I don't know if this is your issue, but my problem was boredom. I would eat when I was bored but if I was occupied (mostly playing vidya) I would even skip meals. One way is to just get rid of your snacks, or at least replace them with something healthy. I really like hummus, probably easy to find over there in Syria.

If you want to lose weight, you have two legal options.
1. Eat less.
2. Move more.
Eating less is probably something you should be looking into regardless. Do you eat a lot of sweets, or drink a lot of soda? Cut down on that shit, man. Preferably all the way out. Switching your soda for sugar free can help with losing weight. Other than that, eat foods that, eat meat. Meat isn't very calorically dense and makes you very sated.
As for moving more, if you're a fat guy, jogging probably isn't the best idea for now. You could try cycling, I guess. Or just lift some heavy ass weights. Feels good, man.

If you've got a local bike shop go in there, tell them your hard limit of 300 clams for the bike and be straight with them. Say "Look, I want a bike so I can stop being this fat, can you set me up with something that will hold up to my weight?"
If you want to hunt your own down I seem to remember bending the frame of an aluminum mountain bike when I was 315+ pounds so go for something with a sturdier steel frame. Most bikes are made for people at or below 230 pounds or so, you're going to go through tires like nobody's business. If you get a bike, don't stand on a pedal to get going or like me you'll break a few chains. Get a chain link replacer and some spare links for just that situation.
A bike is difficult to find for a fat guy but once you find a sturdy frame you like and a brand of wheel you like you'll be set for a good long while. The more weight you lose the better your bike will work for you so don't worry about buying cheap and trading up like I did, you're more likely just damaging the bike out of weight. If you're worried about not being able to afford breaking chains and bending tires and shit just walk, cut out sugars and eat a caloric deficit until you hit that 220 - 240 range to use a bike without crushing it.
Bikes are a great time though, much better once you're not fat anymore. Would recommend.

#1 problem with fat people is higher than average ingestion of simple carbohydrates, ie sugars (especially fructose). Even 1% higher than average ingestion will turn into a problem ten years down the line.
So stop eating sugar, don't eat starches (potatoes, rice, bread), don't eat fruit or modern processed junk (its chock full of fructose)…. you can eat any kind of fibre, all kinds of protein/meat, fermented dairy (cheese etc), or any kind of unsaturated fat all you like.
#2 problem with fat people is that their muscles are eroded by years of inactivity, they're basically at COMA PATIENTS level of musculature. Get some kind of muscle mass, you need muscle if you're going to burn fat. Literally look up what coma patients do to gain musculature, biking, swiming etc. Swimming is best for a manatee of your proportions. You can even do it in ice cold Sweden waters, because you have a protective layer of blubber.

That's so vague, you could use that excuse for any weight loss technique. Sure, hey may not go in and start squatting three plates the first day, he may not even be able to squat the bar. I could barely squat the bar when I started. It doesn't matter as long as he progresses.
Mark Rippetoe has a 92 year old woman that trains at his gym. When she came in she needed a walker. They started with shallow little squats and worked on progression. She doesn't need a walker anymore.
The basic lifts are basic human movements. They aren't difficult to understand. Everyone squats. Babies do it instinctively. Everyone lifts things off the floor. Everyone lifts things overhead. You can watch instructional youtube videos, be mindful of your movements, and have great form on these lifts.
Am I saying swimming is bad? No, but its basically just cardio. If he wants cardio he should just walk. Low intensity steady state cardio is still pretty much the best cardio for fat burning. Some have tried to make an argument for HIIT, but most of the science says that there isn't nearly as much of an advantage as most people think.
I still think strength training should be the base of his exercise program. If you look at people that have lost large amounts of weight through diet and exercise, they almost always used strength training as the base of their program. The ones that don't initially switch to it because its so much more effective.
I will close with words displayed in many gyms around the world (including mine)
1) Half squats produce half results.
2) Not Squatting is bad for the knees.
3) Heels down, chest up, knees out, butt back.
4) Breathe into your belly, not your chest.
5) Never use the tampon bar. Ever.
6) Smith machine squats aren’t squats.
7) If the Russians are doing it, you should too.
8) You ain’t squat if you can’t squat.
9) Women are encouraged to out-squat their partners.
10) A squat is the foundation of all fitness programs.

Here don't knock swimming. I do a lot of that (I do it before lifting). It's easier for fat people to do because they float, and I suppose if you feel awkward at least you're barely visible when in the water.
I think a fat bloke more likely to stick at swimming because you don't have to run around feeling everyone's eyes on you all the time. Some intensity is needed to offset that fact that your fat makes you buoyant - and the colder the water is, the better.
Good luck OP and don't give up. Fitness is a lifestyle and you'll soon find it second nature.

Drop the notion that you'll be "done" within half a year. That you'll ever be done getting fit. Sure, you're probably a young, or at least young-ish, man - you could absolutely drop the weight by not eating garbage and going for regular walks instead of sitting on your ass all night long.
But if you go right back into eating garbage without restraint and sitting on your ass playing vidya/shitposting/watching netflix all night long, every night, you'll just get fat all over again.
Unplug for a month, man. Just check your "business"/"official" e-mail once a day, if that, and don't use a computer unless you absolutely must. Don't sit around unless you must. To change your habits, start by breaking the bad ones, and promptly establish new, good ones.
You are a product of your decisions. African orphans can rise from their shitpile to become Doctors, you're too much of a bitch to eat right and move once in a while?
If you want to change your physique, change the circumstances that led to it going to shit in the first place - your diet, your activity, and your mindset. You want to change your life, and have it stick? Change your lifestyle, man. Read the sticky, print off a copy if you have a shitty memory, and get out of here. Get off the internet for a solid month, and when you come back, limit the time you spend here, shitposting and fapping all night. Go to your library and read some books. Put those tax dollars to good use. Once you're able to do heavier/more intense exercise without destroying your joints, and you're settled into a proper diet, keeping physically active on a regular basis, then you can spend some time chilling out.
You're way more powerful than you think you are, you just don't know it yet.
Now, get out there and start with a walk. Nobody's looking at you, and if they are, use that as motivation. They're mocking you? Fine. In a year's time, if you stick to it and don't collapse into your old ways, those gazes will be looks of awe and open lust.

I've been wanting to get into lifting and get fit as I'm a bit chubby and want to feel strong like I did in middle school, I've been told lifting helps arthritis and normal benching is fine(I bench about my weight right now starting) but push-ups and pullups absolutely kill my elbows for some reason. Running was the same but my knees have gotten to the point where they are basically dead(if you do that hammer test I don't even feel it outside of the contact to the skin) but I've developed this lump in my right arm near the elbow that's been steadily growing the more active I get. My mom(a nurse) says it's just a fatty tumor but I can feel a burning sensation in it when pressure is on my elbows from push-ups, pull ups, shadow boxing and such.

eat at a calorie deficit and you lose weight
work out in the meantime and eat a lot of protein to not lose all of your muscle.
how is this so hard to understand?

Losing weight isn't rocket science, eat less and lift while you're at it.

>170kg (375 lbs) and 55% body fat here.
>Your Base Metabolic Rate (BMR) is in the area of 2041 (Harris-Benedict formula) and 2219 (Schofield formula) calories per day.
That means if you eat 2,041-2,219 calories daily you won't gain weight.
If you were to reduce that by 500 calories a day, you'd be losing 1lb/week; 1,500-1,700 calories isn't that difficult to get. The important thing is you need to eat a lot of protein because your body needs amino acids to function and if you don't get them (which it gets from protein), it will start burning muscle instead of fat.
Try to get 40% of your calories from protein, 3-40% of your calories from carbs, and 10-20% from fats.

Please allow me to interject. There's no need to hide your fat. It's shameful but wearing an extra layer is only going to make you look like you're self conscious. Just wear loose black shirts and accept that ppl are going to look at your fat.
I have fat dudes at my gym walk around in stringers like they're 220 lbs of pure muscle. Then I got this less fat dude skittering around like a mouse because he's embarrassed of himself. Why? You're fat all the same. I'd rather see you comfortable. If anything, it's ppl at the gym who are going to give you support and sympathy because a lot of them have been where you were. And if there are any guys who laugh at you, they are usually dyel faggots who only perform arm curls and can't squat depth.
So I'm saying, wear what you want, but don't do something because it might save you from embarrassment. It's not like ppl can't see your fat underneath your clothes either way. I feel like it's reasons like this that I don't see enough people at the gym.

>1500-1700
What in the fucking world are you even saying?
I'm 175lbs and even I eat 1700 on a lower calorie day for cutting. My bmr is 1500 and I never eat under that much in a day. I guess I also have never gone a full week without working out in three years. I've lost 50lbs since then.
I think you have it wrong. It's not 500 calories under bmr, it's 500 calories below maintenance.
http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/
This says his bmr is around 300 calories. Even if he sat on his ass every day, his maintenance is 3700 calories. At this point he shouldn't eat anything over 3200 calories in a day.
Netherlands, the sticky has information for everyone. Eat under 3200 calories on average and really count your calories. Go for foods that are lower in calories for the amount you can eat like turkey or chicken and oats. You're probably fat partially because you are lazy and you guilt others into doing all the work for you. Come on, man. I can't spoonfeed you all day.

It is. It's also written for people who are 170kg and want to be 80. The minute details might be different, but the basic mechanics remain. Eat less, move more. That's what losing weight comes down to.
