Street Fighter V has been announced!Systema and Marie Rose (DOA)
I noticed both Wikia and Wikipedia (and even a YouTube combo guide) make the claim that the fighting style of the petite (shortest at 4'10", flattest chest with 29"/22"/30" guessing waist and hips also smallest) Marie Rose from Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Arcade, uses Systema.
I would like to investigate what evidence actually exists for this claim. How do we know some fan didn't just make it up because they knew of Systema and decided that it resembled this?
Given that Marie is from Sweden, it seems odd she would train in something associated with Russia.
Does anyone in the game ever utter the word Systema? Is it used in a manual? Do the Japanese designers of the game ever refer to it? Where did the association between Marie and Systema originate? Is it possibly introduced by some Russian trying to popularize their art?
Could anyone reassure me with a screenshot or something like an ingame profile saying 'systema' next to 'fighting style' or something so I can let this paranoia go?

I think the subject deserves a thread, here. This is a fighting game subgenre, after all. As well as a group of sports game.
In fact, most of those games, like THQ's UFC or WWE All-Stars were inspired by Virtua Fighter and other big FG franchises. So, why the fuck not?

Martial Arts Fightans
When it comes to fiction in general, I prefer the works where most of the characters use a martial art found in real life over the works where most of the characters use an unspecified fighting style/metahuman ability.
So I ask you anons this question. Can you tell me which fighting game series contain a cast of characters where the majority of said characters practice some real life martial arts fighting styles?
Old characters or New characters? Story-driven fighters or a Dream Match?
Hey /fighters/, are you guys like to prefer having a fighters with a plot (but in sequels, they'll add new characters…) or dream-matches (with tons and tons of characters' fanservices)?

Yesterday, I learn the "Holy Trinity" in WoW. I never played that game or any MMOs, but basically, it's the 3 types of characters you need to have to be efficient in a raid or a dungeon : a Healer, a Tank, a Damage Dealer (DPS).
So, I was wondering what would be the fighting game version of the "Holy Trinity". Like what type of characters do I need to have in a game, to be a minimum diverse?
My first guess was Zoners, Rushdown, Grapplers. I don't know if I'm right.

They've got an official name and a crowdfunding campagn starter date, now.
For all of you that doesn't know, that was the guys behind My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic, before Hasbro shuts down the project. They decided to reimagine the game after it with new characters. Mike Z helped them and, thanks to the Skullgirls: Encore indiegogo campagn, give them for free the right to code a game on Lab Zero's Z-Engine, the Skullgirls Engine, After that, Lauren Faust, the original creator of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, called them to create the original characters for them.
This will still be the same gameplay as FiM, inspired by Marvel VS Capcom and Blazblue, but with quadruped characters.
Are there any fighting game where you can switch between two characters at any time?
Like the maids on melty blood but you can actually pick both characters and without the restriction on having to clap their hands?
Like a smash 4 character match but you can control two characters or at least switching them with a button?
It's just an idea I'm having right now.
I'm sure there will be so much nasty shit that way, but I'm sure It'll be extremelly fun.

So, I've just read that and I feel inspired.
I'm a drawfag and I'm drawing some sprites hoping to find a coder.
I just dream about making my own fighter, but I've always had a problem about the gameplay.
I've always wanted to make a game about combos, and having all kind of diferent shit to make the most original combo.
So, after reading that, I've come to this idea:
1) A regenerative life bar, like practice mode.
This sounds fine, since droping combos will mean the oponent life regenerates.
But I have some problems with the time out or wining condition, I have these ideas:
2) A sort of score system for all conected hits.
3) The time out solution of divekick.
I like the score system because it goes into hand in hand with a more traditional aspect of fighters and can be tweak to provide for more original combos, like some repetition punishment.
But the time out is good because it allow for fast shit, so I though maybe you could win a match if you stood 5-10 seconds just in the center charging a bar.

/fighters/ Can you help me find pictures of MvC2 cabinets? It's for a project to paint the coin bank that came with SFxT to look like a real MvC2 cab. All the pictures I'm finding are of cannibalized cabs with MvC2 boards in them. I need good pictures of the graphics on the side of the machines.
Let's have a serious discussion about this.
I am of the opinion that while both have their good and bad points, it all comes down to what the player is personally used to. There isn't a very long list of things that a player can't do on a gamepad (D-Pad) that they can do on a stick and vice versa.
So tell me,

I have one of these sticks.
I know how to change the buttons, and change the joystick, and all that. I've taken it apart before.
But what I was curious about, was if I wanted to replace the graphic and the trim (or get rid of the trim all together) is there a place that custom cuts and prints the art? It's some sort of plastic.
Also, this might sound like a stretch but can I replace the casing at all? How much of the stick can I tinker with?

So, let's go full autist and let's talk about HUDs!
6 personal opinions to start with:
- I HATE when games put their HUD too high on the screen. MKX did that and it's fucking ugly. Looks like very impratical for streamers too.
- I'd like to look at a single zone when I play, so, I really like it when we've a Skullgirls-like meter indicator. Just between the life is great.
- Looking the damage while you make a combo looks great, but in Tekken and VF, when you do 2 combos quicly enough to not let the red bar disappear, you can't really judge how your second combo does takes. That's why the SoulCalibur V lifebar's perfect for that.
- Showing a color difference between perfect bar, mid bar and danger bar is fancy and cool as fuck.
- Skullgirls' "leader" indicator should be in EVERY FG HUDs ever. Period. Not like that, tho. That can make it fancy, too.
- When the game have a breakable guard, we should show an indicator on the HUD. The guard bar's great, but I like what they did in Vanguard Princess. Everything is simply pointed out; life, stun, guard…
