Take your body weight in pounds, and multiply it by 11. This is how many calories your body burns by just existing. Eat less than that daily and you will lose weight, simple as that. Throw in some exercise and you can speed things up.

not a grill, but from all the girls i have known over the years who have tried and struggled with losing weight, the problem is not the meals they eat, or even the exercise they do, for the most part they are pretty good with that stuff, the problem is eating in between meals.

don't drink soft drinks (and alcohol if you can avoid it), just drink water and low calorie drinks like tea.

don't eat snacks, at all, you don't need them, they are useless calories.

don't eat deserts or sweets, you'll get used to it after a few weeks.

don't eat fast food, make your own meals at home, even if they are simple, a vege heavy stir fry is easy and quite healthy.

eat slowly if you can and have smaller portions.

it takes your brain about half an hour to become aware of food in your stomach, so eating more slowly can help you to feel full before eating too much.

diet is about 70% of weight loss, fad diets rarely work, you can eat healthily and in a balanced way and lose weight quite effectively.

couple that with as much exercise as you can fit in comfortably and you'll notice losses quite quickly.

don't overdo things, it's better to have slower a loss rate which is sustainable than lose 5 kilos and then give up and gain it back again.

another point is that getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of water, and reducing stress in your life, can all help to maintain a healthy metabolism and help to lose weight.

Your body is 90% what you eat and 10% how active you are. Start by switching permanently to a healthy diet and do at least 30-60 minutes of cardio a day. This is the bare minimum of what you should do, and will likely take a few months depending on how overweight you are.

Also, seeing as how some grills are confused/worried about this, don't worry about working out leading to big muscles and looking like one of those gross bodybuilder "women". It's not biologically possible for a woman to ever be as ripped as a man unless you take steroids or something.

Honestly, just download my fitness pal, buy a food scale, a normal scale, and a measuring tape, and track everything.

Low calorie high bulk foods are great for eating tons without calories, but eat whatever, but keep an eye on macros. MFP breaks it all down for you.

Lunch for me was 3 cheese sticks and a diet coke (dat caffeine addiction). 250 calories. OH TEH NOES.

The most important thing about changing from obese to healthy is that it's a lifestyle change. Your changing attitude towards food or laziness is going to change who you are at some point and you need to be ready to accept that you'll be a different person.

I lost 50 lbs last year by going vegan and clean eating. It helped a lot because I binge, and binging on veggies is a lot better than binging on shit.

Other than obvious things, like stop eating junk food/soda, the biggest thing that helped me was learning how to cook meals and be more flexible. As long as you're having fun making healthy, delicious meals, you'll enjoy losing weight.

The human body is a machine. The reason people don't find calories in/calories out useful is because either they're counting incorrectly, they think calories are the only things that matter/all calories are equal(protein, fats, vitamins, minerals), or they're cheating. It is a closed system and to say otherwise is laughably naive and deluded. It is a very complex and sentient machine but that does not exclude it from basic physics. Being fat does not mean a person is automatically insulin resistant so that entire part of your comment is pointless.

OP, before you exercise or commit to any large diet changes, go to a doctor and get a full checkup. Make sure that you don't have any hidden medical conditions and even if you do, then you can go into your weight loss goal informed and ready for possible complications. It is still entirely possible for people with issues to become a healthy weight in a healthy manner. You can do it and you can have the change you want. It might not be easy but it is well worth the effort.

That's my point. The fact that two foods of equivalent caloric content don't have the same effect on the body negates calories in/calories out.

On insulin resistance; obviously there are degrees of it. The starvation example is just an easy way to illustrate how silly calories in/out is. However, a fat person is almost necessarily more resistant than a skinny person, all other things being equal.

And I don't think you understand what a closed system is in the context of thermodynamics. The fact that machines, humans included, can do anything relies on them not being closed systems.

If you eat too little you risk getting sick, and then eating more because lack of will. If you exercise too much (and do the wrong exercises) you risk hurting yourself (pretty common one for fat people is ruining your knees because trying to run since it seems like an easy exercise)
