There isn't really any good films that give this subject matter it's due credit. 99% of stuff that's made is either a comedy (like the seth rogen "dude weed lol" alien movie) or a shitty horror film (4th contact).

Personally I don't mind American atomic age sci-fi. Forbidden Planet, etc.

And I guess Solaris counts too.

andromeda strain was a medical thriller. aliens were hardly relevant.

contact was alright but the book was more interesting.
