I watched Barry Lyndon on fooking VHS. It was one of those rare titles split onto two tapes. Really should revisit that one on bluray.
My meandering trip through Kubrick's filmography came to an unsatisfying end this year with Spartacus. Peter Ustinov was practically the only interesting aspect, although I guess Kirk Douglas' goofball mannerisms are entertaining on some level.

This was a really hard decision.
I rewatched A Clockwork Orange and picked up a whole lot more than I did the first time, like the political themes that emerge towards the end, it's a really well constructed film and what hit me moreso than the first time is the camerawork is spectacular. There are some beautiful shots like the fight along the waterside.
I had to pick Full Metal Jacket though, it feels like such an un-Kubrickian film, since R. Lee Eremy's dialog is so fresh and emotive and the second act is really moving.
Honestly it's had to pick out of any of his films from 2001 onwards, they all have their strengths and are all rewarding watches.

2001 and The Shining are on the same level of god tier for me. They're like two sides of the coins for me while being an equal level of importance.
Then I'd choose Paths of Glory, Barry Lyndon, FMJ, Eyes Wide Shut, Clockwork Orange.
