I'm a college student and I'm trying to lose a bunch of weight. My question is, does alcohol consumption prevent weight loss? I know beer is a ton of empty calories, so I avoid that shit like the plague, but what about vodka or other lower-calorie drinks? It's recently occurred to me that I may have to forego alcohol in order to reach my goals, what do you all think?

 No.83826

Alcohol prevents weight loss. It slows down your metabolism even if technically pure alcohol has no additional calories. You can have some once a month to lose weight. And then when you are closer to your goals, you can drink more often. I'm not really a drinker anymore. The benefit is actually becoming a light weight. You only have to drink a little bit to have fun and it won't affect your fitness goals that much.

Yes you fucking rube of course ingesting literal poison on a regular basis will hinder you attempts to get healthier

Don't drink more than once in a while, and don't get trashed when you do

 No.83840

Depends what your goals are. If you're not competing once in a while won't hurt but if you're doing any form of competition you're going to have to tone it down.

Also yes, drinking vodka/whiskey is much better for you than beer.

Vodka and Liqueur in light quantities are fine. just don't trash yourself, it messes too much with your body and routine.

You're all a bunch of faggots. I mean, alcohol being "literally poison"? Come on. Water is fucking poisonous if you drink too much of it.

Alcohol fucks with gains if you a) get hangovers all the time and stay up late at night and b) destroy your liver. Don't do either of these two, you're fine.

Alcohol is fine in any amount, just drink a shitton of water and don't act like a retard afterwards.

Keep your fucking head down and don't ever exaggerate how drunk you are/were.

As for weight loss, drink liquors and clear stuff, no beer, cocktails or stupid shit.

Drinking too often is a problem too, of course and can lead to deterioration of discipline, gyno or so i've heard and general bad consequences.

alcohol damages the whole body but mainly the liver

the liver is responsible for the synthesis of natural steroid hormones

if the liver is busy filtering alcohol out of the organism it can't produce steroid hormones -> less testosterone

in addition the cells that are destroyed through alcohol need to get replaced aswell -> higher regenerative burden

will drink today aswell as I get dragged to a schools-out party by comrades, but alcohol is very very hurtfull to gains nevertheless

also latvia is right, if you drink alcohol don't mix it with sugar, as the body will rather react to the sugar instead of dealing with the alcohol, thusly letting it pass right through the "Blut-Hirn-Schranke" (dunno what's it called in english)

Avoiding beer because it 'has more calories' is retarded, there are a lot more calories in the alcohol itself than in the carbs in beer.

Alcohol in moderation is good for you. And beer and wine are better for you than vodka, they actually have vitamins and antioxidants in them. Generally the more colour it has the better it is for you, just like any food.

 No.84919

If you choose to not exercise the next day because of hangover or you eat a lot while drunk, then yes it'll impede you. Otherwise, assuming you're a regular guy, it'll be fine. If you're competing consider suicide

 No.84984

>>84914

Alcohol is not good for you merely because it has antioxidants in it. You can get antioxidants from non-alcohol sources and spare yourself the negative effects of alcohol.

 No.84992

>>84984

There are more than one type of antioxidant, you don't just eat a whole bunch of oranges and then say 'welp, I'm done for antioxidants for the week'. For example, red wine is the best source of the antioxidant resveratrol. And it's not just the antioxidants and vitamins, alcohol itself has been shown to be beneficial to health when consumed in moderation, such as reducing the risk of diabetes, heart disease and stroke.

Alcohol gets a bad rap because it's mostly used to get people drunk, but if you have one or two drinks with a meal it's good for you.

 No.84993

"More than 100 prospective studies show an inverse association between moderate drinking and risk of heart attack, ischemic (clot-caused) stroke, peripheral vascular disease, sudden cardiac death, and death from all cardiovascular causes. (4) The effect is fairly consistent, corresponding to a 25 percent to 40 percent reduction in risk."
