Serious question: Do you guys think 8chan will overtake 4chan's popularity?
I honestly don't know myself.
No.54
No it won't.
I seriously hope it doesn't

No.63
Not for a long time, if ever. We have the "internet extremists, hackers on steroids" media smear that 4chan used to get, but 8chan isn't synonymous with "lulz" or "epic win" with teenagers/children just yet.

-any of the major communities can move here when they feel like it and be better off, the only thing stopping them is inertia
-anyone here can create a new board for their interest if the current board goes to shit, they don't have to fight the mods, plead with the admin or endure anything like on 4chan
-any new or marginalized groups will form here versus on other sites, and they will grow quickly if they're decent just look at /baphomet/
-hotwheels is adding new features at a good rate
-8chan has a solid partnership with 2ch and works well we not being DDoS'd
Really it's just a matter of time.

And that shit will draw people to the site like it did for 4chan all them years ago. Of course, this is assuming moot won't royally fuck over his only cash cow somehow in the next couple years.
No.92
Absolutely, 8chan is the logical successor to 4chan, it's an overall better paradigm and I fully expect 8chan to easily overtake 4chan, I can go as far as to say that I can see 8chan as a top100 website (4chan is a top500 site) amungst the likes of sites like Reddit (hopefully without Reddits shitty userbase)

No.212
I can safely say at this point I have no idea.
8chan is oddly both the "edgy" 4chan, and also both the "politically correct friendly" 4chan as how it's treated on reddit and tumblr.
All I can say safely is both 4chan and 8chan population hopes the other will stay a containment board.
No.213
For now it seems just like some big peripheral imageboard, like 7chan or 420chan.
Don't see it replacing 4chan, unless something really big happens to 4chan or 8chan.

>>87>We dont want popularity you fucking idiot. Popularity ruined 4chanThis isn't halfchan you fucking moron. The ability to create boards has paved a way to overcome the shortcomings of halfchan. Without a complete reversal from Hotwheels' modus operandi, the only thing that can be ruined here is
individual boards.
No.514
I'm just here because someone showed me this board some time ago. I don't like it, it feels too broad with all these boards, and the philosophy that led to a mass migration is not very admirable, despite understanding the reasoning. I'd rather have a 4chan alternative with more focused boards, but with the leniency similar to 2007.
No.524
>>90>>84I think this kinda stuff is key
4chan's admins and mods have been stubborn, slow, schizophrenic and out of touch with the community for years. 8chan provides basically a hosting service, not a set series of boards, and the entire site essentially works organically in the same way that individual boards do.
There's nowhere to go but down for 4chan. the tumblr and twitter crowd will stay on tumblr and twitter, because they don't want anonymity, the mainstream will still consider them a cesspit and probably think they're the same thing as 8chan, and they're repeatedly proving to be completely unable to deal with the needs and responsibilities of establishing, maintaining and growing a community.
No.532
It will take a long time, a really fucking long time, but it will happen.
The good thing about 8chan is that boards are created by people and not an administration, so if something goes wrong here people will just create a new one, they won't go anywhere.
Meanwhile every single mistake in 4chan will make people to come here, it started with GamerGate but then we got pol, and we got some others minor exodus in /a/ for example when mods banned loli and sakura-fish. Little by little people will come here, and because moot is retarded and is not doing anything to fix cuckchan (in fact he's destroying it) is just a matter of time.
I think in a year or two when everything gets banned in 4chan and we get something "legendary" going on here is when it will go down. Just wait until some leaks or shit like that happens here instead of 4chan, people will come to stay.

At this rate, no. Not for a long time. We've pretty much stagnated in terms of concurrent posters for a while, even if we've gotten more unique posters from various exoduses. Just take a look at
http://8ch.net/boards.html during various periods of the day and you'll see that we've been at the same amount of posters during certain periods of the day. Unless we get another exodus from 4chan, we won't grow. 4chan itself is already slowly dying.
I wouldn't want the 4channers that are left there anyway.
No.548
No because the userbase here is all about raiding and fucking with people, you can't have a community about that and this site is horrible at some point it'll be an unending amount of boards with people slighted by some other power tripping faggot, this site is destined to fail in my opinion.
No.549
>>547>Unless we get another exodus from 4chan, we won't grow.>4chan itself is already slowly dying. Why do you think 4chan is dying, Anon? Because the userbase is slowly migrating 'somewhere'? I wonder where.
Anyway, my interpretation is that the userbase has 'settled down', there's no longer that frantic rush of
>gotta post fast or 8chan will die! It's at the point where, barring technical failure, the site now has a stable, consistent userbase, the last spate of DDOS attacks proved that, the posters here are all here for a reason now.

>>548>No because the userbase here is all about raiding and fucking with people, you can't have a community about that and this site is horrible at some point it'll be an unending amount of boards with people slighted by some other power tripping faggotYour description sounds like that of 2007-era /b/, which as we all know resulted in everyone abandoning the site. Oh right except that never happened, the constant mentions in the press were precisely what put it on everyone's radar. Besides that, this is not one big raid board, at most you could say that of /baph/ /cow/ and maybe /gamergate/ at a stretch, but the rest of the boards are topic-centric discussion boards with clearly defined directions (barring /b/ obviously).

How about bringing in people who can make 8chan grow as a community, like content makers, people who know what they're talking about, or people who understand the concept of anonymous and free speech?

Five months later? Six? It seems like a long time, or at least a significant Era—the kind of peak that rarely comes again. 8chan in late 2014 was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run …
but no explanation, no mix of archives or WebMs or screencaps can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the internetz. Whatever it meant …
History is hard to know, because of all the hired bullshit, but even without being sure of "history" it seems entirely reasonable to think that every now and then the energy of the outcasts of a whole generation comes to a head in a long fine flash, for reasons that nobody really understands at the time—and which never explain, in retrospect, what actually happened.
There was always madness in every direction, no matter where you looked. If not down a habbo raid, then in a /gg/ stream or up a /baphomet/ thread… You could raise the fire anywhere. There was a careless sense that whatever the fuck we were doing was right. No matter what happened.
And that, I think, was the handle –that sense of inevitable EPIC WIN over the forces of the Jews and SJWs. Our energy would simply prevail. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a hasty and reckless wave. We could not fail!…
So now, around 6 months later, you can go up on a thread in the archives and lurk back, and with the right kind of eyes you can see the high water mark –that post where our wave finally broke and rolled back.
I have noticed that through every *chan's history, there is a certain point in time. A kind of point they will talk about for years to come. Ours was in October. 4chan's was in '05 or '06. Now, we are almost on par with 4chan in quality terms. We reached the peak of quality. The wave broke. Now we have a steady regress.
