probably nothing legal as it would end up breaching copyrights. books in libraries are not copyright-free in terms of distribution. that's why you need accounts, even if its free to the user.

sucks :/

Most of these hard to find books are either antique or (n+1)th editions of collage textbooks. But it would be cool to digitalize books, but how would one do it at home?

I just had a idea. we should, on this board, start learning esperanto. This language is quite awesome (very easy, complete etc…) but no one is really talking it on the internet.

If we start to speak esperanto, people from all around the world will be able to join our project of /freedu/ , not just people from the western world.

So, I'm searching mate to start studying with me of esperanto. Also, feel free to share anything to help studying of esperanto.

I'll start with duolingo:

This is really interesting, I had no idea. Thanks!

Actually, that is one sound for all intents and purposes. Linguists typically classify affricates as a single segment

Linguist anon again. Other anon explained systems, I just wanna chime in about the difference between alphabets.

Japanese has a syllabic alphabet, meaning that characters (sorta, it's not purely syllabic) represent a syllable. か represents "ka." Languages like Cree and Inuktitut do this too. Japanese isn't purely syllabic because it has the character ん "n," but it only occurs at the end of other syllabic characters.

English on the other hand is a phonemic alphabet, meaning one letter (very vaguely) corresponds to one phoneme, aka one sound. Almost all European languages are like this, if not all of them. English is a bit awful about spelling though, so there's a lot of discrepancies. For instance, "-ng" usually represents the velar nasal sound /ŋ/ (you've probably heard that "the g is silent"), so 2 letters sometimes represent one sound. Except in the word "linguistics," you actually do pronounced the 'g' /liŋgwɪstɪks/

You also have "ph" pronounced as /f/, or "j" pronounced /dʒ/.

Spanish is probably a better example of a phonemic alphabet, since the letters correspond 1-to-1 usually

cool to know theres more than just me

Well English doesn't have those complete correspondences because the spelling indicates the etymology of the word.

It's to create distinctions, which is why English is so hard for non-English speaking people to learn.

Also, Japanese language is a combination of ideograms and a syllabary; Hangul is featural (that is, each jamo shows what the mouth is doing in order to produce the sound). They tried to make this a morphophonologic fit in 1948 with New Korean Orthography. Didn't work as well because ideology.

But christ, I can't even comprehend Mandarin, I am tone deaf.

what do comrades suggest to be some good ass philosophy books for newbies?

pic unre

If you want a really in depth explanation, only at 13th century medieval philosophy but includes areas most people know nothing about like Islamic philosophy.

What kind of philosophy? There are many different schools. Broadly speaking I suppose you could talk about the schools being:

1) Metaphysics (what is there)

2) Phenomenology (how do things look to us)

3) Ethics (how should things be)

3a) Political Philosophy (a sub-set of Ethics, in some respects: how should things be given that we organize ourselves politically)

Peter Arsinov's account of the revolution, he was an anarchist so bear in mind for possible bias although their accounts are probably more accurate than the crockshit the bolsheviks made up

Nothing exists without bias. Your best bet is to read the account from many sides, and bear who is writing it in mind when you search for the truth within. And bear in mind too, the "truth" you find still contains your own bias.

Why is it that everything the pro-bolshevik camp has to say on the subject is either completely false or so horrible esqued that it reads like a christian description of Satan himself?

Ive seen mahkno compared to a proto-nazi to an extreme nationalist anti-semite to a wild eyed bandit.

I know, I just thought I'd let people know since I myself am an anarchist

IMO probably because Makhno in reality proved that there was an alternative to the Bolshevik method

File: 1462626000162.jpg (129.9 KB, 1024x640, 8:5, Spiritual_Discipline-1024x….jpg)

Hello. I want to learn about discipline and how to go about building it. I'm having a lot of trouble with: creating a schedule (and sticking to it), not falling into bad habits, eating right, working out, meditating regularly, procrastination in general.

Please share books and videos and whatnot.

And before you suggest it, no I am not joining the fucking military or shit like that. I will make myself disciplined.

File: 1462626885264.jpg (36.04 KB, 640x360, 16:9, 18ixn52u2c5oxjpg.jpg)

My personal opinion is that the most important things to be are realistic, and long-termist.

Set yourself achievable goals which, once achieved, develop. Basically: start small, get bigger.

For example, with working out: do 10 sit-ups and 10 press-ups every morning when you wake up, until it stops feeling like a chore and starts just feeling like a normal and perfectly acceptable part of your routine, no different to taking a piss or brushing your teeth. Once you reach that, make it 20. When 20 is comfortable, make it 30, or add in some squats, or whatever.

Treat all your tasks like that, make them natural and part of your routine, rather than a chore. If you can, make them something you actually enjoy doing. That is the best way to mentally discipline yourself.

Thanks, that's really good. I'll try that.

Here's a book about time management that I liked. It's written for managers and wage-slaves, but most of it will be useful for the autodidact, too.

File: 1462638306106.pdf (1.53 MB, DeepWork.pdf)

Here's a book on "deep work", which argues that the biggest obstacle to getting things done (and done right) is getting distracted all the time, and the answer is developing a habit of uninterrupted focus on a single task. It has some pretty good ideas on how to achieve this.

i dont think there are any "socialist" perspective, as a marxist-leninist might considers himself a socialist but most other socialists wouldn't. i'd be interested in a book about that too though.

> The labor theory of value (LTV) is a heterodox economic theory of value that argues that the economic value of a good or service is determined by the total amount of socially necessary labor required to produce it, rather than by the use or pleasure its owner gets from it. At present this concept is usually associated with Marxian economics, although it is also used in the theories of earlier liberal economists such as Adam Smith and David Ricardo and later also in anarchist economics.

From Wikipedia article on LTV, also please read: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_theory_of_value#Karl_Marx

Here is a text on LTV, and Marx's actual theory of value, closely related.

We are 404Trojans.

We are are currently searching for excessively experienced Hacker, Crackers, and or Coders to help our cause.

We are a Hacktivist group that is closely related to Anonymous, and agree with their cause.

We are an anti-cyberbullying group, and we will not stop until the internet is a safe place for everyone again, even though this may be very difficult.

We highly disagree with Lizard Squad, so do not mistake us for these pathetic adolescents.

If you are not an experienced Hacker, Cracker, or Coder, it does not matter, we will take anyone, and train them if needed. In 404Trojans, we need experienced Crackers/Coders/Hackers, but we will take just about anyone, experienced or not.

If you are interested in being recruited, email me, at 404default@protonmail.com, or contact jason1337420 on KIK.

Not sure if this is just trolling, but in line with the board, would you care to share some resources or point out a path for people interested in hacking? Some introductory books on programming and hacking and the like

Try the /tech/ thread: >>32

you do realize that people have no reason to trust you because there is no guarantee that your version of bullying is the same as someone or someone else.

you might be some scary SJW's who just raid every thread and harrass people with opinions that are not considered okay.

will you defend monsanto? will you accuse everyone who posts comments saying they hate monsanto as bullies?

The whole channel of this guy, about enconomics: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6sYdEuwtb1MVRrt8d9mOZg

about social point of view of the french society:

The economic effects of immigration are negative in most of these places.

Except of course for the wealthy that gain from the increased competition for labor so they can lower wages and the immigrants themselves.

It's devastating for the working class.

>when racists get racist

Leave the meaningless buzzwords on tumblr and facebook.

Those immigrants aren't going to care how not racist you are if you become a minority in your city.

Are you implying that immigrants can't also be racist?

Maybe a bit different, but I really enjoyed this channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/WSWDC

These guys have lecture series on a couple of Wagner's operas. You don't need any knowledge of musicology or anything, they explain the important concepts as they go. So it's great for people who casually enjoy classical music and want to get some in-depth information.

So in an effort to bring semi-structured education to the regulars of /leftypol/, I've been running a reading group for the last few weeks.

This thread will be dedicated to archiving the annotated pdfs and threads that come out of the group activities. I hope that at some point the added insights that they include will prove useful to someone (or at least bring about a good laugh).

Here's the stuff from Week 0. The details of how this was going to work were still being worked out, so there wasn't much participation at that point.

File: 1460420900727.pdf (7.5 MB, (LeftypolReads)- Wolff- Co….pdf)

Some of the annotations won't be visible until the file in question is downloaded apparently.

Looking for interesting reads about north Korea.

Rare PDF's that give unique insight into north Korean culture and ways of life inside the hermit kingdom.

I want stuff, in particular, from North Korea that has leaked out one way or another. Things that you aren't going to find on their webpage and just interesting readings from the DPRK in general.

"The Propaganda Game" by Alvo Longoria provides a pretty nuanced view of the DPRK. It's available on Netflix or your local torrenting service.

Yeah this one is great, I wouldn't go as far as him to say DPRK operates on a such a constructivist perspective - but it's appears to be the best analysis of it's self-perception (or at least how they desire their own people to think) available.

Does any one have a link or download for this movie that is translated or has subtitles?

I've been looking for this everywhere
