I have no interest for comedy at all, unfortunately. I watch films for the art, and I've never seen a comedy film that was remotely artful.

Have you seen Play Time?

In general I think there is an art to humor, both in writing and delivery. It's surprisingly difficult to come up with funny concept – and then craft it into a concise joke or one-liner.

I had a surprisingly good time watching WC Fields – both the short film collection and The Bank Dick.
Does anyone have an idea of the best thing to watch next from him?

So this is the comedy thread? Here's a pretty zany one for you, a mix of energetic screwball patter with absurdist visual gags. Reminded me at times of the Zucker brothers. It spoils Citizen Kane before the nine minute mark and divides the comedy with musical numbers, including some cool swing jazz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NBrp9sprdM

Thanks! I still haven't seen any of his silents and wouldn't have thought to try that one.
For Louise Brooks I've only seen Diary of a Lost Girl.

…maybe we need a thread for nitrate goddesses…

Playtime is fantastic. Definitely up there for me.

Other faves are all of Chaplin's tramp feature films. Can't go wrong with Keaton. Lloyd has his moments but I don't think he's at Chaplin and Keaton's level.
