I think there's a difference between having legit interest on things and doing it to absorb attention. Plenty of males here engage in discussions pertaining the sex.

While the male lurkers do compose a lot of the board's traffic, the actual poster ratio is fairly balanced.

Then it went up, because when I checked it the numbers were pretty even.

My point still stands though. Usually when males bring up their identity here it regards the discussion that is being had, very few losers do it for the attention. Or so I like to believe.

You should take a look at the fashion and makeup threads. It's full of guys letting us know that they're guys and don't like xyz. Imagine if women did this shit on /fit/ or /v/

It's not quite the same. First, appearance is not the only reason for working out. Secondly, everyone already knows what kind of body women like. That said, I don't have a problem with women commenting in fitness threads.

I'm going to tell you a little secret that will blow your mind. A lot of women wear makeup for sun protection (to prevent sun damage and ergo aging). Most women wear VERY light makeup. Just a tinted moisturiser, maybe something to make the lashes look a little bigger, maybe some girly lipgloss that smells like strawberries because it's cute.

Why do guys have such a huge issue with that? I mean, makeup has been around for hundreds if not thousands of years (they still use good old mud in certain parts of africa).

I get that guys think they know better than women, even in regards to something women read and talk about A LOT, but it's not always true. Sometimes women do know better, especially when it comes to girly shit men shouldn't even care about, and that's sadly symptomatic of the degeneracy of modern western culture. Men who want their women to look like men. Men who want their women to wear trousers, be equal, have messy hair, no pretty nails, no makeup. If you want to be 'ultrafeminine' you're branded as a bimbo.

It's actually quite sad.

Oh dear.

Anyway, I don't think most men have an issue with makeup. So what if a few do? It's not a big deal.

>If you want to be 'ultrafeminine' you're branded as a bimbo.

Well, frankly, if you're over the age of 12 and your idea of femininity boils down to lipgloss and painted nails, you deserve it.

I never said lipgloss and pretty nails were ALL that entails femininity? I wasn't aware that I was supposed to list all the traits, including non-physical ones which embody femininity. I simply listed some superficial ones, since this is what we're talking about.

If you'd like to discuss what I and/or some other anons think embodies the concept of 'femininity' we can, things like 'pretty nails' and 'lipgloss' are very superficial and small things, but they're relevant in light of the makeup/fashion threads, which is what we were talking about.

If there was a 'baby raising' thread, then I would have mentioned maternal instinct, being a good mother, breastfeeding etc. This is not relevant to makeup though.

Anyway, how can you say no to makeup? I mean look at this beautiful woman. I want to look just like her.

Fitness is partially for female attention, but also for you know to have a stronger body that can do enjoyable but strenuous activities.

So actually in regards to working out, yeah female input as to what kind of body is most attractive would matter somewhat and actually be relevant.

Hobbies are not for attracting women, they're for enjoyment.

>>50755
Is totally correct that male opinions on female fashion and makeup are actually on topic and can be valuable.

>>50765
Then use sunblock.

You're using make up to alter or "enhance" your looks. For some people getting outside feedback from a person they hope to impress is a good thing.

If you disagree with their feedback or if you think they're uninformed compared to you, by all means disagree or even look down on their opinion. But they have a right to their opinion as wrong as it is.

You're not a bimbo for being ultrafeminine, but other girls like to eat that kind of story up. It's not guys who care about that, it's all the girls who feel less feminine and attractive than you. They want to be the hero in a story from time to time but even in their imagination they know they're more like an Arya to your Sansa. They enjoy seeing their tomboy do more than your prissy pretty girl. It's just like those stories for guys where there are guys they can see themselves in and they're not some kind of elite badass perfectionists, they're misfits, slobs, and underdogs, yet they win.

strawpolls can easily be manipulated so they're not accurate really, but in this particular instance;

of a population of like 450 on /fem/, 9% and 11% of both females and males contribute, 10% of females lurk, 65% of males lurk, 3% of transgendered people [mtf or ftm, irrelevant] lurk, and 2% of transgender people contribute.

that falls pretty well in line of various trends already known in stats, such as transgender people making up 1% of a given population, things like the 1% rule, where 1% makes actual content, 9% post, and 90% lurk.

that being said,

there's also various issues with the strawpoll in regards to things such as sampling bias or response bias- 'contribute' could mean 1 post to the user in question answering- when that really isn't contributing per say.

The female audience going off-site seems very passive and open to abuse of circlejerking with ideas and concepts (read: reddit). This hugboxing escalates on even more censored sites like tumblr, where if you mention anything outside of a G-PG political correctness you get banned/hated/cutoff. I hate censorship, but I guess I can understand the reasoning.

Granted, chan sites are pretty horrific sometimes, but they do give a person a more accurate and thus, depressing/fearful view of the world. Maybe girls can't handle that as well as males; I remember when I was younger surfing /b/ with all of the gore/feces/death/fetish porn was quite eye opening. I honestly don't know if I can surf like that anymore, even if I tried. It was like an immersion of horror from the comfort of an office chair, and to this day those images serve as a reminder to look and be sharp.

Just another male post, but I like the idea of this board, even if I'm just passing through. It seems like it's tough for everyone right now :/

My introduction to imageboards was 420chan's /i/ board, which displayed random gore images as the background. Being a scrubling, I didn't know how to switch CSS, so I just sat there trying and failing to stare through the awful pictures. This continued far longer than I'd like to admit.

And yeah, I met most of these girls through obscure forums when I was younger. They all browse reddit and imgur now.

It's a pretty jarring fact that the best humor comes out of the most horrific content. They say laughing is a defense mechanism to combat fear and injury.

Reddit seems to be a site where all of the horror is removed and the humor is nice and clean, for everyone and their 50 year old soccer-mother to view. I hate how smug a site like that is because Reddit users have no idea how them gosh-darned funny maymays came to be.

Imgur is even worse; for every funny picture, there is a sob-story about some stupid animal or hospital visit. Add in memes and it's 'entertainment' akin to daytime television commercials. Like life is so fucking hard that a cat dies or a leg broke and the only way to rectify it is with upvotes.

Still, I'd rather visit both of the aforementioned sites than some online communities. There is nothing to prevent a hugbox site from spreading delusions, like the SJW crowd on tumblr, or various creative sites in general. Just observations I suppose, 8chan reminds me of the early days of 4chan, nice and quiet for now with some sharp minds.

d63164 No.50963

Aren't there tons of boards on reddit with horrible stuff? As far as I know it's like 8chan; people make their boards and post shit there under their set of rules with some global ones. Or are the global ones super strict?

1fd57d No.50969

>>50963

I'm not sure because I rarely visit Reddit, and imgur crashes my browser after about 100 pics. I do know there are some pretty graphic sub-reddits, and probably a couple specific mods to manage those boards. as long as it's not 'illegal,' it's probably posted.

That's another troubling thing to think about: what exactly constitutes 'legal' and what is to stop a group of delusional people from suddenly making content illegal?

d63164 No.50970

>>50969
I'm not trying to defend reddit but you should get informed before trying to argument against it. That sounds like here, what keeps board owners or hotwheels from just shitting out new rules?

I think the defining bad thing about reddit would be the whoring-out-your-mentality for "points" thing and getting vote-spammed for not agreeing with the board's hivemind. The worst people can do here is sage, but that simply makes up a reply without bumping the thread.

810cc6 No.50973

It's mostly a difference in culture. Consider how this board is generally pretty laid back, but /pol/ often bleeds in. Similarly, reddit has its obscure dark corners, but the standard issue redditor uniform comes with mandatory kid gloves.

To get back on topic, though, there was another post somewhere on /fem/ about a girl being spooked by the number of men on here and leaving. Problem is, the other active boards tend to be too intense, to put it diplomatically. /b/, /pol/ and /cow/ can be fun, but only in small doses. I don't really care about gamergate. Although /cyber/ is neat, it's a bit insubstantial and slow as molasses. This place has a comfortable pace and pretty ok discussion. I would genuinely like to leave if I'm shitting the place up for its intended users, but I'm not sure where I would go.

1fd57d No.50975

>>50970

Yeah, I'm not too interested in Reddit in general, and I can't talk too much shit about the site because it changes and does showcase universally good content. I'd imagine if I wasn't a loser surfing this site, I'd have a job and at that job I'd be forced to surf Reddit because of company rules or whatever.

I guess I want to say it's a good site, but it seams like a preview of what internet culture is becoming: sites with it's own culture, battling other sites. That's just competition, but some dangerous groups can have the same power of influence.

I agree with the hivemind upvotes: it genuinely bothers me sometimes.

Pick one.
But really the problem is that the anonymity on /fem/ is overrun by faggots so obviously male that you can hear the combined slaps of their balls dropping, as they reach the age and maturity corresponding with the quality of their posts. When they can post anything relevant to female interests it doesn't matter if they're male because then they won't be whoring for attention with it. But commonly they are de-contributing and generally acting like newfags about issues any woman would think is obvious. On these terms it should be obvious why the ostensible appeal of a /fem/ board would be ruined for anybody.

I had hope for it, but I can't see too much changing. Some are pissed and defensive that women use the internet and feel as if their space has been invaded, yet do all in their power to invade this place and barely contribute anything worthwhile. Some of us come online just to fart around, not deal with threads being derailed because someone gets triggered and likens something we say to that girl he couldn't fuck in high school.

Absolutely, you're absolutely right.

I think a fair amount of the ones who would refer to themselves as betas are often not as annoying. It's the polsters injecting racism, shitposting, derailing, insults and politics. It's the one's who probably try to think of themselves as alphas but they're not, they're just trying to feel better by being toxic assclowns to everyone else. It's the ones with not just a little chip, but a massive chip on their shoulder and a grudge that's gone wrong and festered over something they feel went wrong for them about women. It's as if they women on this board are the ones who did it and must pay by being yelled at.

You're absolutely right about the delicate male ego lashing out in ugly ways feeling all triggered.

This board could use a lot of purging and more positive contributions and content.

When girls have tried to create positive threads, they almost always get derailed and ruined. I had one go from totally civil, with all of the girls being as sweet as possible and then guys came in and felt the need to get condescending for literally no reason. It wound up devolving into shitposting and off-topic content. And, it was disgusting because for all of my life I was told how catty women are and yet these guys were cattier fuckers than anyone else on here. Of course, the moment I pointed out something that some bitch ass didn't agree with he does and accuses me of being an SJW.

It even says in the F.A.Q. sticky that things like baiting, loaded questions, antagonizing, and shitposting aren't permitted and yet they stay under the guise of "debate." Derailing entire threads just because you want to call women "whores" isn't debate. Bitching and moaning in threads about makeup and fashion, as if it's so fucking outlandish that you're seeing these topics discussed on a FEMALE board, isn't debate. Sure, you could debate why you think women use makeup, but even then your efforts are going to be in vain because you'll get the same three answers:

>They are insecure.

>It's to impress us mens!
>It's because they just like makeup?

Pic related, fucking seriously.

Men who come here are guests in a space reserved for women and guests, like fish, begin to stink in three days.

> for all of my life I was told how catty women are and yet these guys were cattier fuckers than anyone else on here

I'm sorry. I don't like how they're acting. You're right.

Too many of these men are ultimately showing what assholes they are and no one should give any weight or care to what they say.

There are quite a few nice men, but there's a point at which too many rotten assholes outweigh the good. A vocal minority of shit posters can sometimes outweigh the positive contributions of the rest.

It's not that we need stricter rules, but enforcing just the rule against shit posting by banning and deleting would change things for the better.

If people want to shit post and yell at women they can make their own space for that.

>>51212
How relevant is racism and most politics here? How much do you think women want some very angry assholes yelling extremist shit at them?

Pointless unfunny shit posting, derailing, and insults aren't helping. They aren't some sort of positive force for a healthy functioning image board.

They can enjoy their freedom to be an asshole over in their own space.

With all their might and effort?

Nobody is this fucking stupid, specifically trying to install a hugbox into the least hugboxy environment in the world. If you want to not be yelled at you can go literally anywhere else and have better odds at getting that, by random chance alone. Be you woman or man never comes into it.

And politics, on a make-up thread, on /fem/, that shit is like stars aligning. It's an occasion I wouldn't imagine happening anywhere else, 'tis appropriate as fuck.

There's a FAQ with the stated intentions for the board and rules to follow.

It's not making a place into a hugbox to enforce civility and curtail shit posting. No one is preventing criticism, or disagreement. No one is making you have to love your fellow posters or circlejerk.

But yes, this sadly not a good environment for this particular kind of fun relaxed informal discussion space.

This. If there was one thing I learned in my time lurking /cgl/, it's that it only takes one person to bitch and then everyone else takes that as a cue to also start bitching. Thread gets derailed and depending on how frequent this is or how poor the moderation is at handling it, people begin to feel alienated and eventually stop coming altogether.

As a guy, I am sick of those stories. I resent being told to empathize with a caricature of all my worst traits and everything about myself that I wish was different. I'm insulted when I'm given a useless lump of a "protagonist" with no skills or redeeming qualities and told to identify with that.

It is. The internet in general is a male-oriented space anywhere outside brain-dead social media sites.

The majority of women don't seem to give much of a fuck about anything but dicks and how many they can stuff into their cunt. It upsets me, because I vehemently wish it were not the case, but other women continuously prove me wrong.

Good evening. Tonight on 'It's the Mind', we examine the phenomenon of déjà vu. That strange feeling we sometimes get that we've lived through something before, that what is happening now has already happened.

Let me tell you the story of the best female board ever existed.

At the very beginning of 2009, central Russian imageboard 2ch.ru was shut down by its creators, presumably because it turned to cancerous shit completely. Refugees populated smaller imageboards and created a chain of new ones. One of the oldest existing imageboards was 0chan.ru, geek-oriented (two software and three hardware technology boards, video embeds, JS extensions, etc.), hosted on a server under admin's bed, not so fast and going down pretty often, thus creating its motto “no one gives a fuck”. Later, it got “2.0chan”, a custom engine allowing anyone to create his own board (but in a different hierarchy from main boards). 0chan was seen by its users as an elite gathering place for patrician Anonymous, as opposed to underage cancer on rival “fake 2ch” (still alive, now at 2ch.hk) that welcomed publicity and advertised itself as a cool place on social networks. (Have you noticed similarities yet?)

In August 2009, someone started a fad to invert gender image of the imageboards, suggested a rule “there are no boys on the internet”, demanded everyone to use feminine word forms and call each other “sisters”. After a couple of days and a couple of party mild threads someone created a board for girls, _dev, and news about it were soon shared everywhere. First days were made of shitstorm and fun because it became one of the most active places of all imageboards while maintaining its strict rule: men are lowly creatures and their opinions worth nothing unless woman want to know them. There was a containment thread for stupid male questions and everything else was inexorably deleted. No posts about “that one girl I crushed on”, no posts about boobs someone likes, no thinly veiled presumptions that female Anonymous look or dream to look like Suicide Girls, no asking for IM contacts, no Very Important Sentiments The Whole World Must Know About. On the other hand, everyone could participate in a theoretical discussion of everything, including those rules, and level of discussion was high. There were actual female users starting threads on topics they were actually interested in — and everything else — and the atmosphere was very much the same it was in Good Old Days.

Initial impulse and developed momentum was so big the board continued to be active and fun for more than a year until it was wiped together with all other boards around New Year of 2011. In years to come, 0chan would got wiped multiple times, be DDoS'ed and unavailable for longer and longer periods of time, and finally die. Rest in peace, mint-flavored chan. Attempt to copy the idea and create a female board on 2ch.hk failed due to quality of community and inadequate moderation, the result is as shitty as this very board. Even /cgl/ is better option for girls.

Thus, the receipt is obvious: take real females and let them remove everything they've already read a hundred times from males on imageboards. I'd say such posts are quite noticeable.
