Here's how I divvy up eastern and southern europe. The slanted line is drawn at their cross-section, and it's the line which defines which countries at its end cross closer to northern or western europe. Iceland nicely makes it in the north.
To determine if Lithuania is in the north or east, one has to make a line for western europe and see if they can make a similar slant in the other side. No matter how you do it, for Lithuania to end up North you would have to leave Germany in the west, and claim that Central Europe is basically just poland, czech, slovakia and hungary. I can't make myself believe that would be the honest conclusion.

Learn some history, please. Poland unwillingly belonged to the East during Cold War. During rest of the time it was a purely western country.
We're Roman Catholics, we write with Latin script, most people associate us more with Germans than Russians and so on. Hungary and Austria were one state for much of their history. That also means Czechs, Slovaks, Slovenes Croats are western as well.
Romania and Moldova are problematic here. They're stuck between East and West, but I say they're Eastern (Orthodoxy). Same with Bulgaria where there's no doubt where they belong.
Baltic States basically are western, especially Estonia.
Ukraine and Belarus are Eastern as fuck and no one will deny this. I say: ex-communist countries can be grouped as Eastern Europe if and only if one says Russia is Asia.
So yes. Poland is Western. Prove me wrong.
