dsfwHave you taken the brown pill yet, mateys?

it's a tough pill to swallow! The brown pill was founded in 1999 by Sir Reginald Brownpill, who presents and narrates the attached video.

Forget red and blue pills, brown pills are the way of the future.

Video related. Please leave your questions, comments, and concerns below about this radical new paradigm of thinking!

Swallow the brown pill today! Red pills are for fedora fucking wearing faggots, blue pills are for the ignorant masses. Ignore the other le epin /pol/ maymays, this one is the readl deal.

Wow, no hsr thread. I shouldn't be surprised.

Posting California HSR in a futile attempt to increase its e-peen.

 No.378

>>360

LA-SD would have been far better starting segment not to mention actually useful.

 No.380

>>360

That's exactly what the HSR plan is. Read it for yourself.

In the HSR plan, Amtrak California and ACE will consolidate as well as electrify and get track upgrades. Caltrain electrifies too and goes to quad tracks doubling their capacity.

The HSR itself is just an excuse to get the money. At this point, the only people against the HSR are rich liberals in Atherton. Even the conservatives in the Central Valley are pro HSR now as the Drought has fucked over their economy and the HSR means jobs.

>>364

Define "HSR", the electric trains will likely be in service as early as 2020 but won't be HSR. HSR itself is planned to be done around 2025, which is when Phase 2 (AC/ACE consolidation) begins. That's a big deal because ACE services a rapidly expanding part of the bay area, so a lot of capital upgrades are needed and most of the money will come from the state (as opposed to Caltrain, which gets most of it's money from local bonds).

 No.381

>>378

Yes, but you see Union Pacific and BNSF want the state to pay for track upgrades on their ROW. That's the dirty secret about the HSR: it's effectively a huge subsidy for the freight rail companies. Passenger rail will get better service, but only if UP/BNSF get their asses wiped.

Anyway to that end, UP and BNSF want lots of capital upgrades in the Central and Tri vallies where most of the track is a century old at this point. The state is willing to come in and rebuild a lot of it, and in exchange they get more efficient passenger services as well as lobbying help to keep the federal money pouring in. The latter is important, as both UP and BNSF post HSR upgrade will be able to run much longer and faster trains from the interior (Nevada and east) into Alameda and LA's port.

Point is, from a larger perspective there's a lot of good reasons why the CV core should be upgraded first. The Tri valley is #2 because it connects the bay area to the capital.

Shinkansen masterrace

 No.398

>>378

Problem is Metrolink has shit management. Caltrain doesn't, and has already done the prep work for electrification (signalling, trackside power upgrades) and is ready to pour concrete for more tracks. Metrolink can't even get their new Rotem cars to work without derailing on switches. As it stands, LA is dumping most of their Measure R money into subways and light rail, and San Diego has shown no interest in funding better LA-SD service.

Thus, the result is that Caltrain gets their fixin's first. ACE too as ACE is also putting up money right now for capital improvements (better bridges, double tracking, grade separation). It's all money.

Also, the SF-LA line needs a *lot* of work. Namely it needs a connection to San Jose from Merced and it needs to connect from Bakersfield to Burbank. That gives the most economic benefits most quickly.

 No.361[Reply]

I have seen railfans make excuses for TML's World Of Subways series but the 4th instatement is just sloppy.

The graphics still are dated and gameplay limited where you can not even walk between cars like you could do in World Of Subways 3.

I just don't get why TML has not improved the games much since the first World of Subways. I also find it funny people think the game takes place in the 1960's and 1970's when the Redbirds were not red till the 1980s yet I can see the confusion as the game doesn't set the period or even have the old liveries when you are doing missions in flashback.

 No.373

The music is awful too. Turned it off. They could have at least licensed something that sounded 60s-70s.

 No.374

File: 1431354992024.jpg (155.59 KB, 700x476, 25:17, R36wf.jpg)

>>373

If they were going for 1960's and 1970's they got the livery wrong. If they wanted the redbird livery and the 1960's/1970's feel they could have done both, simply have the old livery in flashbacks and say that was the 60's-70's yet you do the regular scheduled with the redbirds in the 80's.

Yet the flashbacks have clunky stories and the game does a poor job establishing the period(s) anyway.

It's par for the course with train simulators. Train Simulator 201X is just as bad with dumping buggy disasters with zero disasters onto it's users.

Yet Train Simulator 201X at least looks good and is not dated. And while Trainz has shit frame rates it has a nice map editor.

Imagine an island about two miles wide. Imagine an automated rail system running on a ring network, with four trains that switch between eight stations. Imagine them with regenerative braking and solar panels. Then imagine being a smart jew who charges plebs for special tours of the network and compels non-locals to buy passes.

Are you telling me that the cost of employing the very few people required to maintain the machinery and replace old hardware occassionally would be an unacceptable burden on the local tax rate? Seriously?

Because I think you're full of shit. And I think it would work. And I think that if it can be done on a small controlled scale like that, then there's no reason why you could not scale it up for the Isle of Mann. Perhaps it wouldn't work across a continent, because then Eastern Europeans would steal bits of the track and sell it for scrap, but for urban areas it should be an incredibly efficient and useful system that allows greater utilization of labor and goods.

Fags should be making this happen already.

 No.387

>>382

that's… pretty fucking smart actually. too bad almost everyone here is too corrupt and/or stupid to actually build such systems (and if they aren't, all the corrupt/stupid people will prevent them from building more than a minimal system at best)

>solar panels

You're just another eco hippy. An electric train draws about 1 MW. You need about 5 acres of solar panels to generate 1 MW. Slapping solar panels onto a train is just unnecessary weight.
