Hello, /fanfic/cers.

When did you start reading fanfic? And if you're a writer, how long have you been writing? Feel free to mention fandoms as well.

 No.116

I've been reading since '07 and writing since '08. My fandoms have primarily been books and anime.

I'll admit, that made me smile.

I wrote long before I read. I started my first one about 8 years ago, before I knew that fan fiction was even called that. Growing up with Sonic (games and the shows) and with boredom, I recall the very first fan fiction I ever wrote was when I was a kid. It was this awkwardly written scene where Sonic took Amy into a closet to confess his feelings for her. And then she responded by singing this 80's song. Don't worry, I've left that all in an embarrassing past. I've realized my mistakes since then and have improved (how much is up to whoever reads my works).

I think I started reading about 3 or 4 years ago. Mostly reading about Sonic and Amy getting together in some cheesy way. It's been a while since I've actually read anything because I've been working on this project of mine a lot more than actually checking out what some of the other fans have to offer.

My first serious work began 2 years ago. I've heard about the Sonic comics and I took an interest in them out of curiosity and wanting to see what was so great about them. Two particular issues served as the inspiration behind the greatest project of my life, which goes beyond writing. If you started the comics from the beginning like I did, you'd probably know what happened in #28 and #29. To put a long story short, Fiona, someone Tails loved and cherished turned out to be a robot who betrayed him for Robotnik.

Given my shares of betrayal and troubles with love I could relate to him. In retrospect, perhaps too well. I felt this animal urge, this obsession, just tearing at me to do something. As a writer would know best, passion moves mountains. Without any thought beforehand, I opened Notepad and wrote on the spot. And that was the beginning to what I now call the fan fiction with a soundtrack. Once I finish, I'm going to be thinking of ways to revive the couple in the fandom and eventually get Archie's attention on it so (ideally) the couple could be made official.

Hopefully it's going to be the first of its kind this Christmas (or perhaps February). I realize there's obstacles and how ridiculous it all sounds. I never stopped doubting myself. I feel more and more insecure about its success as time goes on and there have been times I just wanted to quit and give up.

tl;dr wrote before I read, all of it Sonic-related, read the comics and that led to me working on something really big that I hope will one day get Archie Comic's attention on the matter.

I suppose I started when I would write stories on scrap paper as a kid, mainly self inserts in video games I'd played.

The first I'd read was around 06 or 07 was on a Mario Forum, and then a couple Pokemon fics.

About a year later I'd started spending quite a bit of time actively digging through fanfiction (mainly HP) and reading them in my free time, which is around the same time I started writing them.

I started reading fanfic in 2001 because I was looking for porn and found M rated stories. Stories were great, because they weren't immediately obvious as porn if my parents saw my screen or browsing history for some reason. Sailor Moon, Inuyasha and Rurouni Kenshin were my favorites at the time.

Eventually I started reading more serious action stories, and then comedies that would mock all the shitty stories I was forced to wade through. I've moved all over the place, from Starcraft, to Legend of Zelda, to Teen Titans, DBZ, Sonic, Super Smash Brothers, finally Harry Potter (for some reason I was unable to read any HP fics until the actual series concluded). I read tons of fanfiction and hate almost all of it.

Every story I ever wrote was in Super Smash Brothers, beginning in 2004 when I didn't understand what paragraphs were. At the time, I would stay up late watching weird obscure horror/drama on Showtime, and SSB horror stories gave me the same vibe. I was hooked. I was never able to make a horror/drama that satisfied me the same way those movies and fanfics would, so I settled for writing shitty comedies and parodies all the time. Nothing I've ever written was good, but when I look back at it I still laugh sometimes.

Reading fanfics? Just December. Ever since I joined the Frozen fandom.

Writing fanfics? Same. December 2013. Been writing stuff way before though.

Been reading fan fiction since 2005 or so. Fire Emblem's tiny community doesn't have many good fanfics but you don't give a fuck when you're in Middle School. Despite having several ideas I've only put out one shitty fanfic around 2006. Recently I've written a chapter or two but I never really gotten around to doing it seriously.

 No.142

Started writing in 2009 (script style, yes yes shitty ikr) and immediately got a strong like for Mew, but stopped in 2010 after I joined a newer forum. (extremely long story)

Started reading in 2012 on FF.net, but I really started writing fanfiction in 2013, rediscovered Brave Little Toaster in June 2013 (YES REALLY!) and started writing fics about the later movies. (finished a To the Rescue fanfic just yet, and now writing a "Goes to the Moon" fic, as a sequel to Goes to Mars)

I also currently am writing a ABDL-related fanfic about a TF2 Medic and a OC from my "Het Naamloze Verhaal", who are both suffering from severe urinary incontinence, one was shot by a newfag Sniper, the other fell of his bike and pierced his bladder.
