I'll start: Sumo deadlifting like in pic related is fucking retarded.

>Arm position

Arms go straight down. Having them at an angle increases the ROM. The only excuse to ever not have the arms reach straight down is when you're deadlifting regular with a wide stance and your legs are standing in the way of your arms.

>Toe position

The toes on the sumo deadlift point outwards. That's easy to overlook, but I know from experience that it's pretty damn important. This decreases the angle of the lower back and it makes activation of the quads easier. Considering that sumo is all about maximum quad-activation and decreasing the back angle as far as possible, not pointing your toes outwards is absolutely fucking retarded.

Funny thing is, the guide I got this picture from mentioned toe positioning, but the model did it wrong, anyway.

P-please subscribe to my blog.

Germany, I have a doubt, I'm sincerely having difficult with squats lately, do you think I could substitute squats with sumo deads or doing more regular deads instead? also, general deadlift appreciation thread.

"There's no reason to be alive if you can't do deadlift" - Jon Pall Sigmarsson I love that quote, and the guy was a beast, he literally died doing deadlifts

I don't know why one wouldn't just do it how OLs do it. That position looks like the same position you start for taking the bar off the ground.

Nigger, don't replace your squat with sumos. It's an entirely different movement. They work roughly the same muscles, but how they are recruited is completely different.

As for Sigmarsson, may he deadlift Sæhrímnir until the end of days.

I'm not very familiar with olympic lifts, but it looks like the wide grip decreases the moment arm in sequence four. It also makes holding a heavy barbell over your head easier, especially when you're trying to control its momentum. I'm also thinking it might have something to do with activation of the lats and lateral delts, as opposed to frontal delts.

Fellow bong i know you are missing a 0 at the end there.

Honest to god i saw a 50+ year old woman deadlifting 40kg yesterday. You cannot be an adult male with a functioning body and lift so little.

Eh, maybe it lies by the idea of torque. The longer distance allows for more torque and thus, a higher angular velocity and momentum, versus a smaller distance and less torque generated. It is like pushing at the door from the hinges vs. the edge. I do not know.

 No.87799

Seriously whenever I've done deadlifts for the past year I have to stop because I get this dull ache in my back. What the fuck do I do, If I try to lift past it and ignore it it turns into an incredibly pain that tightens up periodically and hurts so back my breath catches. I have no idea what it is, it goes away completely if I stop lifting for a few days.

That's a noice thread. Deadlifts are my favorite lift, nothing will get you a strong back faster than a deadlift. But I want to know: what do you guys think about snatch grip deadlift, if the deadlift had a bigger range of motion like the high bar squat and the clean, imagine the possible power gains you'd make.

I just recently taught a guy at my gym how to deadlift. He showed up weighing <100 lbs and struggled to pull 65lbs. Years of inactivity and poor diet can do that.

you were gripping with the wrong part of your hand before, and the chalk only allowed your grip to slip into the correct position, where before, friction was preventing it.

Put your fingertips on the bar first, and roll the bar forward, closing your grip as you go. You should notice it feels different from the way you were doing it before chalk, and probably similar to the way you were doing it with chalk.

I usually put my middle finger in the smooth part

Is it an important difference?

 No.88109

I like to hold it with my arms parallel to each other, so shoulder width

>>88099

not really, as long as you're comfortable, some people are taller or shorter and therefore have different arm lengths than others so not everyone can hold the bar in the same place.

Why would a snatch grip be dangerous? It's a standard exercise in olympic training programs to improve the first pull on the snatch.

The full snatch itself is much more dangerous since the bar ends up above your head.
