3d printers are cool and all, but what kind of projects can you do with a laser cutter?

Why, 3d printer of course! They look neat as fuck.
Although I've read some bad things about lasercut 3d printers, Printrbot specifically. Apparently, they cut the contours in arbitrary order, so inner contours are sometimes cut when outer cuntours are already done, which is why the placement of holes is not so precise. But, if you have your own laser cutter it should be possible to cut them in proper order.

Could you cut key blanks with a laser cutter?

I ask, because I'm a criminal.

Probably not, I don't think you can do grooves on metal.

Yeah, it's purely 2d.
What you need is a mill. Then again, if you really were a criminal you'd know that.
