I nicked my scalp with the trimmers a couple of times, healed up in about a week with minimal scarring.
I didn't need help, I shaved off all the hair on the sides and parted the back into a row of measured pigtails to cut them down evenly.
Some people were shocked, but my homeroom teacher (I was 17) ruffled my hair and said it was cute.
My mother cried a little, which I felt bad about. Dad didn't give a shit. Grandma's so blind that I just hid it under a hat. My friends though it was really cool and liked to pet my head as soon as it got all fuzzy from the hair growing back.

When my hair gets to a certain length, I get really fucking sick of it so I shave all of it off, nice and smooth. My head's cold for a couple days but then it's awesome and grows pretty fast. Wait until it pisses me off again, repeat forever.
Right now I'm growing it out because my sister's getting married and she said that if I didn't have hair at her wedding, she'd be super pissed. I generally don't shave it in winter anyway because fuck that.
That being said, I'm not a fan of the high back shaved haircuts. I think it looks strange. Side cuts can look good but like with any haircut, not all girls can pull it off. Bobs are cute.
I used to have a narrow mohawk that was 6" long but the upkeep was a pain in the ass and I fucked it up while high so I chopped the whole thing off. It was nice while it lasted.
