When I made this template, I put the Capcom on the first rows, SNK, then 3D fighters. HftF on the 3D section doesn't make any sense. So, removing it and putting Pokkén instead should make more sense.

But I messed up. I put too many games. This should have a 4x8 grid top.

I think the subject deserves a thread, here. This is a fighting game subgenre, after all. As well as a group of sports game.

In fact, most of those games, like THQ's UFC or WWE All-Stars were inspired by Virtua Fighter and other big FG franchises. So, why the fuck not?

A couple weeks ago I said I'd talk with a stick-modder friend and make an Arcade Stick Buying Guide for /v/. Well, it's here.

External link because the image is too tall for the board (and there's not way in hell I'm remaking it):

It took me two days to make this image and now I understand why these chan guides look like shit.

Anyway, hope it's helpful.

Is it possible to repurpose a keyboard's PCB/Input to use as an arcade stick/Hitbox?

All I'm using it for is a portable PC fighting game controller for BlazBlue/Skullgrils/KoF/GGXrd/SFIV on steam

 No.7910

>>7907

You mean, take a keyboard and make it work as a controller on consoles?

I saw that is doable, but I don't have any idea how.

 No.7915

>>7910

Nah, I meant take the keyboard/Numpad, rip the keys off, put it in a case with arcade buttons and a stick which goes to said keys, and use it instead of an actual keyboard.

 No.7918

>>7915

But, why don't you use softwares like XPadder? That'll remap your controller buttons into keyboard keys.

No need to do hardware modifications to do that.

>smash isn't a fighting game
>pokken isn't a fighting game
Why do people keep argueing this?
I hoped people stoped argueing this since is pretty obvious the platformer fighter is a subgenre of fighting games.

Why do people won't accept there is a subgenre called platformer fighter?
Is like they haven't played the sony smash, the all star jump DS game and the one piece/naruto/DBZ crossover smash game.

Why the haven't accepted arena fighters are another subgenre?

Stuff like the gumdam vs, naruto fighters, the castlevania fighter and pokken are arena fighters.

Why do people can't accept something so simple?

Yeah, but Smash is a physical sandbox.

The learning curves of most fighting game is mostly situational. Like that, you can predict what your oponent will do. 2D fightans are digital. 8 directions, a few jumps, big hitbox/stage ratio, etc.

In Smash, you can still do like that, especially on edgeguard. But footsies (neutral) are so messy… Everything is analogical. You've got hitBUBBLES, for god's sake.

 No.7908

Smash bros is the Binding of Isaac of Fighters.

Yes, many people call it a fighting game, but it changes enough of the formula to be something different. Smash takes the basic premise of a fighting game (people smacking each other), but explores it at a very different angle.

It also reminds me of Splatoon when compared to other third-person shooters.

Programmer here.

>>7586

>input buffers

Just add an input queue. On each frame, translate input device state to game input and add all to the queue.

On one frame you have down pressed, adds "down" to queue. Next frame you have down and forward pressed, adds "down-forward" to queue. Next you have forward and weak punch pressed, adds "forward" and "weak-punch" to queue. Pattern matching runs on all frames; finds "down", "down-forward", "forward", "weak-punch" in that exact order and proceeds to dequeue all input and enqueue "fireball". After some configurable amount of frames, game dequeues input from the queue and executes it.

It's a pretty cool parsing problem. Fighting games have grammar. You need a simple online parsing algorithm and suddenly you have a data-driven fighting game engine.

Some people back at /fgg/ were talking about how this new board kinda splits us all up, and I semi agree. But the thread always blew up when a tournament or a good stream was on. I figured a thread specifically for that would be nice so as not to flood the other threads.
