When I bench, I sometimes get shooting pains, which straddle a line between dull, sharp, and hot, in my shoulders and arms, particularly my left ones. Sometimes I even feel it in my neck.

It completely goes away in a day or two, but it can really impede lifting. What gives?

>OP has multiple left shoulders and arms

Go to bed, Goro.

I knew I should have rewritten that.

Guess you must be hitting a nerve or something, perhaps your form is awful, perhaps you're ina bad position most of the time and can't get into a good one to bench so it fucks up your form.

I have had nerve problems in the past. However, I also happened to look into my bench form yesterday, and, if this video is accurate, it looks like I'm fucking my shoulders. Hoping this resolves it.

Are you tucking your elbows in, like you should be?

Then do a proper fucking bench press and see how it goes. If you still get pain, ask a doctor.

I tried to follow the form in those videos tonight and wound up hurting a lot worse. In particular, the points at which my biceps and triceps connect to my humeri, both on the front and back, near the elbow, felt as though they had been severely strained, or otherwise injured. Though they calmed down after a few hours and some ibuprofen, they're still very sore. Definitely not nerve pain, this time, at least.

Much worse was a spot within my left shoulder. I'm unable to tell if it's the deltoid itself or a muscle beneath it, but it was sore and painful to the touch, much like a bruise is. Like my forearms, it's improved, but it's still sore, and poking at it is still uncomfortable. I'll see how I feel on Monday and, providing it feels safe, try again.

I'd take a week off if i were you, from benching at least, then start really light and with good form, also go to the doctor. missing a week might seem bad but missing a month because of an injury would be way worse.

Yeah, you were right. I felt great today, so I figured I'd at least see how some low-weight reps (80 lbs.) felt, but I could pretty immediately tell that something wasn't fully healed yet.

Taking the week off. Contemplating doctor.
