I actually agree with you there. Moss' attitudes seem to live up to the stereotypes of his generation. He's made many sexist comments in the media about female drivers, so it wouldn't surprise me that his dislike for Hamilton is solely due to his race.

That said, fuck Hamilton. I hope he emulates his hero.

>>6984

I love it! I knew the old geezer couldn't seriously do any of the mercedes press events with this poser gangbanger.

Moss' sexist comments about female drivers aren't entirely misplaced though. There have been a decent amount of female drivers that made it up to top series in racing and nearly all of them are well below par. Aside from Michelle Mouton, Divina Galica, and Simona de Silvestro, and mayyyybe Danica Patrick, who else is there that has ever impressed?

That's really a small number for half the human race. Not to mention that women have been racing in grand prix racing since before it was F1. Additionally, Women are often better sponsored (Lella Lombardi brought a title sponsor, Lavazza to March and was completely outclassed by Brambilla).

Long story straight: Moss might be being a bit brusque in his discussion of female drivers and might be applying his own reasoning, but at the end of the day, he's not entirely wrong about female drivers underwhelming relative to their male counterparts.

Sorry, I'm like an expert on the wimminz drivers.

they seem to forget that Jody Scheckter was the last formula 1 world champion for ferrari until 1998. 19 years without a driver's champion. This is the formula 1 equivalent of shouting "1918" to boston red sox fans (as the team hadn't won since then).

34bd0d No.6992

http://www.gpupdate.net/en/f1-news/324964/hembery-free-tyre-choice-impossible/

> Pirelli Motorsport Director Paul Hembery says the suggestion of Formula 1 teams choosing their preferred tyre compounds ahead of races would be "impossible" for the sport's sole supplier to implement.

>Force India's Otmar Szafnauer recently proposed that teams themselves could pick the two compounds they want to use at each race to add another strategy variable.

>Pirelli currently makes the Option and Prime allocations for all rounds from its dry-weather range, which is made up of Super Soft, Soft, Medium and Hard rubber.

>"First you have to make sure that all the teams agree to any new proposal – which is never easy – and in this scenario, you would also have to make sure that all the teams are making responsible choices," said Hembery, when GPUpdate.net asked if the idea is feasible.

>"You might find that some of the teams qualifying towards the back of the grid are constantly nominating the Super Soft, and there are some situations where that clearly wouldn't be suitable over a race distance.

>"But there is also a logistical element that makes it impossible to do."

WOW that's profoundly retarded

No shit the teams in the back will pick the super hard or super soft tires, that's how tire strategy works and that's how teams did it for years.

>b-b-but the teams might not make responsible choices!

are you their mother?

>what about the scary logistical challenge i mentioned but failed to name

11097e No.6994

>>6992

I get the thing about responsible choice because clearly at some tracks a supersoft would be like Indy 2005 and some team would crash hard, wouldn't be able to race and Pirelli would get shit for it even though the team picked the tyres.

Logistically I wonder if Pirelli produce tyres in batch form and so having to produce tyres to order for the whole grid at each race would be a big change.

I don't personally think it's going to produce any better racing. More likely to make it worse to be honest.

df4d43 No.6996

>>6992

I really think they should go to 'old school' rules.

Get a single tire supplier like GoodYear. They bring -ONE- type of tire to the track. You can use as many sets as you'd like, but there's only one compound.

Engines? Pfft. Bring whatever. In the late 80's / early 90's manufacturers built whatever they felt like.

In 1990, four teams won:

> McLaren (Honda V10)

> Ferrari (V12)

> Williams (Renault V10)

> Benetton (Ford V8)

The '94 Benetton won with a Ford V8 over Williams (Renault V10) and Ferrari V12.

The '88 McLaren dominated with a turbo V6 against turbo V8's, V10's and V12's.

And go back to the 60 minute qualifying system.

11097e No.6997

>>6996

>And go back to the 60 minute qualifying system.

No. Everything else was fine until that. The new version is so much better to watch on television and at track.

The only reason to go back would be to make qualifying worse and so it is guaranteed to be more boring than the race.

I'm glad I went to Spa 2013 not because the race was good (it wasn't, it was a terrible race with only interesting things being vettel passing hamilton on the first lap and pastor crashing into di resta at the chicane) but because quali was so good to watch.

Just imagine if fourthberg was to get a legit win against Hamilton.

No Hamilton failures in quali or the race. Seventhberg just beats him in pure skill on track.

It could really swing the championship in fourteenthbergs favour. Given him the momentum to fight.

Lauada did tell Startfrompitlaneandretirewithenginefailureberg to just restart the season at Spain and ignore all previous results so maybe it could happen.

fcae41 No.7006

>>6996

I don't like the 60 minute qualifying, but you are on the right track. The qualifying with the two sessions in which drivers could do only 12 laps was great. Yes I agree it was shittier to watch on tv (but you guys watch practice so its not that bad) but the thing is qualifying had much better strategy and the grid was much more often tossed up.

Also why have on tire supplier? Competition will make tires cheaper and better.

The issues in the past with one tire supplier dominating is the result of forcing the suppliers to homologate each compound for the season and prevent them from changing them in season to improve reliability and safety.

34bd0d No.7007

>>7006

Yeah this is the best idea. Look at the 1990 us gp at phoenix as an excellent example of it organically (not artificially) shuffling the grid.

I'm fairly certain that Pirelli produces them in batch form anyway and then just hems and haws about needing time to prepare them and thinking so hard about which ones are right to bring to the track to make it seem like they're working harder than they are. It's not fucking complicated.

df4d43 No.7009

>>7006

I'm more interested in the compound than the supplier.

GoodYear produced rocks. Throw them on and go: no fucks were given.

I dislike the need for two types of tires. Let teams do whatever they want. Don't stifle their strategies.

Deregulation would lead to better competition, IMO.

Why have official tyre suppliers?

Why not just put in some safety rules about tyres (pressure, side wall thickness, enough to guarantee safety) and then let the team turn up with something?

df4d43 No.7013

>>7010

My first post advocated going back to laize faire engine regs. Wasn't the "deregulation" implied…?

>>7012

I'm only hesitant because of '05.

Michelin built a tire that had a chemical compound that the Bridgestone tire couldn't work with effectively, if I recall correctly.

Put into simpler terms, I'd rather take the tire variable out of the equation. Everyone uses the same rubber, so you have a more honest competition between teams.

df4d43 No.7014

>>7013

*laissez faire.

34bd0d No.7015

>>7012

multiple tire suppliers is effectively that (i.e. the suppliers arent being signed by the FIA, they're the companies that the teams signed with). For years that was the case and it worked well enough.

>>7013

It's not meant to be as if i were disagreeing with you. Sorry if i made it sound like that. It's just a fight that F1 keeps having and to see someone get that most basic concept was cool.

Regarding '05, the teams should be free to upgrade and improve the tire during the year. If that doesn't solve the problem look at the economics of it: it will reach near equilibrium after a year or so, and if it doesn't a structurally free system would allow teams to choose another tire supplier.

11097e No.7016

>>7013

>Everyone uses the same rubber, so you have a more honest competition between teams.

But we don't like the current tyre rules because everyone has the same two compounds………….

I personally don't mind what the FIA is getting pirelli to do because having one rock hard set is just going to lead to the best car on those tyres winning every race and it will be boring.

If you had more asymmetrical performance in the cars I would prefer a proper racing tyre that doesn't degrade but the cars now are all similar in how they deliver their performance, some are just slower.

WEC demonstrates this perfectly.

34bd0d No.7017

>>7016

You have the answer: free up the car regs, and then free up the tire regs.

In all this talk of allowing more development and design work we never mention redoing the prize money which would have to be redone as it actively encourages the existence of only 10 teams.

fcae41 No.7020

>>7019

A system based on recent constructors championship standings with a minor bonus for teams that have kept their entry for 30 plus years seems like the most logical option.

Also, this will sound ridiculous, but what about bringing back prize money for race wins? Is it so strange an idea? When did they stop doing that? Grand prix racing is a bit of a misnomer otherwise.

Also, this will sound ridiculous, but what about bringing back prize money for race wins?

Awarding money per race would be great for some teams as they are having cash flow problems.

Also what would be the difference between first and last in prize money terms?

$202m to $10m is way too extreme

>>7022

>rewards the big teams in making better use of their resources among other things.

Yes but that means teams will gain and the other big teams would rather sacrifice themselves and everyone else then let anything change and another team ascend.

What we need is to completely get rid of the teams having any say in the rulemaking. Why they were allowed in the first place is beyond me and if they don't want to relinquish that power they can split and form their own series and we can watch the whole thing die.

fcae41 No.7026

>>7024

Agreed that that is too much of a gap in payout. All teams should probably be getting a bigger cut, but that's a cvc/bernie problem. I'm less concerned about the gap, more concerned about minimum payout. It should be considered that auto manufacturer teams dont necessarily have their budget determined by the winnings of the previous year.

In the united states we have a problem called "legislating from the bench" where judges reinterpret laws for political gain for laws they couldn't make or remove through congress. This is a huge problem because it means that the law enforced is not necessarily the one voted in, and it also makes a conflict of interest when judging should be impartial.

What this has to do with f1 is that teams shouldn't be part of the rule making process, but they have been because the FIA has failed to make a successful and long lived formula since the 3 liter/1.5 liter/3.5 liter days and they've been given control so they don't leave f1. ==As such, teams are for and against rules on a case by case basis depending on whether it would benefit them, not based on whether it's the correct one==

Examples: Sauber and force India getting FRIC banned (for a rule it didnt violate) because they had a shitty fric system.

Teams banning the lotus 88 despite the twin chassis ground effect aero being legal.

Ironically people will bitch for ages about how wanting a new formula now is sour grapes from Renault fans, despite that being a good move (even if were motivated by the same logic)

http://paddocktalk.com/news/html/story-277571.html

>Yet another voice has been added to concerns that formula one must change its rules to stop them "killing" the sport.

>The powerful Strategy Group will meet in May and it is expected the headline agenda item will be a sharp change of direction for F1 in 2017.

>Smaller teams are struggling to survive, bigger teams are struggling for success in the new 'power unit' era, while fans and promoters are calling for the cars to appear, drive and sound more aggressive.

>And now, former F1 driver and current FIA steward, Briton Derek Warwick, says rules like those mandating long-life gearboxes and engines are "killing the sport for TV and spectators".

>"Most of them (the drivers) are only doing 10 laps in practice because they are saving something – whether it be engine, power unit, gearboxes," he is quoted by Sportal.

>"So they (the rules) are kind of backfiring a little bit, the principle is right but something needs to change to make F1 exciting, to make the drivers look like gladiators."

>Instead, Warwick argues, the stars of the show have become little more than "polished PR machines", while the cars allow teenagers like Max Verstappen to leap almost straight from karting to F1 points.

>In contrast, the cars of old were "animals", Warwick said.

>"We had 1,600 horse power and downforce that made your eyes pop out," said the 60-year-old, who raced throughout the 80s.

>"(Today) you see them doing a test and within ten laps they are two tenths off the lead driver. That didn't happen in my day, therefore these cars must be easier to drive," Warwick said.

>"We just need to take a step back, have a good look at ourselves before it is too late."

You don't even need 1,600 horsepower.

Allow refueling and the cars will run 5-8 seconds a lap faster.

De-regulate the engines and see what happens.

Hell, just go back to '03 rules where engines had to last a whole weekend. Or, go back to '02, when you could use as many as you wanted.

02 was about the time shit started getting way too expensive and teams had the highest budgets.

An open formula (whatever that may be) should in theory be better at reducing costs.

I don't want refuelling back though. I never liked it and not bringing the heavy refuelling rigs all around the world is a fine way to cut costs.

34bd0d No.7095

the refueling rig transportation is a trivial cost. If half the races werent in durka durkistan that cost would be saved anyway.

F1 has always been a displacement based formula. You have 3 liters na or 1.5 liters turbo charged (2.5 bars of boost) and have to make the most of that.

Without displacement rules (which f1 has had for its entire existence) fuel or other consumables would need to be limited, otherwise there would be no way to keep the cars in the same performance class.

If F1 had fuel limits and no displacement regulation it would be Group C/LeMans/can am, not F1.

gotta do something to take the attention off the woeful season they are having.

Ron has been backtracking a lot on his preseason comments too about being competitive. Even I could feel as an enthusiast that McLaren weren't going to be anywhere other than midfield based on past form and new engine, and even that was best case scenario.Honda also got strong armed into compromising too much for the packaging. But I'm sure they are still happy with all that floor space they can't do anything with other than overcook everything in the car.

Williams did an extreme gearbox design a few years ago to save space at the back, no one else copied them.

RedBull could utilize that floor space as they had a supercharged rear diffuser during the EBD and coanda exhaust phases. Having that much floor space is okay but the compromises in the engines in now an engine formula is biting both RBR and McLaren.

All the sennafags/plebbitors were wetting their beds over this. Honda makes shitty racing engines, McLaren makes shitty chassis; it isn't the 90s anymore.

Having a compromise engine (fewer cylinders, different bank angle or configuration) in order to have chassis advantages was a viable strategy for years (look at how many races/championships have been won by British teams with the cosworth engines when they were far from most powerful on the grid). Now that there is no freedom in the chassis, engine, transmission, and tires, you have to have the most powerful engine or you're fucked.

Lotus now ready to join 'second group'

>Lotus thinks it is ready to join the action in the "second group" behind the title-warring Mercedes and Ferrari.

>Like most teams, the Enstone camp has brought what driver Romain Grosjean refers to as a "major upgrade" for its 2015 car to Barcelona.

>"Unlike last year, we now have a car that allows development," the French driver is quoted by Brazil's Globo. "I want to come up right behind (Daniel) Ricciardo.

>"Our goal is to fight with Red Bull."

>Australian Ricciardo, driving for Red Bull, is currently 'best of the rest' in the championship behind all of the Mercedes, Ferrari and Williams drivers.

>But Williams' technical boss Pat Symonds says he is not worried about the threat posed by Lotus.

>"No," he told Britain's Sky. "Like many teams, they really are quite tight on budget and therefore I think the development they'll be able to do is somewhat limited."

>Lotus' deputy boss Federico Gastaldi, however, begs to differ, insisting the black and gold-liveried team is now ready to join the 'second group' in 2015.

>"I believe that Williams, Red Bull and ourselves will fight for the positions behind Mercedes and Ferrari, who are still quite a long way in front," he said.

in 1989 they wanted to ban all engines except a 3 liter v8 of a defined bank angle, number of cylinders, bore and stroke. Ferrari built the 637 (a running and driving car) and threatened to quit f1 and go to CART.

The FIA then changed the rules so that all 3.5 liter piston engines were allowed.

The moral of the story is that manufacturers and the FIA don't have a fucking clue despite years of doing it right.

Every team that threatened to quit because of the 3.5 liter formula did not do so, and 1989 had a near record 20 teams entered because of the open regulations

Pirelli to go soft to spice up F1 - Hembery

>Pirelli is aiming to spice up races by leaning towards soft-compound tyre choices as the 2015 season progresses.

>Having faced intense criticism of its deliberately heavily-degrading tyres of the past, F1's official supplier went notably more conservative for the start of the new 'power unit' era last year.

>Pirelli vowed to ramp down that conservatism for this year as experience of the new regulations increases, but chief Paul Hembery acknowledged that the target of mainly three-stop races has yet to be achieved.

>"We aim to bring the softer compounds (to races) more and more," he told Finland's Turun Sanomat newspaper, "and in particular we want to be using the super-soft.

>"Maybe we should have taken that tyre to Bahrain," Hembery added, "as it would have meant a three-stop race."

>However, Lotus engineer Mark Slade says that, as far as Pirelli's approach to F1 goes, things have changed since Kimi Raikkonen was winning races for the Enstone team with ultra-soft tyres in 2012 and 2013.

I remember when I saw spelling bee competition on Simpsons and simply couldn't fathom what it was about, like I wondered how retarded you need to be to not be able to tell how words are spelled, because in Finnish you simply put the letters one after another and there is one sound for every letter.

Formula E in 49 bings?

2df254 No.7900

Seriously I hope Shitberg can win the race tomorrow.

Last season he outqualified Hamilton regularly but failed hard in the races.

Vettel will stay 3rd.

Bottos is also fast enough to keep the Torro Rossos behind him.

I am not expecting much from Shitkönnen but atleast he should be able to take his car to the 5th place.

Both McLelrens are far off the pace, they won't get any points and will stay where they are.

> Biggest / baddest technology center in the sport

> Two highly respected WDC drivers with a ton of respect on the grid.

How do you have all this going for you and still botch your package so badly?

As reddit will tell you, Alonso doesn't know how to develop a car. The reason Ferrari are doing so well is because they got rid of him and let Vetlel design the car.

Honda actually had one year less since they only started in 2013 IIRC.

The really questionable part is their decision to go with a radical design instead of just taking the best parts of the other three engines. Given that Mercedes has plain out-engineered the other teams in every area rather than coming up with individual tricks one would try and achieve the same sort of chassis-engine integration. Ferrari's improvement from last year should signal that's the way to go.

They had all the telemetry McLaren basically stole from Mercedes, and still couldn't make an engine that fucking works.
