Planet fitness is the only gym near me that I can afford.

Everything I have read in the /fit/ sticky or on this board involves three exercises that seem impossible at PF: Squats,Deatlifts, and Benching.

Greyskull, 5x5, SS all have these as core parts of the routine.

PF has no squat racks or benches, all they have are smith machines, which keep the bar stable and locked into the machine.

Is it even worth doing these exercises on a smith? I feel like you lose out on a lot of muscle work just because you aren't in complete control of where the bar goes. I'll bet if I ever tried to do an actual bench, I would drop it on myself because of this.

Does anyone have a good routine that they can use for PF?

 No.87562

Do you have enough money to buy your own equipment? If so do that because there are pretty much no decent excerizes at planet fitness

 No.87564

Please, please, FUCKING PLEASE. Do not go to planet fitness. I wasted too much money there, just get a fucking home gym. I've accomplished more in a home gym in the past month than I did for a year at Planet fitness.

HOME GYM MASTER RACE

Look at hitler, guess what? he had a home gym!

 No.87570

The dumbbells only go up to baby weights and smith machine isn't good unless you're doing it as extra (for example incline bench if you're desperate). The best you can hope for is to build a routine on isolation machines only, which is shit but it's better than nothing.

If you're really desperate then get the membership as it's better than nothing but look for a job as quickly as you can so you can move on to a real gym.

 No.87585

As others have said, you'd be better off just buying some cheap used equipment off of Craigslist or somewhere.

 No.87594

buy a cheap set of dumbbells on amazon or craigslist and perhaps either build or buy a bench. (if you buy one, make sure it has an adjustable back, some exercises can be varied that way)

the dumbbells go to a price for perhaps 2 months of doing fuck all at planet fatness and that way you can work out without having annoying hamplanets sitting on the only free bench to eat pizza.

after that you can start saving money on a homegym with everything you need.

when buying dumbbells and barbells, make sure you buy the ones with steel grip, there are some with rubber grips but they are usually shit.

I have been working out for a year and 3 months now. I got to a gym, but school takes up time, so I have no choice. I just go there now, and the weight is nothing. I maxed out on every fucking machine.

 No.87610

Get a home gym. Membership runs out. Spend that money on weights and they will be good pretty much for life. Don't even set foot in a planet fitness. Unless you're a DYEL you will immediately trigger the lunk alarm and get forcibly ejected.

 No.87613

get a home gym nigga, I'm lifting right now and shitposting on here in between sets. you'll save money in the long run as well.

 No.87620

NEVER USE SMITH MACHINES

NEVER

EVER

You'll injure yourself too damn easy because the machine forces the bar path in such a way as to be completely unnatural to most (if not all) people. Like you said, you don't work the stabilizing muscles so when you see anyone squatting 3pl8 on a smith machine like the faggot they are, tell them to go do it on freeweights and watch their dumb ass struggle and fall over because they literally can't.

 No.87621

>>87569

this. you can do 99% of workout at a home gym, set it up as you like, have no fees, don't have to worry about waiting to use equipment. it doesn't even cost that much unless you're a total povo cunt

buy some bumper plates and make a your garage the only crossfit gym that teaches proper form :^)

OP here.

Is there really nothing decent I can do at a PF? It seems like there are lots of people here with more gainz than me.

and yes I'm still DYEL, the only decent thing I can do is 5x7 chinups.

so much this holy shit

i used a smith machine for squats for a week after i injured my leg.

when i got better my form was fucked. don't ever touch them for anything

as >>87603 explains the biggest issue is that you will max everything out quickly.

 No.87952

>>87918

Decent? Sure. Probably. I'm sure they have a couple of dumbbells around or something, and you can probably find some machines that aren't completely retarded. Maybe. If you're lucky.

However, if you don't squat, deadlift and bench, your gains will be subpar and you will probably look weak. That's just how it works. They're the best exercises.

 No.88154

If you've got enough money for PF, you've got more than enough to buy your own equipment for lifting and using a public park for your plyometric and running exercises.

 No.88155

>>88154

Planet Fitness is $20 a month. That can't even buy you a dumbbell.

 No.88180

>>88155

$20 dollars can buy you a bag of sand, and a sack, which is objectively more useful than an entire planet fitness facility. Think outside the box.

 No.88183

>>88155

that's 40 bucks for 2 months which buy you a dumbbell set which only costs you once. then you can collect money for more equipment.

 No.88186

>>88155

You're wrong and allow me to specifically elaborate on what, why, and how you're wrong.

Basic membership: $10 x 12 months = $120 + $30 Annual membership fee = $150 total for yearly membership

"Black Card" membership: $20 x 12 months = $240 + $30 Annual membership fee = $270 total for yearly membership

From the math provided above, you're in truth paying anywhere from $150 to $270 yearly for a membership at PF, which isn't too far off what the growing number of budget franchise gyms popping up charge. Mind you, that's if you maintain the determination to follow through and use their facility on a regular basis. Now, while that's not a kingly sum, it's not chump change either. More problematic is that today when you patronize a business your money may also be used to support beliefs of corporate management that are not in sync with your own. Especially when you notice the ever growing number of businesses that appear to be promoting not just homosexuality, but pedophilia as well.

Ten years ago I was able to get my first adjustable weight set for $120 on sale from Modell's sporting goods. Follow the link provided to Walmart and you will see a variety of weight sets ranging in price from as low as $20 and up, which will vary depending on weight and material of construction. ( http://www.walmart.com/search/?query=weight%20set ) Having a weight set at home not only saves money it eliminates hours of travel time spent during the year I'm able to re-purpose to invest both into my workouts and my life.

The sad truth of the matter is buying your own equipment is profoundly less expensive than a gym membership and will be more beneficial to you and your goals. Once you have the tools, the only things you will really need is solid reference, good nutrition, and dietary information to get the most out of your workouts. Good luck.

It's ten a month where I am.

 No.88192

>>87560

Can confirm what >>88186 said. Since I take public trans, the closest gym accessible was nearly half an hour away plus waiting time for the bus. Instead I started with a 110 lbs home set and basic bench and now have about 500 lbs of plates with additional kettlebells, elastic bands, lifting bars and chin up bars.

The gym helps me get social gains though, it's one of the very few moments when i'm surrounded by strangers, i was anxious as fuck at first but now i feel pretty comfortable in there, i'd still be an anxiety mess if i stayed at home.

 No.88284

Dumbbell squats, dumbbell bench.

 No.88291

>>88188

Okay? A bag and half a bag of sand. Then next month, you'll get another bag of sand. All I'm hearing is excuses, do you WANT to go to planet fatness OP? Don't let us stop you from being happy, but don't lie to us and tell us gains will make you happy, then get pissy when we tell you planet fitness won't get you gains. This is bitch tier psychology.

That reads as interesting, but everyone I know, myself included have found d actual socializing to be more effective. Have you considered joining a debate club? Take dance lessons? Learn a foreign language? Go to social events your church sponsors? Even taking a class in comedy improvisation would be helpful for your anxiety.

>debate club

When i enter uni perhaps, i do love debating.

>Take dance lessons

No interest at all, yoga perhaps, since stretching is good

>Learn a foreign language

Bien sure, j'ai pris des cours de francais, et je veux apprendre beaucoup d'autres langues

>Go to social events your church sponsors?

I'm too fedora

>a class in comedy improvisation

Never seen those

I do want to learn to play piano and violin, but for now the gym is all i have, if it weren't for it i'd stay home all day.
