Dallara couldn't make a chassis in the timeframe which could allow a battery swap and be safe in a crash.
I agree it is something they should go for as well as better battery tech and better motors. I'm just glad that they have been firm on having a spec chassis so it doesn't become an aero series.

What's the point of saving pit stops for something that is already boring to watch? Racing that doesn't give entertainment is an 100 % waste of energy and won't make people hype for electric so either make it exiting or don't do it at all.
What's acceptable? 15 laps per pit stop? I wouldn't have a problem with a stop say every 20 minutes if the cars hauled ass in between.

Formula E introduced a new safety procedure.
Under an FCY cars will be limited to 50kph (driver controller). Essentially a variant of the code 60, VSC, slowzones in other sports.
The thing is a few team bosses have said that in future they might want to make this an autonomous thing.
Start off with race control controlling the limiter and then going to full blown autonomous car which will follow a predetermined line and speed during safety car or FCY.
In the future they want to introduce wireless charging loops off the racing line so this auto line would charge them as well.

They want some level of fan interaction.
So they decided that fans could vote for the driver they wished to receive a 5 second boost.
The top 3 drivers received the boost and could use it when they wanted in the race.
Last season the max power usage during race was 150kw and the fanboost boosted you up to 180kw.
Also drivers got one boost per car as they have to do a car swap (so in reality they get two fanboosts)
This season the max power usage during race has increased so now it is 100kJ of energy to be used in a power window between 180kW and 200kW
And because they are extending the voting time into the race this means the drivers will only get fanboost after they have swapped cars.
It's stupid and becoming a bit of a mess with all the teams having different powertrains.
Last year they had to introduce a mid-season rule mandating that you had to use it as drivers were not using it because it was draining the battery too much and was compromising their race.
I don't think it ever led to any actual overtakes. In fact IIRC a lot of time the drivers with fanboost would crash out before they had a chance to use it.

Dallara couldn't design a chassis in the short time frame that could allow a battery change while meeting the safety standards the FIA wanted so they do a car swap instead. In future they say they will get the full race distance but it remains to be seen.
Everyone basically pits half way so it is essentially 2 races with the later half being better as you have the drivers who were good at saving energy with an extra lap of electricity to play with fighting through the field.
It is stupid and the fans have said they don't want it even if it barely influences the racing. But Agag is adamant on there being some fan interaction. The FIA aren't exactly keen on it either.
