Welcome to /folk/! Here's the few rules in place at the moment.

1. Posts should be about folk music, its derivatives, the artists, songs, or whatever strange turn the threads may take. Intentionally derailing a thread isn't allowed.

2. Spoiler NSFW files.

Guidelines:

1. YouTube embeds are allowed, but WebMs are encouraged. If we ever get sound file (FLAC, MP3, etc) embeds, those would be even better.

2. While bumping a thread is allowed, it'd be better if you actually contributed something to the thread.

bump for interest, looking for something with heavier vocals though

 No.115

YouTube embeds are cool, don't worry about it. I just prefer webms because there's less of a possibility of the video getting taken down (as unlikely as that is with folk music), it's easier to share, and it works on Exodus.

Overchan works pretty well, last I used exodus it was going to shit with little to no updates

I just like listening to these as a thunderstorm is coming. I can see a sailing vessel in my mind being thrown around in the middle of the ocean by the forces of nature. Sailors tying themselves to the ship and cold waves washing through the deck.

So I don't know if you all count this as folk, but it has a similar feeling.

Fictional setting songs?

Stuff like Tolkien and Martin wrote.

Hey /folk/, I have been looking for traditional folk music of New England and the Northeast and general.

Does it even really exist? And also, sea shanties don't count.

I wonder how many pre-existing voicefags we'll, have, but the nice part about folk music is that anyone can sing it.

Any clue when it'll happen this year? Probably around august right?

 No.103

>>99

It's the middle 2 weeks of September, starting on the 8th. You can write and plan, do instrumentals, or even edit together music videos all year long, but the actual singing is done more like an event itself, with everyone cannonball running stuff all at once.

What do you guys think about the folk music in the sixties? I love it myself, this is one of my favorites and Dave Van Ronk is pretty underrated in my opinion.

Joanie is only good when Dylan writes her songs. Here's a song Dylan never bothered recording himself but gave Joan in 1964. It's from "Any Day Now" released in 1968.
