 No.86579

Long story short:

A few months ago my dad suffered a stroke brought on my unmonitored use of prescribed heart meds (doctor's fault).

He lost control of half of his body at first, but after some medicating and physical therapy he has regained most of it.

Although he had the rehab rundown after his hospitalization and has been doing it ever since, he feels as though his balance isn't improving very much and he could be doing more.

You might be thinking that he's just talking out of his league, but here's a bit of backstory on him - he is a former athlete, has a well built body and has participated in several skiing competitions, so he is no weakling.

I tried googling this, but most of the information was either not very detailed or it was simply a suggestion to seek a PT and at the moment he doesn't have the money to afford more sessions with a qualified physical therapist.

tl;dr

What are some good stroke rehabilitation exercises based around balance?

The equipment that is available to him is as follows:

* One of those big medical balls

* That half ball (one side is flat, other is round and spiked) thing

If you have any questions regarding his physical capacity, the exercises he has been doing or any other details, I'm afraid I can't answer them because I do not live with him or even near him and all I know about his current condition is what I wrote in this post.

 No.86580

He should start with the utmost basics and work up. If he can't walk with normal gait yet then that's 100% of what he should be working on. So balancing exercises, starting with just standing then like 1 foot up and touching a wall and then 1 foot without support. If he's fit he mostly just has to rewire himself.

For things that are currently difficult and or dangerous for him, he should mentally rehearse with the same rigor as if he were physically doing the exercise. The neural pathways fire whether you do or imagine something, so this is a pretty common tactic in stroke rehab.

I hope he gets better anon.

You should look up this guy's work

Pr Jean Michel Gracies,

http://www.aphp.fr/offre-de-soin/consultation-13107

He's the best for your problem

He speaks english.

If I remember correctly he had a baltic doctor doing an internship with him not so long ago.

>He should start with the utmost basics and work up

He has been doing the basics for a while now and he does not know what the next step is

>>86581

I was thinking something along the lines of a video guide or some infographics, but I will suggest this to him a last resort, thanks.

I think that you should find out what caused his stroke and improve his health from a nutrition standpoint.

I have no idea about exercices though

Rehabilitation after a stroke is a complex process.

It's true that the work capacities of the patient are often underestimated.

There is a myth that the rehab results will not improve 6 months after the stroke.

It is a myth. Pr Gracies have patients who have improved several years after.

You should contact him, he have very detailed exercices for each case.

From what I got (I'm not a medic), stretches play a major part to cure the effects of paresis or hemiparesis.

If that's a money problem, look up if you can get an UE medical insurance card. It's often automatically given with your national medical insurance card.

I should add that he has gotten his movement and basics down, like, he can walk, talk, manipulate objects pretty easily. Just that he's having trouble with balance, e.g., riding on a bicycle.

>doctor prescribes him a certain type of medication

>medication comes in 2 varieties

>the expensive kind

>the experimental, yet cheap kind

>not enough money for the better one, so have to use alternative

>patients using these meds should get checked regulary to see any irregularities in their body

>just to be sure it's fine, ask doc

>"Nah, man, s'cool."

>Well, okay

>one day he cant feels his face, falls down and is unable to move

We have two latvias? wtf they cloned egypt now it's happening with you too?

Also, sorry OP, my condolences, I suggest some physiotherapy in the overall and search for exercises to help with equilibrium, I think something like pistol squats can help with balance in the overall, if he's having problems with balance I think he needs to practice more, like a child would do if he's learning how to ride a bike.

1-One faggot had something with his tongue and asked you about it

>Look, I have some weird medical condition that has no relation to fitness or lifting whatsoever, but instead of going to a doctor, let me ask some random, anonymous chinese cartoon fans on the internet!

2-Second faggot was some 22 year old who had a very high bf% while being 65 Kilograms and using the word Kilo instead of Kilogram or Kgs which pissed me off the dude didn't even know the name of cottage cheese, mentioned a name no one understood probably

3-Last faggot popped in the QTDDOT Thread and asked "What are pushups?"

Wonder whether that faggot does even lift?
