I feel like the problem with clothing is certain styles tend to be worn most by certain types of people. You won't catch your typical chad out in public wearing skinny jeans, MLP shirts and rollershoes. The same goes for the average woman who actually wants to be physically attractive to the opposite sex. Women who actually embrace femininity without feeling they need to balance it out with sweatpants, kool-aid clown hair and paperweights in their earlobes.
Dress how you want to dress, if that's how you feel on the inside, but if you're going to do that then you need to stop caring about being attractive and start caring about being yourself.
You can't please everybody, no. However, if you're going to care about pleasing enough of the general populace that dating feels more like fishing in a lake than a bucket, you're going to have to stop thinking it's all about you and whatever you feel most comfortable presenting yourself in.
At the very least, even if the fish you hook isn't quite keen on your more comfortable wardrobe, knowing how to dress to impress makes it that much easier to find someone who will.
