As I'm sure most of you are already aware, if you're looking for a more in-depth course, the Khan Academy offers free education in many subjects, at many levels.

https://www.khanacademy.org/

Check it out if you haven't already, and are willing to invest time into a more structured learning program.

Similar site
https://www.edx.org/
Contains various courses on various subjects, usually has a schedule for the course (left up to the course admins)

I've taken the MITx and Harvard x CS courses and they were pretty nice.

JStor is a catalog of academic journal articles. You can register for a free account and that gives you (limited) access to the database.

The free account doesn't give you anything worthwhile, IIRC.

It's not hard to get JSTOR articles if you know specifically which one and you are willing to ask on a place like /lit/ for someone to upload it for you. I've done it many times for people before.

It might be a good idea to have a JSTOR thread here, even. Not sure how that would be vetted. But maybe if the board got popular some nice undergrads would be willing to do the rounds once a day or so.

I think they've added some new features recently so that a free account gets you more access than it used to.

There's also coursera:
https://www.coursera.org/

Though I don't like how these are only accessible during the course, they have some really good material.

http://uopeople.edu/ is a tuition-free online open university that offers actual degree courses.

They have some admission requirements: http://uopeople.edu/groups/tuition-free-online-learning?d=167619&s=203463&a=167619

Check it out anyone interested!

Oh my! This looks really good, I dropped out of a BS for Software Development due to lack of funds but this means I could get a degree for very low cost (exam fees). Thanks anon!

What I'm doing isn't free, but it comes out to paying $170 twice a year (with a Pell grant for not having any income and being too old to be my parents' dependent) for a Software Development BS that is both regionally and nationally accredited at Western Governor's University.

>>69 seems pretty cool, but apparently it isn't regionally accredited, which is the big deal for accreditation. National accreditation requirements are lower.

My program is self-paced though, so since I'm a basement-dweller, I'm going to finish after ~18 months.

And similarly http://academicearth.org/ is essentially a database of free online courses offered by Universities and other accredited institutions, as well as other content.

this is kind of designed for taking courses to put on a CV for a job, but still good to check out:

edx these days seems to be the most benign.

Coursera just has all the makings of a for profit sham just waiting to happen.
