Capcom really don't want to be out of the Fighting game market for 8th gen.
Ono says they wanted to put the ink thing on SF4. Since they can't do that on 7th, they wait the 8th to really do that.
And with the same recipe : comeback mecanics, lots of animations, cruel lack of balance, other versions of the game and they didn't even let time to Ultra to make a good impression, at least one year.
I hated the fact that Tekken 7 do the same thing, but now, since SF made it, every other licences are going to do the same and scrap again the hole genre, once again.

At least with Tekken, the rage mechanic was based on Risk/Reward. It only triggers the last 15% of lifebar so if you get knocked into that state, you are natuarlly going to become aggressive and push more to try win while the opponent can take advantage of you making a mistake to win the round. It's based in player psychology on top of game mechanics and balances out.

But then that was the same with KOF 94/95. Get knocked into critical state and you get unlimited supers and L3 Supers if your meter was charged. That worked fine too.

It's just that Capcom's mechanics like Ultras and X-Factor are buttfuck retarded and trigger in the middle of a match.

If I recall correctly, there was a picture of Q posted on Street Fighter's Facebook page a while back for some reason. I can't seem to find it, however, but I know it was posted around the time the first SFV trailer was released.

I wonder if they can even put Twelve in SFV, considering how he morphs his body in a way that isn't straight stretching like Dhalsim. He'll most likely have more bones in his 3D model's skeleton than others if he was to make it in.

Characters I don't think will be in the initial release of SFV are Abel (Was the 'main character' of IV like Alex was to III, but not as memorable or well received), Dan (Takes up a character slot as a joke character, when there's apparently only ten slots remaining that could be used up by actually eligible fighters), El Fuerte (Not many people want him back), Rufus (The majority doesn't want him back either, as well as Birdie taking his place as the fat guy) and Remy (There's already a soldier character in the game, but Guile at least has some connection to Charlie to make it in). Besides Ken and Akuma for tradition's sake, I feel that other shotos won't make it in either, as the mere sixteen slots would be suitable for including characters with vastly differing fighting styles.

Don't worry about it. If Xrd can simulate 2D that well, they can easily do Twelve too.

It turns out the rumoured character list in >>6555 proved to be false; there are only going to be sixteen characters in the game, as opposed to eighteen, and Necalli wasn't mentioned anywhere in the list. There are five remaining returning characters who we don't know are.

However, I have a feeling any of these characters has a very good chance of getting in:

The Illuminati is featured in UDON's latest comic book, The Life and Death(s) of Charlie Nash, with Urien and Gill making prominent appearances.

Alex's story in Street Fighter III revolves around him seeking revenge on Gill, and the Illuminati already ties in with what we know of Street Fighter V's plot. M. Bison's existence in SFV indicates that Chun-Li hasn't taken Shadaloo down prior to the end of the tournament. One could argue that because Urien knows that Chun-Li took Shadaloo down, not only is Urien pretty much confirmed, but this game marks the last canonical appearance of Shadaloo, meaning that it takes place before SFIII.

My personal assumption :

4-5 girls at max : Capcom never went full retard like SNK. One of the four new characters will be a girl ; it was always like that in almost every SF iteration.

1 - Guile : story with Nash, Nash complete overhaul make perfect sense for Guile to remain unchanged and a charge character

8 & 9 : returning from SF3 (we already have two from the Alpha serie)

Urien : gem on forehead, Udon comic, Gill is broken and banned from every tournament while Urien was a fan favorite.

Juri is highly likely too : high in the poll while being a very recent addition. Only bad girl stereotype of the SF universe. Feng Shui engine make a perfect V-trigger. New super (one hit confirm to animation like everybody else right now in SFV) and lack of armor break move will improve her a lot.

For the rest I'm not sure : I wouldn't mind Poison and/or Claw but Sakura and Akuma are extremely likely.

I would love to see her hunt for Bison continue, since they left that pretty open in SFIV (at least in Bison's ending) but I can see him making her into one of the Dolls because of his comment when she loses to him in Story. I just hope it's not the case, robbing her of that personality would basically make her Decapre with a pinwheel kick. Please don't do that Capcom.

Is somebody else here as disappointed as I am?

I like the graphics, the music, the presentation the existing characters and the characters to come but the gameplay feels a bit too basic for me. I'm into fighting games for only 3 years now so I'm not a hardcore gosu who should judge but I really miss the freedom I have with other games. SF4 was hell in a lot of aspects, but executing combos was incredibly fun. Of course it had max dmg and BnB combos but you could also make up and use your own combos to a certain extent if you felt more comfortable with them and they did similar dmg. There was always something to practice because it was hard doing stuff you had to do to play your character, especially if you had learn plinking and piano inputs.

All combos in SF5 are basically laid out for you and after max. 1 hour you are a master of your character (execution wise). There is no satisfaction in doing a combo, there is no special technique you have to learn and all characters feel pretty similar in general (mp, mp, special, wew).

Besides that: Online sucks. I don't want to wait 5 minutes for a match and I don't want to spend 5 minutes for loading and point distribution. It sucks.

SFV gameplay requires more on the fly thinking and less memorizing specific techniques, basically. There's also fewer game mechanics you have to spend a lot of time learning how to use. So less "I have to learn the combos" and more "I have to learn to read the opponent."

That may be right, but exec. is still a core aspect of the genre, that has been basically reduced to nothing in this game. If you weren't good at "reads", you could still win against somebody by converting every little hit into max. damage..

To me it feels as if you took Macro out of Starcraft.

It was a decision by Capcom to make it less execution-heavy. The lesser focus on combos is to get people to play vs others ala e-sports. That's the path Ono wants to take it. Time to embrace it or move on.

Personally, I'm disappointed because it feels unfinished. I expected a three course dinner but all I got was a steak sandwich.
