Due to falling oil prices One Gallon of Milk is Now Worth Nearly Two Gallons of Oil

With crude oil at a 12-year low that means it is now even cheaper than milk.

The one gallon price of West Texas Intermediate crude is nearly equal to just half a gallon of Class III milk. That makes this the lowest ratio since 2004.

Calories in a gallon of milk: 2400 Calories

Calories in gallon of crude oil: (6.1e9 / 42) J = 34,700 Calories

March is around the corner and some of you at below 300lbs still

I don't quite think humans have enzymes that can digest the compounds in crude oil

>dropping oil prices

This is not a good thing is it?

I'm pretty sure Americans can, why else would they be so obsessed with the oil prices?

 No.84959

I cannot into economics, but isn't there a problem on a larger scale if prices were to drop without prompting? I mean, it's not like the supply of oil had suddenly risen. Wasn't the most recent drop an artificial one due to some sort of impedance of another market? I may be talking out my ass here.

Consuming without thinking of the consequences is what fucks us over in the long run. The earth didn't suddenly get more oil.

Hate me for it, but I think there should be a hard cap on how lower oil prices can go until other energy sources come along far enough

>tfw I drive a car that used to get 20mpg average and I just adjusted it to run richer for more power so now it gets 16

This is me giving a fuck. When we run out they'll probably find a way to synthesize a replacement. Shit gets done when your back's against the wall.

We've had ways to synthesize replacements for ages. Shit, the Nazi's did it during WWII. Its basic inorganic chemistry. The thing is its still cheaper to drill for oil than to refine coal or biomass into petroleum substitutes.

Is there really anything that could even replace "fossil fuels" at the present time? You always hear people bitch about solar being the future. I've seen a documentary on how global influences prevent Africa from using their coal reserves in the name of conservation. They showed how a small hospital was given a solar panel, but it could only either power the lights or the fridge where they keep blood samples and other volatile items. I remember a /pol/ thread where it was said the United States could be energy independent if the hydro electrical infrastructure were to be fixed.

Solar power has a bright future ahead of it, I believe, but first we must actually make it feasible before we put it on fucking everything. Walking around with solar panels on your shoes is not going to save the fucking planet.

Solar power will only be implemented widley once Europe and America have upped thier rare earth element production, at the moment china is the main supplier, so currently relying on solar power in a large scale means having an energy infrastructure that is dependent on china
