I've been at 150lbs for two months despite eating well over 150gs of protein and still gaining muscle.

Friend says its my bodyfat being burned for muscle, but I didn't even think I had much bodyfat to begin with.

Bullshit, do calorie counting and account for your level of physical activity. Have your net calories be higher than your maintenance calories and you will gain weight.

Depends on what you're trying to do. If you're trying to bulk (AKA gain weight and turn the new weight mostly into muscle) then yes you need to eat enough daily protein while eating over your maintenance calories and working out.

If you were told to take in protein I imagine you were trying to put on muscle mass. But yeah, if you want to gain weight you have to eat more calories than you burn. As a contrast, I'm actively losing weight. I meet my protein goal everyday and work out to minimize muscle loss, but because I am eating less calories than I burn, I am losing weight.

you eat calories to gain weight and protein to gain muscle.

if your not eating enough calories it doesnt matter how much protein you eat, you wont gain muscle.
