So long as it's an actual character with real/believable traits and decent characterization that's treated semi-realistically by the fic then it's not bad by default.

Let random people on the internet read it if you don't want people that know you to recognize yourself in your OC.

And at least there's therapeutic value in shittily self-inserting. Kinda like daydreaming, only in a more permanent and revisit-able way.
