC has now approved the original format, with the aim of introducing it from the first race of the season in Australia in two weeks.

The new elimination format will work as follows:

Q1

16 minutes

After 7 minutes, slowest driver eliminated

Slowest driver eliminated every 1 minute 30 seconds thereafter until the chequered flag

7 drivers eliminated, 15 progress to Q2

Q2

15 minutes

After 6 minutes, slowest driver eliminated

Slowest driver eliminated every 1 minute 30 seconds thereafter until the chequered flag

7 drivers eliminated, 8 progress to Q3

Q3

14 minutes

After 5 minutes, slowest driver eliminated

Slowest driver eliminated every 1 minute 30 seconds thereafter until the chequered flag

2 drivers left in final 1 minute 30 seconds

>"The Strategy Group voted it through, on which I obviously sit and I voted for it. I think it’s really important to remember the whole purpose of looking at qualifying was to try and shake up the grid to go into the race and make races a little bit more exciting.

>"I think it’s too early to judge. I would like to get to Melbourne, see how it plays out, and then we’ll comment upon it. But I think the objective and the reasons why we have looked at it and changed it are well meaning, and I think we should reserve criticism until we see play out."

Also it surprises me that Americans apparently don't seem to have cordials or squash. Like every household I've ever been in had some form of cordial in it. It's what you drank as a kid. inside the walls residential is generally some 12/2 NM-B cable (a lot of people say "romex" for all nonmetallic sheathed) which is 12 gauge solid copper (maybe the thickness of a pencil lead) which is 20 amps, but a single typical 120V outlet is only 15A

they are rated by ampacity not wattage so the 240V circuits (range, water heater, clothes dryer) look similar but there is an extra wire

they also make other sizes, 10g solid for 30A circuit isn't unusual. 8g (40A) and up are stranded not solid and on the other eng 14g (15A) gets used for cheap shit

extension cords are another matter, a typical unmarked extension cord is 16/2 13A 1625W (read that right off this $2 one next to me). they are all stranded. if you want a decent one e.g. for construction they are usually color coded like orange/red/yellow for 16/14/12

I can tell you that the previous picture I posted >>37520 might be a bad plug and might fail PAT testing.

There isn't enough slack on the earth wire.

Well the live pins are insulated part way so that if plugged in halfway you can't touch them.

All the sockets come with shutters inside them that cover the live and neutral holes and only open when the ground is connected meaning you can't start poking shit into your socket and get shocked.

The sockets all have on/off switches as well.

I know getting patriotic over a plug is a bit much but it is a really nice piece of british engineering.

Remember when mansell said that he could beat hamilton on single lap pace, and that you lose race pace when you get old?

More and more I'm thinking of the statistics that show when people get old. Jacques Laffite was driving f1 in his 40s and his qualifying pace really suffered, but his race pace was really good, with him on the podium twice in his final year before retiring with leg injuries. Clay Regazzoni is similar, with qualifying being disproportionately hurt, good results until he became paraplegic when his brake pedal snapped at long beach.

More strategic drivers like Alain Prost, Niki Lauda and Nelson Piquet were less affected in both categories, although both Prost and Piquet's performances seemed to suffer more with lack of motivation (1989 for piquet and 1993 for prost).

13a1c2 No.37685

http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/analysis-could-f1-elimination-qualifying-face-last-minute-veto-677975/

>As of now, the FIA's official 2016 F1 regulations state that qualifying is exactly the same as it was last year.

>Only if all teams support the change to an elimination format now will that be changing for Melbourne.

3710e1 No.37686

>>37685

The only way elimination format would make work if it was done over the course of a single hour-long session. Half-hour of free for all, start eliminating drivers every 2 minutes once the half-hour mark passes.

4d3b64 No.37688

>>37686

The biggest problem with all these elimination qualifying schemes is that they force drivers to qualify their cars on the track at the same time under the same circumstances (barring getting blocked).

This removes the planning and strategic elements of qualifying which naturally toss up the field. If you look at qualifying results from the mid 90s and further back, it's rare to see the procession of cars in order of constructors standings that has become commonplace today.

Under the two day, 12 lap, 1 hour per session qualifying scheme you saw the most skill rewarded, the biggest gaps between teammates, and the potential for better racing from the natural tossup of the grid.

There's some fallacy that we have to make qualifying like a randomized, frenzied dash that rewards getting out on track first more than the skill of the driver and car setup.

Also the 2 day, 12 lap, 1 hour qualifying sessions were perfectly watchable, usually at least two drivers were out doing balls out laps at any given time.

People love to say that rain would prevent anyone from coming on track, as if a rained out qualifying session wouldnt be immediately redflagged by todays FIA lest the tractors get hungry.

>Despite a general belief that the 't-minus' logos adorning the sidepods of this year's Arrows cars pointed to the unveiling of a major new sponsor or chassis development, nothing appeared to be any different at Imola.

>There was a feeling of disappointment and anti-climax when, at 't+1', the team revealed that the ruse simply drew attention to its latest branding idea. 'T-minus' was dreamt up by new Arrows boss, Prince Malik, as a universal brand name which will be licensed to manufacturers wishing to promote their products in tandem with Arrows. The advantage, according to Prince Malik, is that manufacturers can benefit directly from a global marketing facility offered by his company, while appearing on the sidepods of the team's cars at no extra cost.

>Much had been made of a possible link with Italian car manufacturer Lamborghini, with rumours suggesting that Arrows had signed a deal to use Lambo engines in its cars. In contrast, the connection merely pointed to the possibility of Lamborghini launching a limited 't-minus' edition of its Diablo model.

>ed carpenter/Sarah Fisher/CFH/Vision racing/whatever they call it now thinking they can ever be successful at anything other than ovals.

you really must have to shoot yourself if you're perennially shitty at a whole type of track and it's a spec series.

I was actually going to use the nipple one, but I changed to one in a racesuit because I was worried that she has become so irrelevant that people wouldn't know she was a driver if it was just a titty photo

but if I had friends I wouldn't have time for you guys…

Also where I live isn't that social and I only ever had one proper absolute best friend (went round to each others house. Always paired up at school. proper best m8s) across my school life. All my other friends I haven't kept in contact since we left upper 6th. I didn't have a twitter or facebook, I stopped going online on my xbox. The few who I had on steam haven't messaged me in ages.

The idea of going out to find friends feels awkward.

I leave for work at 8-9am get back at 8 usually. I'm often quite tired so I go upstairs to have fun my little brother. He's on the autistic spectrum but playing with lego or racing games is always good fun. I commentate on his/our racing, pretending it is some big final race with a chance of a title.

I let him come to my room because his computer is pretty rubbish and play rfactor 2. Same thing again.

He always gets a kick out of the crashes and regardless of the severity I always joke and claim he has died or the car has gone through the fence and wiped out the crowd.

He always tries to come up with some excuse as to why he is in fact alive:

>"Okay this is bad buuuuuut I'm heavily injured, in a come for life, eating through a straw but I count as alive"

>"They would have jumped out of the way!!! They had like what 1…2… seconds to react. Sure they made it. Maybe that guy has a broken leg but he will walk it off"

I don't really know where I was going with this….
