I once talked to a friend about this once. We came to a conclusion that most people are able to settle for mediocrity, they tell themselves and end up believing that everything in this world that could be invented is already invented so it isn't a bad thing if they can't make anything "new". Then there are what my friend calls the "passionate" ones, being constantly bothered by our inability to create "new" things. Instead of feeling bothered by it, gather more sources, sources of inspiration and build upon that and keep building and when you execute, you might already have something of your own already.
