Hey femanons, so it seems that I'm going into that phase where you want to treat your body to something nice instead of just using soap and nothing else. Started shopping at Body Shop but there's also Lush right nearby. What are your opinions on both of these in general? I got this thing couple of days ago, a but unusual that you have to apply it on dry skin, so can't say I have solid opinion on it. Any particular scrubs you enjoy?

I'm gonna try this stuff soon and will probably go for some St. Ives Apricot 'cus it seems quite good and reasonably priced. Korres stuff seems very praised, but I probably can't afford any of that.

41240a No.56368

Some bodyshop stuff is great. I love their moisturising creams (great smell, few irritants, reasonable price). Their peppermint foot spray thing is cute too, oh and the facial washes work well enough.

The makeup tends to be a bit shit though. Not worth it for the makeup.

Never heard about either of these shops, anon, had to check them out. Both of these are murrican shops though, so I only found their stuff on amazon

I don't really do make up, so that's something I won't have to deal with. They do have some nice-looking lip balms though

Soap is bad for your skin, but are exfoliating scrubs a scam? I notice a lot of scam shit like cheap lotions that leave a film residue to give the illusion of softer skin.

f148d5 No.56454

>>56453
no, exfoliating scrubs aren't a scam, but there's no need for them to be pricy– they're the same basic stuff.

you're right that cheap lotions contain things that just make it see like the skin is beingmoisturized. these are usually heavy on silicones and the like, look for ingredients that are humectants… lotion is pretty basic though, there's not a huge difference in terms of ingredients between a low end and high end one (except random things like plant extracts and stuff) but formulation is a big deal.

All cosmetics are a scam. The best way to look good is to focus on your diet and get plenty of sunlight.

That's not to say there aren't genuinely good plants and minerals that have beneficial effects on your skin when applied topically.

f148d5 No.56456

>get plenty of sunlight

sunlight is good for you in a lot of ways, uv rays are antibacterial and can help with acne, but they can be hit or miss with skin tone: tans can really make a person look great, but on some they can just highlight skin tone problems and acne scars.

sun is also the absolute worst thing for aging…which is a concern for many women, since unfortunately we do not really age well, unlike men.

198f0b No.56457

>>56456
You won't have acne if you adjust your diet as it is your body just trying to remove toxins through the excretory organ available to it. (Most common things that trigger it appear to be dairy and wheat from what I've found.)

Eating shit and being unhealthy is the worst thing for aging not sunlight which we have, quite literally, evolved to co-exist with. I don't advocate excessive tanning (Which will damage your skin) just spend some time in the sun. (The time spent and at what time you should go into the sun is gonna depend on time of the year and your ancestry compared to where you are currently located. Sucks to be white here.)

I don't have acne and I didn't even mention diet… there are very weak medical links that verify that diet causes acne. Some correlation? Sure.

that said, I eat a healthy diet consisting of lots of fresh vegetables and fruit, i'm active, and I don't have acne… currently.

You're forgetting about a main cause of acne: hormones. This is beyond the control of a lot of people. My doctor put me on a high androgen bc pill and I broke out like crazy. It's fixed now, of course, but hormones play a HUGE role in acne.

I wasn't really talking about acne anyway, I was talking about more long term effects on the skin such as wrinkles, collagen loss, etc. which excessive sunlight will actually do more than just an unhealthy lifestyle. There are fat women who sit inside all day eating chips and have great skin.

Which brings in another factor, which little can be done about: genes.

You're right that unfortunately here it's hard to get the right amount of sun- it easily becomes excessive. There's a reason that people say 'the average Australian goes from 17 to 35'

>Acne and diet
Oh, I didn't realise that this is another fact the allopathic industry lies about to sell their drugs. (Seems to be sugars and other foods with a high GI, too.) I didn't mean to imply that you had it, just bad wording on my part.

Ask yourself why our multi-billion dollar medical industry that makes money off of sickness and disease (Including acne drugs) would lie to you about proper health.

>On hormones

Diet dictates how well your body works and the quantity of hormones it produces.

>On supplemented hormones

>https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/whi/estro_pro.htm (The summaries 404 but the links under actually work)

>Genes

Gluten, dairy and high GI foods are something that is relatively common in certain parts of the world and others haven't had it for as long. I'd argue that genes come into it by giving some a slight tolerance to the detrimental effects of certain foods.

It's really nice that you're providing us with all these links, but I think most of us are aware on how diet affects hormones, supplementing hormones and genes. (asians and milk usually don't go well together). You can like handcreams and have a basic understanding on how to take care of your body.

If you want to talk about creams and such, that's cool, if you want to shitpost, that's not cool.

I just want a cute handcream that smells really nice. Why are you using this as an instance to soapbox about something we are also very aware of (that cosmetics are overpriced and overprocessed)?

Maybe I don't mind paying that price for not having to bother with making my own handcream. I like the strong smells bodyshop has, and at 10 quid a pop, I have enough cream to last me more than a year.

I don't give a shit about what you have to say about this, as you weren't the person I was talking to.

>if you want to shitpost, that's not cool.

>Me talking about the reality of our world is shit-posting
lel

>Why are you using this as an instance to soapbox about something we are also very aware of (that cosmetics are overpriced and overprocessed)?

Because no-body else mentioned it and you don't need to resort to cosmetics to look good. Also it's pointless once you realise that skin is a pretty damn good reflection of internal health and that taking care of that will reflect on your external appearances.

>I like the strong smells bodyshop has, and at 10 quid a pop, I have enough cream to last me more than a year.

That's nice and all but as I've been trying to say, you don't need it if you're healthy.

>Switzerland

Coincidence/10.

In the time I've been away, I've had a a man from there tell me about how his wife of 21 years left him cause he got cancer despite the family that they started and the relationship they had.

Fucking lol

What? Are you trying to say that swiss women are evil? A bit cold, sure, but I don't think most would leave their spouse due to cancer.

I'm not even swiss anyway, I just live in switzerland.

Since you're from australia, I hope you're slathering on that sun screen. I've always wanted to go, but the koalas and the sun terrify me.

After 21 years and 2 children, he didn't think that either. If you had actually read my post I said it is a "coincidence".

It's like you are completely ignorant of the ingredients used in it.

What are your fav creams?

I love the atlas mountain one, it smells so nice and lasts for a long time. It's like a cheap solid perfume.

Pretty much shilling for lush right now; pic related.

There's this brick called 'coal face' (lol) and it smells so bizarre in an excellent way. It's like a very mild face cleanser. And it last forever. For ever. All you need everyday is a tiny sliver. It's so, mmmm.

The stuff called 'Big' is a shampoo of coconut and sea salt. It's so salty and thick (l0l), and my hair smells subtly coconutty for days after.

For that little tub called 'Skin drink', it's a bit of a rip off. 30.00 CAD for it. Made of sesame oil and avacado. I've only been buying it it because I'm hesitant of change.

The Body Shop is great as well, tho I suspect they use more processed ingredients compared to Lush. I'm just being a brand whore though.

Also get this shit if you can. Comes in a paint tube because it's srs business. It's the thickest cream ever ok? Y-you can't even imagine it borders on trippy, how solid it is. After using it my mouse and keyboard are unusable for half an hour, because they'd be coated in oils if touched.
