I'm only halfway through and am finding it really, really hard to continue. Finding the tiniest silver linings in the bleakest of situations. Mon Dieu.
>Our universe collapsed on October 5, 2014. Before, even if it was running constantly over hill and dale, we communicated daily, orally or by text. And here, in a split second, everything collapses. The questions that nobody can answer replace life projects. Will he make it? If so, will he disabled or can he live normally? In short, this type of accident, I think it hits more than a real death. Suffering is relentless. A daily torture. We send him our love, that of all the people who send him messages. And he, in return, he gives us energy, envy, what continue to fight alongside him.

For the race, I see it being the same result as China really, the temperatures should not be a problem with a twilight race, but with the circuit being rear limited this time, I think Ferrari can be closer with their strong rear.
I really can't wait for Barcelona where all the teams should have their final spec engine, and Ferrari should have a big gain too with the amount of tokens that they have left.

http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2015/04/insight-why-vettel-and-ferrari-were-a-menace-to-rosberg-in-china-but-not-for-the-reason-he-thought/ >The problem for Rosberg is that there is not the scope for two widely differing strategies this year between the Mercedes drivers, because Vettel is close enough that if one of the strategies goes wrong, the team would not get a 1-2 finish, in fact it might even lose the race. It is one thing to switch one driver onto a different tyre for the second stint if you are racing yourselves with the third place car 8 or 10 seconds behind. But quite another if Vettel is sitting 1.6 seconds behind in third place at the end of the opening stint. >This puts more emphasis on qualifying and the start of the race, which is why Rosberg was so deflated after missing pole by 4/100ths of a second on Saturday and why Hamilton had his car pointed at an aggressive angle on the start line, aiming across at Rosberg to cut off any challenge into Turn 1.

If you can translate what you develop in competitive research for use in consumer technologies, then let's just consider that a perk, not the crux of the sport's existence. You're right, it's not the point of F1; if they had an open formula, there would still be research into getting more horsepower for a given displacement, and thus improvement of the internal combustion engine (and the annoyingly frequent mention of road relevance) anyway.
http://www.quora.com/Why-are-people-promoting-races-like-F1-NASCAR-etc-when-need-of-the-hour-is-to-save-fuel >The total fuel consumed by all the F1 cars in one year is 265,813 litres, which is less than the 273,000 litres of fuel consumed by a jumbo jet on a long distance round trip (Singapore-Zurich-Singapore). Number one clauses are often not respected though. In recent years, Ferrari has respected Alonso's number one status over Massa.
Ferrari never respected Jody Scheckter's No.1 clause, but he still beat Gilles Villeneuve to the championship.

Hybrids violate any rule requiring there to be only one engine in the car. Hybrids enable hidden traction control systems. Hybrids erode dependence on driver skill by way of automating the control of one of the car's engines.
Hybrids aren't even eco-friendly. Tons of conflict minerals go into the batteries and motors, there's a greater carbon release over the production process (mining minerals, refining minerals, transporting minerals, producing battery, shipping battery, conditioning battery, etc.), batteries are inefficient storage of energy, and have a very short operating life in addition to failing under high stress and not from age. This doesn't even get into the weight, heat, and aero penalties of such a system.
I'm not anti-environmentalist, I have solar panels on my fucking house and an energy efficient space heater, and LED lights in my house. Hybrid systems are fucking stupid even for automotive fuel economy. The answer is to loosen up the poorly conceived road homologation standards that the U.S. NHTSA and Euro NCAP have created to make heavy, marginally (if at all) safer, and less fuel efficient vehicles. Do you think the high hoods, thick doors, and enormous pillars have helped aero, weight and fuel economy? The other day I saw a nash metropolitan on the street. That's a car from 1954 that seats 4 and gets 40 mpg. The geo metro wagon is documented to get 55 mpg on its 3 cylinder engine with a 5 speed stickshift. The hybrid savior, the Toyota Prius, for all its other problems endemic to being a hybrid can only manage 51 mpg in the most generous estimate.
Hybrids are not the future of automotive fuel efficiency

Renault has left and come back to f1 because of it not being what they wanted more times than probably any other manufacturer.
If F1 went back to a rational 3literNA/1.5FI formula, it wouldnt matter anyway, as engine suppliers for other series, or private engine shops like Judd or Al Melling, or AER would fill the gap.

That's an entire fucking board full of circlejerking cretins that didn't watch f1 prior to 2007 and have no clue that f1 is different from a spec series. It's not like renault, ferrari, mercedes, or honda is going to go undergo financial hardship because you and I bitched and the rules got changed for the better.
Don't restrain your opinion. Argue, research, bitch, watch old races. It's only through free discussion that we see improvement.

>>5269 Of course the manufacturers won't face hardship, it's the small teams that the engine cost gets passed on to that due. A very large factor in the demise of caterham and marussia were the ballooned engine costs.
Now if there were a rule passed that customer teams can't be charged above a certain amount for engines, then by all means get rid of the current formula once this season is over with, I don't care.

Just saying, changing the engine formula right now would have a horrible effect on the small teams unless rules were introduced that capped how much manufacturers can charge customers. Now after the first year of the change I'm sure the costs would level out quite below that of the current engines, but it's getting through that first year that would be the problem, as was proven last year.

>>5275 Even clean sheet engines for the old formula won't cost as much as the current engines over the course of a season because of the vast difference in reliability. It costs more to have a cheap engine that doesn't work and doesn't work well when it does work (Renault/Honda) than it does to have an expensive engine (which these wouldn't be) that does work.
Judd and AER already make engines that are cheaper and fit the old formula.
Your concern isnt misplaced, but it is less severe than you think.

>>5356 I've actually had it in my head for a long time that the next Gamergate-type conflict is in the automotive field.
The automotive journalism sites (with the possible exception of TheTruthAboutCars) are dirty as fuck. BringATrailer is deliberately driving up prices for old cars because they now run an auction service.
Joe Saward (f1 journo) was a member of the board of Caterham and didn't disclose this, nor recuse himself from covering the Tony Fernandes/Colin Kolles/ForzaRossa debacle. The writing he did on that was a propaganda piece.
There's a fight to put SJW shit into motorsport (the banning of grid girls, and the hamilton champagne debacle are only two very recent examples).
The automotive press (motorsport and otherwise) present rumor as fact, and Jalopnik leads the way in clickbait bullshit made to look like reporting. There's native advertising everywhere and the review scores are subjective as hell.
Most egregiously there's an agenda to discredit and insult the reader that disagrees. I read an article in Car and Driver (January 2015) about faking engine noise, and the article was hostile. Anyone who disagreed with BMWs that have a shaker in the firewall to mimic engine feel and the forcibly enabled speaker system that makes fake engine noise was stated to be stupid and misinformed. This is not the first time I've seen this sentiment. If you pay attention, I'm sure you will see it too.
There's a huge push for apologism too. All these sites state in concert that Porsche HAS to make their crossovers because otherwise they'd go out of business, when the Porsche 911 has the most profit per unit sold of any vehicle in Volkswagen Group; or that crossovers are just "tall wagons" and are better than every other vehicle; or that manual transmissions and assist-less performance cars are a stupid thing of the past, when people are currently buying more aspirational cars than ever before and manual-transmissioned car sales are at a high in the U.S.
Tell me that someone else is seeing this.

I wonder if Vettel fully killed his engine. Rumor said they Ferrari going to replace the ICE in both cars because of cracks in the blocks. But they would of still run the old engine on Friday to save wear on the new engines, if they were going to run new ICE's for the race. The really shit part is that they were due to take a new engine next race, which was rumored to be an upgraded one with tokens spent, so taking a new old spec engine at this race will fuck that right up. >tfw we will have to wait longer for Ferrari to challenge Mercedes>tfw Lewis will extend his points lead by then >why even live

Probably a good decision. They're already equal or beating the Mercedes down the straights, so it's not worth risking the DNF.
