Here's a general question for anyone who's worked behind the scenes with 4chan for a while, could you share your advice for all the newly minted mods on the various 8chan boards, lessons you've learned, pitfalls to avoid and so on?

Also the internal management structure of 8chan is so different from 4chan's that nothing I could tell you as a former hotpocketer is relevant. Follow your instincts instead. Good luck!

You're probably going to get better advice from plebbit subreddit mods than anyone in 4chan's dysfunctional shithole.
They have a similar structure, so you're going to see similar mod bullshit happen here.
But basically, the owner of the board is in charge, and can decide who his janitors are for that board.
Plebbit has the problem where being a mod of a high-profile board was a status symbol, so you had a crowd of incestuous powermods running all the default boards. That shouldn't be as much of an issue on 8chan, but I'm sure we'll find a way to make our own dysfunctional drama.
