15b86e No.7955[Last 50 Posts]

A new thread, old thread reaching limit.

Will Rosberg actually be able to maintain first place? Or will he go beta and throw it away to Hamilcock? Do you think a Torro Rosso can get a podium? Will Maldonado opt for a ride in his mad-max lotus? Will he systematically murder all drivers in his way to acquire first place?

Pic unrelated

>Stig is obviously Alan Jones.

As much as I want him to and hope he does, I'm not sure. We may see HAMMERTIME from poop senna to attempt an undercut

>Do you think a Toro Rosso can get a podium?

If the following 3 events happen, yes:

1. Williams fucks over GOA77AS in the pits. High likelihood

2. Gimmi Raiggonen xD chokes and can't get past them despite being in a faster car. Who fucking knows with that autistic drunk old man. Never know when his flashes of brilliance will come. He CAN be fast, but WILL he be fast?

3. Their Frenchie Renault engines decide not to surrender during the race. Rumored that Renault have fixed or greatly improved their reliability, but we'll see.

As for murdernado, I think Putin giving Kvyat a tank so he can make Russia proud is more likely

05415c No.7960

Hoping to see a Hamilton dive bomb to pass Rosberg at the first corner. Rosberg's new 'no fucks given' approach means he doesn't let Hamilton push him around, doesn't back out, and lets them both crash.

>brabham > Clark

Clark who is generally considered to be blessed by god with mechanical sympathy, who has an incredible record at Indy, who skipped Monaco to win the Indy 500 and still won the championship, Clark who has the most grand slams (pole, fastest lap, and race win) of any driver even though he died way before his time due to a tire explosion. Clark who on numerous occasions has come back from certain defeat to win the race (us grand prix 1966 with the brm h16 engine which spewed oil on the starting grid, or Belgian gp 1963 where he lapped the field and was 5 minutes ahead of Bruce McLaren). Clark who has a theoretical maximum of championship points that could be scored in a season.

bfb481 No.8016

Brabham played a huge role in designing and building the cars he raced, huggling that with F1 life as well as fucking winning not only drivers championships but constructors championships as well, that alone makes him better than Clark ever was.

The argument that he would have won more if he hadn't died is irrelevant, as nobody can objectively say such a thing.

Autosport interview with Brabham

>"In 1959 we had a problem with our gearboxes, because we didn't have one to suit a rear-engined car. Jabby Crombac, the racing journalist, actually got me to go to ERSA in France to see if they would sell me a gearbox. When I got there, they said yes, but it would probably take them 18 months to build what I wanted.

>Luckily I knew something about the foundry and I asked them if I could go for a look before I left. They had about 150 Citroen gearboxes lined up to cast the next day and I got talking to the foreman who was a motor-racing enthusiast. I talked him into letting me modify gearbox casings so that we had our own castings with our own modifications on them. I modified about 30 gearboxes that evening and they were cast the next day. Those castings finished up on our floor within two weeks. And without those we would never have won the world championship in 1959."

same article:

>Thing was," he says, "I thought about going for a year or two, to get experience of European racing and I ended up staying for 30!"

Being an Aussie, not a "whinging Pom", he's not about to open up about maybe feeling homesick, or missing his wife and kid, but he will concede that not being able to ship his workshop 10,000 miles north hampered him early on. "The thing I missed most," he says, "was my lathe."

http://www.motorsportretro.com/2013/04/jim-clark-tribute/

>“As far as I was concerned, I felt right from the beginning that he was such a good driver, and a man with whom I was so completely at one, that I could retire from driving myself and concentrate purely on producing cars for Jimmy to drive. And this is in fact what I did. We always got on so terribly well -we thought alike and acted alike, we were both keen on doing a thoroughly first-class job, and we found out about racing together. This is something which will never ever be the same again for me in motor racing, because of all the problems, all the successes and the anguish we shared together (and there’s a lot of anguish in motor racing). Throughout it all Jimmy realised we were both finding our feet and was very friendly, very co-operative. For me, this made it enjoyable, easy and pleasant.

>“As we went along, too, he developed a superb technical knowledge. When he started driving for me, he didn’t of course have the benefit of a formal engineering background. But he did have what I can only describe as a very very good intellect, and he picked up the engineering side of motor racing so rapidly that after a while I was able to interpret his expressions regarding the car, its handling and its requirements and so on. And this made it easier for me to develop better motor cars.

Even Colin Chapman thinks he was god tier

ea2061 No.8025

>>8024

>MUH TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

Hate to break it to you, but any driver worth a shit actively went out of his way to learn more about the car, about what goes into them and what makes certain components work. This is what separates a GOAT driver from an alright driver.

bfb481 No.8026

>>8022

Brabham couldn't win a race in the small displacement formula and was nearly out of his depth as a racer by this point. The cars were largely being developed without him by this point. He did perform well later and especially against jochen rindt, but even so to claim he is even close to jim Clark is beyond naive.

Um… I didn't…

Clark was definitely the better driver, but to claim he was the best at EVERYTHING is retarded fanboyism.

The gods went to the Scottish highlands just as they did to mount Olympus many years before and created Jim Clark.

Not to knock Jack Brabham, he's definitely better than today's drivers, but he isn't a better driver than jim clark.

Even three time championship winners like Stewart worship Clark.

>>8030

I got carried away and misread what you were talking about. Jack Brabham's role in building the cars is overstated, but that does not necessarily mean that Jim Clark was more involved at lotus than brabham was at motor racing developments during his time there.

Alonso is the one who took a huge gamble and lost out massively on it. He's trying so hard to justify the move to McLaren, while his old team is currently hot on the heels of Mercedes and very well may challenge for the title he has longed for these past 4 years back at Ferrari.

McLaren are going to be no where this season. I at least expect them to score some points and even next year, they need Honda to pull a Ferrari to be even on par with the Williams. I don't believe in this McLaren chassis or aero to actually pull it off, it's looking like, again, the same old, same old. Lots of hot air from Ron and blowing cold on the track. They are going to be murdered again in Monaco, they have been so poor in traction, it can't just be an engine problem, it is also a chassis problem too.

ecd538 No.8467

>>8463

1. Ros

2. Ham

3. Vet

I'll give it to Rosberg as it seems he might have turned a corner and he does drive well at this track.

RedBull should have one of their stronger results if the engine allows them with driveability and Torro Rosso should be just behind them too, but I suspect we might see a surprise there.

The Ferrari -Merc gap is a definitely track specific yo-yo effect. Ferrari seems to be okay in the aero zones but are losing out heavily in the traction zones as evident by the sector 3 times in Barcelona.

>Nico Rosberg picked up where he left off in Barcelona as Mercedes made an emphatic start to Formula One racing's two-day in-season test at the Spanish circuit.

>The German, who won Sunday's Formula 1 Gran Premio de Espana Pirelli 2015, set a best time of 1m 24.374s - quicker than his pole time on Saturday - which left him more than two seconds clear of the field. Rosberg also racked up an imperious 146 laps, comfortably more than any other driver achieved.

Rosbabby is back!

Browsing random onboards and see this. I had been reading that Thierry Boutsen was actually a pretty good driver but had been convinced during his time at benetton that he needed to have the car sprung as stiffly as possible and that this hurt his abilities later in his career.

Watching this video now it definitely looks like he has traction issues coming out of corners and that's probably too stiff a rear suspension.

I meant from a natural perspective. Obviously that takes away from his completeness as a driver. Many of the non british drivers for a lot of f1's history weren't super technical. This is especially true for the french drivers with the major exceptions of Alain Prost and Jean Pierre Jabouille.

>Marciello’s next outing for Sauber will come at next week’s in-season test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and he is relishing the opportunity to enjoy some longer runs behind the wheel of the C34 car.

>“During FP1 you don’t have a lot of time,” he said. “You’re afraid to crash or something. During a test you have all day, so you can do warm up laps. You can do long runs, of course during a normal day you have more chance to improve.

I'd be perfectly happy if the FIA just did away with the tire regulations. I don't care if there's a tire war or not, just let them design a tire that allows drivers to really push the limits for more than half of a lap before the tire dies and they have to nurse it home.
